As the winds begin to howl and the skies darken on the East Coast, it’s that time of year again when Tornado Watches become a reality. Residents of North Carolina and neighboring states should take these alerts seriously. The National Weather Service recently issued a Tornado Watch for several counties, indicating that conditions are favorable for tornado formation. But how do you prepare and where do you go when those tornado warnings hit? The North Carolina Emergency Management recommends taking shelter in basements or dedicated storm shelters whenever possible. Remember folks: closets and laundry rooms are not the safest places unless they come with built-in airbags!

With the rising intensity of coastal storms, specifically Hurricane Helene, folks in the Grand Strand area, especially in Myrtle Beach, have been on tornado alert. Along with high winds and heavy rain, these conditions have resulted in power outages, leaving many scrambling to find flashlights and enough wine to last through the storm.
