North Texas residents, be prepared to sizzle! The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for Denton County and surrounding areas, effective from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday. This heat wave brings dangerously hot conditions that could have us frying like an egg on a sidewalk.

Garland County and much of the state are sweltering under the same warning. Weather reports indicate sunny, dry conditions with temperatures surging to record highs as an upper-level ridge strengthens overhead. The blistering heat is expected to persist into the weekend, extending the misery for all Texans looking for ways to stay cool.

Dallas isn't exempt from this scorching forecast. The FOX 4 Weather team has alerted residents that North Texas will face these brutal temperatures starting Friday afternoon. The tally for 100° days has already hit 16, thanks to Thursday's high of 101° at DFW, and more scorchers are on the way. The heat index, which combines air temperature and humidity, is predicted to range between a searing 110 to 112 degrees, making outdoor activities riskier than petting a cactus.

Nearby areas including Fort Worth, Denton, McKinney, Gainesville, Sherman, and Denison are in for the heatwave ride too. Despite this being the first excessive heat warning of the year for some regions, Mother Nature is turning up the heat dial to full blast.
