Thursday was a shaky day for both California and Taiwan. A 3.9-magnitude earthquake rattled residents in Lake Elsinore, Southern California, early in the morning. People across Riverside County felt the tremors that also ushered in a 3.0-magnitude aftershock just a minute later. This quake is part of a series of recent ground-shakers that have kept SoCal on its toes. Many homeowners are now double-checking their earthquake kits and reinforcing their properties.

As if Mother Nature just couldn't get enough, the east coast of Taiwan experienced a preliminary 6.1-magnitude earthquake. This major quake disrupted travel for morning commuters in Taipei, extending its reach to parts of mainland China and Japan. Thankfully, there were no immediate reports of damage, but the quake served as a jarring wake-up call for the region.

Interestingly, people in North San Diego County also felt the Lake Elsinore earthquake, showing just how far-reaching a 3.9-magnitude quake can be. It was reported at 9:39 a.m. and originated about 3.7 miles from the city, reverberating through a region that has seen its fair share of seismic activity lately.

Meanwhile, back in the United States, Utah is on high alert. With the likelihood of a significant earthquake termed the “Big One,” the state has been making extensive preparations.
