Hold onto your umbrellas! Debby's bringing flash flood warnings to Upstate NY, Vermont, and Ohio. 🌧️ #FloodWarning #StaySafe

Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! The remnants of Tropical Depression Debby are making quite the splash across the Northeast. Upstate New York finds itself under several flash flood warnings as Debby unleashes her watery wrath. It's a soggy morning, indeed, with up to an inch of rain already reported in areas like Chemung, Steuben, and Schuyler by 9:30 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. And forget about driving across flooded roads—the weather service warns against it. Safety first!

Meanwhile, over in Vermont, Debby’s leftover rain showers have prompted flood warnings as well. Forecasters predict that these downpours could bring floods and power outages this afternoon and evening. Flash flood warnings are also in effect for communities across Northeast Ohio. Coming right after severe storms earlier this week, more bad weather is anything but ideal. Debby’s outer bands made their soggy presence known as early as 7:52 a.m., dumping up to 1.5 inches of rain according to Doppler radar reports.

The flood drama doesn't end there. Southwestern Broome County was hit by heavy rainfall early this morning, with central areas like Summit County in Ohio also finding themselves under flash flood warnings until 01:15 EDT on August 9th. The rain gauge has been busy, recording up to 4.5 inches of rain in some areas as of 9:15 p.m. Thursday evening. Disruptions are likely, so stay tuned for updates and, above all, stay safe!

New York is bracing for even more drenching as the heaviest rain is expected to pour between mid-morning and noon today. What a way to start the day, right? Flood warnings from Debby have folks on high alert, and live updates continue to track her progress. It’s definitely a good time to reconsider those outdoor plans.

Did you know that floods are one of the most common natural disasters in the United States? They can cause significant damage to homes, roads, and even bridges, making them incredibly dangerous and costly. On the flip side, rainwater plays a vital role in replenishing local ecosystems and groundwater reserves.

And here's a wild weather fact: the highest amount of rainfall ever recorded in the U.S. in a 24-hour period occurred in Alvin, Texas in 1979, during Tropical Storm Claudette. A whopping 43 inches of rain fell, setting a national record. Talk about a downpour!
