9 Soldiers Killed After Army Helicopters Collide Over Kentucky (The New York Times)

Two Black Hawk helicopters from the 101st Airborne Division collided on Wednesday night near Fort Campbell. The Army said it did not yet know a cause.

John Lubas said during a news conference at Fort Campbell on Thursday that the Army did not yet know what had caused the collision, and that there were no radio signals calling for help before it occurred. He declined to provide details about any of the soldiers until their families had been notified. The helicopters were equipped with flight recorders that officials hoped would be able to help shed light into what happened, he said. The two HH-60 Black Hawk assault helicopters crashed into each other at about 10 p.m. Andy Beshear of Kentucky said during the news conference that it was a tragic day for Kentucky and for Fort Campbell.
