He enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career in 2022, but he lost 15 pounds as he was weakened by a virus that hit him during the regular season’s final week. Fried also missed three weeks after straining his right hamstring during his third start of the 2021 season. Fried exited the season-opening win at Nationals Park after he strained his left hamstring while racing to cover first base in the bottom of the fourth inning. The lefty hopes to avoid missing any time, but his manager is far less confident about the southpaw making his next scheduled start on Wednesday in St. Fried hopes he is just dealing with a minor tweak that might improve within the next couple of days. He threw one warmup pitch and then walked without a noticeable limp toward the clubhouse. He stands as one of the game’s top starters, and he is the ace of a legit World Series contender.

The Atlanta Braves have signed shortstop Orlando Arcia to a contract extension, keeping him in Atlanta for another three seasons.

As talented as Grissom may be, he doesn’t have a lot of experience at shortstop in the major leagues, or elsewhere frankly. The organization remains very high on Grissom despite the demotion. Instead, that went to stable veteran Orlando Arcia, who was grateful for the opportunity. If anything, he’s a moderately-priced backup who wanted some stability in his life. Arcia isn’t receiving starting shortstop money, as noted in Robert Murray’s tweet above. Grissom hit well during spring training, but evidently didn’t show enough to receive the starting nod.

The content on this page is for informational purposes only. We may be compensated for the links provided on this page. In 2022, he ranked in the fourth percentile in Average Exit Velocity, the seventh percentile in Hard Hit Rate and the first percentile in xBA. That is at least seven innings of work the Nats need to do against a lefty. Patrick Corbin was one of the worst pitchers in baseball last season, so the line for this is a bit steep. Corbin is a mess and until he proves otherwise, bettors should look to fade him at every chance possible. Last season, he finished in the 92nd percentile in Average Exit Velocity and 90th percentile in Hard Hit Percentage. From August 1, 2022 and on, the Nationals held an 87 wRC+, ranking 25th against left-handed pitching. From the time Juan Soto was traded last season through the end of the regular season, the Nationals walked just 5.7% of the time against left-handed pitchers.
