Even with Evans and Edmunds joining the mix for 2023, the team still has options to bring in more talent throughout the rest of the 2023 free agency and in the NFL Draft, where the team has two first-round picks at No. "My older brother played for the Saints and the Steelers, I played in Pittsburgh and now here, and Tremaine was in Buffalo and now he's in Chicago. You have to be able to cover in the post and run and do all those things in space. "You have to be in the box and be physical and support the run. All three sons – Trey (Steelers), Terrell (Pittsburgh and now Philadelphia), and Tremaine (Buffalo and now Chicago) – have been in the NFL. With C.J. Gardner-Johnson out of the picture, the Eagles added another safety Friday. By Reuben Frank.

Another brother, Trey Edmunds, spent the 2017 through 2021 seasons with the Saints and Steelers as a running back and special teamer. Edmunds’ father, Ferrell Edmunds, was the Dolphins’ 3rd-round pick in 1988 and spent seven years with the Dolphins and Seahawks as a tight end. K’Von Wallace, the Eagles’ 4th-round pick in 2020, is also still on the roster. The Eagles are in the process of rebuilding the safety position after losing both 2022 starters to free agency. He was selected one pick after running back Rashaad Penny, who also signed with the Eagles last week. It was the second-highest grade of his five NFL seasons.

Edmunds was the No. 28 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he spent the first five seasons of his career.

We expect the cost to be relatively minimal — he lingered on the market for over a month last offseason before re-signing with the Steelers for $2.5 million — and Edmunds offers theoretical upside given his youth. Of course, there’s a long time between now and the real Week 1, so Edmunds fills an important role in giving the team cover as a patchwork player at a position of significant need. But he was one of the safeties remaining on the market, giving the Eagles needed experience at the biggest hole on the roster. - Edmunds was the No. Here’s what you need to know:

Eagles sign safety Terrell Edmunds to replace C.J. Gardner-Johnson (The Philadelphia Inquirer)

Edmunds, 26, is a former first-round pick who spent the past five seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Edmunds viewed the opportunity to team up with the Eagles secondary, which ranked No. While he lacked the interceptions (zero) of Gardner-Johnson (six), Edmunds graded out similarly to his predecessor, according to Pro Football Focus. And then you’ve got the d-line and the culture from the team in general. A strong safety by trade, Edmunds is often used in the box as a hybrid linebacker and also has experience playing in the slot. You’ve got Slay on one side, Bradberry on the other side. He is the second safety signed this offseason by the Eagles after they lost both starters in Gardner-Johnson and Marcus Epps (Las Vegas Raiders). “It wasn’t our best day being with the Steelers. So wherever they need me to go, I’m going to go out there and give 110 percent. Other safeties on the roster include second-year Reed Blankenship, K’Von Wallace, and Andre Chachere. Edmunds has been extremely durable throughout his career, missing just three games, with two of those coming last season due to a concussion. “Now I’m bought in, I’m ready to work, come here and give it everything I’ve got.” Last season, Edmunds logged 70 tackles, two sacks, and five passes defended in 15 games for Pittsburgh.

Grading the move: Eagles sign ex-Steeler Terrell Edmunds, add ... (The Athletic)

Philadelphia addressed its most significant short-term roster need with the addition of Edmunds.

Grade (on a scale of famous brothers): After Gardner-Johnson’s departure, the Eagles were left with a glaring hole at safety. Edmunds is experienced, young and durable (having only missed three games in five seasons), which is about as good as anyone could have hoped for from a player expected to start and signed this late in free agency. [Minkah Fitzpatrick](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/minkah-fitzpatrick-hV4BsJZcMWRWu18m/) excelled in Pittsburgh. Assuming the price is similarly reasonable, Edmunds makes a lot of sense for the Eagles considering the need at the position. [NFL](https://theathletic.com/nfl/) for more than a decade. Expectations should be kept in check considering Edmunds lingered on the free-agent market for over a month last offseason before he returned to the Steelers on a one-year, $2.5 million deal. The difference here is that Jason signed a lucrative, multiyear contract extension (and subsequent big deals). You need to consider the reality that Edmunds is signing a one-year deal, at this point in free agency, one year after he re-signed with the Steelers on a one-year contract more than a month into free agency. Grade (on a scale of famous brothers): Jason McCourty. Edmunds should at least offer the Eagles replacement-level play at safety and has the potential to provide more. He’s a 2018 first-round pick (even if he was considered overdrafted at the time) who has started 75 games for a formidable defense, has been fairly durable in his career and is only 26 years old. Price is often a factor, and there’s still time for Philadelphia to continue adding to the position.

The Eagles addressed the safety position once again, signing former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Terrell Edmunds.

The Eagles also have K’Von Wallace and Andre Chachere on the roster. Brown could be a Day 2 pick because he can play man coverage well, occupy his zone, and not allow receivers to get past him. Two players who would fit the Eagles defense include Alabama’s Brian Branch and Penn State’s Ji’Ayir Brown. Edmunds has lined up at free safety and has played closer to the line of scrimmage, positioning himself to go against slot receivers and tight ends, which Gardner-Johnson did a lot last season for the Eagles. A league source confirmed the agreement with NJ Advance Media.

Why new Eagles S Terrell Edmunds is so excited to be in Philly (NBC Sports)

The Steelers drafted Edmunds in the first round out of Virginia Tech back in 2018 and he spent the first five seasons of his career in Pittsburgh, playing in 79 ...

There’s some obvious pressure that comes with being a first-round pick and Edmunds experienced that after the Steelers took him 28th overall in 2018. It wasn’t just ‘I’m your teammate and then I go home.’ Those guys out there at the softball game, even though they tried to stack their team, just had a good time out there, playing together. Edmunds came away impressed with the roster and the atmosphere at the Linc. “And you could tell that they were competitive. That experience gave Edmunds a chance to spend time with his new teammates long before he knew he’d end up as an Eagle. With the Eagles, Edmunds is very likely going to be a starting safety after both Marcus Epps and C.J. “Someone who’s going to go out there and give everything I got in whatever position the coach puts me in. Wherever they need me to go, I’m going to go out and give 110 percent. “It started off as football and then it got to knowing the real person,” Edmunds said on a videoconference call Friday afternoon. The top incumbent safeties were Reed Blankenship and K’Von Wallace. He’s never really lived up to that draft status but Edmunds has been a productive player in his career. I think that’s something that really drove me to come here.”

Projecting the Eagles' starting defense after Terrell Edmunds agreed ... (Eagles Wire)

We're taking an updated look at the Philadelphia Eagles starting defense after Howie Roseman signed Terrell Edmunds to a one-year deal.

With Marcus Epps departing to the Raiders and C.J. Gardner-Johnson now with the Lions, Blankenship has all the looks of a starter in 2023, ahead of Justin Evans. Maddox returns in the slot and is one of the best in the league. Dean played with an edge and showed potential during the preseason, and he’ll be a likely starter in 2023 unless Sean Desai flips Nicholas Morrow to the middle and employs Dean on the outside. Williams was a part of the Eagles’ deep rotation of tackles and defensive ends, improving from his rookie season. The former Georgia All-American saw action in 13 games and made five starts during a promising rookie season.
