Jared Freid has nothing against the Zags, but the veteran comic was rooting against the perennial March Madness darlings for personal reasons last weekend.
Expect Freid to riff about his family “I like to talk about my parents,” Freid said. “And that’s not just to have more material.” “I would love to have children,” Freid said. “I go and visit with them and I like it. “I talk about the dating stuff,” Freid said. “It’s difficult, especially when people lie,” Freid said.
Julian Strawther hit a 3-pointer with 6 seconds left, lifting Gonzaga to a wild 79-76 NCAA tournament win over UCLA in the Sweet 16.
"This is my city," he screamed to the crowd in the postgame celebration. "It was a clean look," he said. It felt like a movie, you know?" "Literally, when you're a kid, you dream of making a shot like that. And yeah, Morrison was in Las Vegas on Thursday, calling the game on the radio. Strawther asked if he could shoot the ball if it came to him. "I'm not speechless too much, and I'm pretty speechless after that. It really felt like a movie." Especially on the 17-year anniversary to the day of the infamous Adam Morrison-inconsolable-on-the-court Sweet 16 game in Oakland, California, where the Bruins scored the final 11 points to break Gonzaga's hearts. And Gonzaga, which trailed at halftime 46-33 only to take a 10-point lead (72-62) with 2:30 to play, found itself behind 76-75 with 12 seconds to play. 3-seeded Bulldogs a white-knuckle [79-76 victory](/mens-college-basketball/boxscore/_/gameId/401522186) over No. 4 [UConn](/mens-college-basketball/team/_/id/41/uconn-huskies).

When the Gonzaga Bulldogs and UCLA Bruins play in the NCAA Tournament, it is going to be a ridiculous game. These teams refuse to have a normal 40 minutes ...
Timme finally got the help he was looking for as Strawther woke up from his first half slumber with 14 of his 16 points coming in the second half. Of course, because things can never be simple, things also came apart in the final two minutes after Gonzaga built a 10-point lead with the finish line in sight. The level he played at during the first nine minutes of the second half (and of course the entire game, missed free throws at the end of the game are forgiven now) when it looked like the Bruins were poised to deliver a knockout punch at any moment is the stuff that legends are made of. With Timme the only one producing and no one playing defense at the other end, things looked quite grisly for Gonzaga at the break with a 13-point deficit to overcome despite shooting 54% from the field. Somehow, despite the inauspicious beginning to the restart, the Zags found a way to turn things around. In an unexpected plot twist, both teams came out firing to start the game with the tempo far closer to Gonzaga’s liking than UCLA’s.
The Gonzaga Bulldogs and UCLA Bruins already had a deep and storied rivalry in the men's NCAA tournament coming into their Sweet 16 matchup in the 2023 ...
Drew Timme was the star for Gonzaga most of the night, finishing with 36 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. In 2021, the score was tied, and the clock was running out. Now Gonzaga is one win away from its third Final Four in the last five men’s NCAA tournaments. That wasn’t the one he chose. Gonzaga got its revenge in the 2021 Final Four with an even more memorable moment: Jalen Suggs’ near halfcourt buzzer-beater to put the then undefeated Zags into the national title game. The first lasting image of Zags basketball was Adam Morrison

It’s crazy,” Gonzaga’s Drew Timme said of Strawther's game-winner. The Pac-12 player of the year scored on a three-point play and a layup to cut it 74-71 with 45 seconds left. “Those are literally the moments you dream of. [Tarek Fattal](https://www.whittierdailynews.com/author/tarek-fattal/) “We should have been tighter on Strawther,” UCLA coach Mick Cronin said of the go-ahead 3-pointer. The play for Strawther was similar to how Villanova won the national championship in 2016. That’s what we call it,” Gonzaga coach Mark Few said.

- We’ve talked about the need for Gonzaga to go on one or two defensive runs per game if they’re not gonna be one of the top defensive teams in the country (the first half very much confirmed that is not a possibility), and they absolutely pulled off the defensive run in the middle of the second half. Things turned around for Gonzaga when Sallis and Smith checked in and it would have been coaching malpractice not to roll with them for the rest of the game notwithstanding the last minute situational substitutions. - It will be easy to miss, but Hunter Sallis put together a very impactful game when Gonzaga really needed solutions in the backcourt off the bench. - You don’t see too many games with a rebounding disparity as large as the one between these teams (50-26) and that results in such a tight game. The guards repeatedly failed to keep Tyger Campbell bottled up and in front of them and the team as a whole played as if they had never seen a ball screen before. To be completely clear, I am not at all complaining about Timme going nuclear, especially when it looked like no one was ready to step up to be the secondary scorer, but it felt like that’s what happened in this one.

The No. 3 Gonzaga Bulldogs and the No. 4 Connecticut Huskies will face off in the Elite Eight for a chance to advance to the Final Four.
As much of a question it is for the Zags on how they stop Sanogo, the same can be said for how they stop Timme. In a season featuring plenty of big games of the year, this is once against the biggest game of the year. Against a Gonzaga team that has struggled with defensive communication throughout the entire system, this is a worrisome team to go up against. The Huskies own a No. There have been a couple of dumb turnovers that launched my consciousness into the sun, but looking past those, the transfer has played some critical basketball in the wins over TCU and UCLA. It will be hard for the Zags to score because the Huskies have the personnel to matchup. The main difference between the Huskies and the Zags? Much of that starts with the play of junior big man Adama Sanogo, who is the Huskies leading scorer at 17.3 points and has been even more of a wrecking ball this tournament. Newton, the senior point guard, has actually been one of the few not shining oh-so-brightly spots for the Huskies this tournament, particularly his last two games in which he finished with four turnovers a piece. Gonzaga overcame a 13-point deficit and absolutely silenced the UCLA offense in the second half of their Sweet 16 matchup. 3 Gonzaga Bulldogs and the No. The No.

Owens played 1 minute in 100-71 loss to Ray Allen and the Huskies. “But he did play and that’s what makes him such a great athlete. “Sometimes it’s disappointing when you’re not where you wanted to be, but you make the best of the moments you have and the opportunities you have,” Owens said. “I’m going to be honest, I cried every game during my redshirt season,” Smith said during a recent guest appearance on The Spokesman-Review’s Take 22 podcast with GU teammate Anton Watson. “When you go out there, you know you put the work in and be confident in every shot, every moment. Last year he played well for us at Chattanooga and he wanted to see what he could do at another level. An audacious NFL receiver known for his self-belief and swagger, Owens has a story similar to Smith’s. On more than one occasion, television cameras panned to the cluster of Gonzaga fans Owens was sitting with Thursday evening. Owens made good on a promise to Smith that he’d attend a Gonzaga game this season. He’s going to be a good kid. Owens, of all people, was able to appreciate the confidence and conviction.
