The National Weather Service office in Los Angeles [said in a bulletin](https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=lox&issuedby=LOX&product=PNS) that it dispatched crews to survey the damage in both Montebello and Carpinteria to determine whether tornadoes touched down and assign damage ratings. Los Angeles area hit by rare tornado (CNN)

At least one person was injured after a rare tornado hit a city just southeast of Los Angeles Wednesday, local officials said.

An atmospheric river is like a fire hose that carries saturated air from the tropics to higher latitudes, dumping relentless rain or snow. The service rated it as an EF-0, with winds of 75 mph. The video zooms in on a mass of dark gray clouds consuming the sky and tapering down toward land. They are commonly referred to as landspouts (similar to a waterspout, but over land). On Tuesday evening, a weak tornado hit a mobile home park in Carpinteria โ€“ a seaside city northwest of Los Angeles, the weather service confirmed Wednesday. Shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday, an EF-1 tornado was registered in a town in Toulumne County, as confirmed by the National Weather Service (NWS), in Sacramento.
