Emma Raducanu and Bianca Andreescu will clash in one of the most highly anticipated opening-round matches at the 2023 Miami Open.

[Amanda Anisimova](https://www.sportskeeda.com/player/amanda-anisimova) will be up against compatriot Madison Brengle in the first round of the Miami Open. Both players were eliminated in the first round of the BNP Paribas Open. They were supposed to meet in the second round of the 2015 Hobart International but Kanepi withdrew from the tournament. It will be the first meeting between the two. Stephens is currently ranked 47th in the world and has a 4-6 win/loss record this season. This will be the second meeting between the pair, with Andreescu winning 6-2, 2-1 in their previous encounter at last year's Italian Open.

It remains to be seen if Raducanu can do better in Miami this year. Last year, Raducanu didn't manage to record her first win in Miami. In the desert, Raducanu clinched a few notable wins before she fell short to Swiatek. In Miami, Raducanu is set to compete for the second time. Now, Raducanu is set to compete in Miami after the tournament organizers handed her a main draw wildcard. Now it’s just about consistent work to physically get to where I want to be.

Iga Swiatek, of Poland, returns a shot to Elena Rybakina, of Kazakhstan, during a semifinal match at the BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament Friday, ...

A likely showdown with Sabalenka in the semifinals could be a stiff test, but if you’re getting +2200 odds on a player who has a good path to being one of the four final players in the Miami Open, it’s an enticing proposition. Iga Swiatek (+175) is the easy bet since she’s clearly the favorite at the Miami Open, but she also admitted that she wasn’t playing at 100% during Indian Wells because of a rib injury. In her one chance to win a title, she was defeated in a straight-sets beatdown by Swiatek in the Doha final, but she has a good draw and finds herself on Swiatek’s side of the bracket, so if the Pole isn’t healthy, a trip to the finals could be in the cards. [was just recently stunned by Elena Rybakina in the semi-finals of Indian Wells](https://www.eurosport.com/tennis/wta-indian-wells/2023/indian-wells-elena-rybakina-beats-iga-swiatek-will-meet-aryna-sabalenka-in-final-after-belarusian-be_sto9515226/story.shtml), so there will be no Sunshine Double this year. Last year, Poland’s Iga Swiatek defeated Naomi Osaka 6-4, 6-0 to win her third consecutive WTA 1000 of the season and extend her win streak to 17 matches. Along with the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, the Miami Open is a joint ATP/WTA tournament where the men’s and women’s tournaments will be going on at the same time.

Rybakina; Sabalenka d. Semifinals: Pegula d. Sabalenka will start against either Shelby Rogers or Sloane Stephens, but her toughest competition could come from Barbora Krejcikova in the fourth round. She has a title this season; does she have a deep run at a 1000 in her, too? Miami is where things began to go south for her in 2022. Speaking of Sakkari, was her semifinal run in Indian Wells a sign that she has stabilized? She’s in Gauff’s half of this section, and is due to make some noise. Like Jabeur, her presumed breakout season has yet to materialize (missed Indian Wells with injury). For Coco Gauff, it’s probably a relief not to be anywhere near either Swiatek or Aryna Sabalenka in the draw; she has lost love sets to both recently, and she lost badly to Swiatek in Miami a year ago. Hopefully Parks, an American up-and-comer and already a champion in Lyon, can improve on her performance in Indian Wells, where she lost 6-1, 6-1 in the first round to Anna Kalinskaya. She’ll start against either Claire Liu or Katerina Siniakova, and the first seed she could face is Martina Trevisan. Miami, USA

7:00 pm Since Wolf reached the Dallas semifinals last month, he's posted a 1-3 record and, like Bublik, should be very hungry for Hard Rock success. The big-serving Bublik is 1-10 in all other Tour-level tournaments, including opening-round exits in Auckland, Australian Open, Rotterdam, Montpellier and Indian Wells. French fans were already out in force watching Benoit Paire's qualifying match on Monday and this all-French affair figures to be a fan-friendly clash. As expected, Monfils showed signs of rust playing his first match in nearly seven months, he won four games against Jordan Thompson in Indian Wells. Humbert showed it outlasting Monfils in five sets in their only meeting at the 2019 Wimbledon. Top seeds Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz look to maintain their number one rankings with some stellar tennis in the heat of the 2023 Miami Open.

Sinner has played solidly this season, winning a title and losing only to Alcaraz in the semis of Indian Wells. [American upstart Ben Shelton](https://tennisconnected.com/home/2023/03/13/ben-shelton-everything-everywhere-all-at-once/) in the 3rd round, which would be a clash of monster servers. [Alcaraz needs to defend his Miami Open title](https://www.atptour.com/en/news/alcaraz-djokovic-battle-for-no-1-miami-2023-projection) in order to stay number one in the world. The other half of the 2023 Miami Open women’s draw is less fraught. Big Foe has a shot to come through this quarter to take advantage of a subpar Tsitsipas. (You’ll notice he made the finals.) I’ll be interested to see if the Miami courts are to Meddy’s liking. She’s seeded 7 in this tournament, but the top seed in her quarter is Ons Jabeur, who’s been battling injuries. The current world #2 trails only Caroline Garcia in most of the major serving categories, including percentage of service games won at 86%. Americans Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff bookend the adjacent quarter with Victoria Azarenka in the middle. She’ll be seeking the back half of the Sunshine Slam, and fatigue could be a factor. Having lost to Elena in their two previous meetings this year, they could meet as early as the quarterfinals. Iga got unlucky with this 2023 Miami Open draw: She drew the hot-handed Rybakina in her section.

The back end of the sunshine double kicks off at the Miami Open this week. Find out who is favored to win the men's and women's tournaments.

[Caroline Garcia](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/caroline-garcia-2663) - Garcia has lost 7-5 in the third in each of her last two tournaments, falling to [Donna Vekic](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/donna-vekic-3978) in the Monterrey Open final and [Sorana Cirstea](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/sorana-cirstea-2381) in the Round of 16 at Indian Wells. [Donna Vekic](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/donna-vekic-3978) - Vekic was a letdown as a potential sleeper in Indian Wells, as her powerful game didn't translate well to those slower hard courts and she immediately crashed out against [Lesia Tsurenko](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/lesia-tsurenko-3931), but perhaps she'll fare better in Miami. [Elena Rybakina](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/elena-rybakina-4197) knocked her out at both the Australian Open and Indian Wells, but Swiatek could get a shot at revenge in the quarterfinals here. [Iga Swiatek](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/iga-swiatek-4237) - Swiatek is the defending Miami Open champion, and while she failed to win the title at the three biggest hard-court tournaments so far in 2023 (Australian Open, Dubai and Indian Wells), the world No. 7 seed [Holger Rune](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/holger-rune-4455). 3 seed [Casper Ruud](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/casper-ruud-1624) in the Round of 16. [Carlos Alcaraz](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/carlos-alcaraz-4412) - Alcaraz just erased any doubts that he's the player to beat in any tournament that doesn't include Djokovic. Alcaraz showed the size of the gap between himself and the field with a 6-3, 6-2 drubbing of [Daniil Medvedev](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/daniil-medvedev-1227) in the final, ending Medvedev's 19-match winning streak. ATP Masters 1000 Miami Open: Betting odds, picks, how to watch ... (amNY)

Carlos Alcaraz, of Spain, returns a shot against Jannik Sinner, of Italy, during a semifinal match at the BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament Saturday, ...

He will likely face Auger-Aliassime in the fourth round, but I think that Tiafoe has the game to beat the Canadian on these courts, and that would set up a semi-final showdown against either Stefanos Tsitsipas or perhaps Karen Khachanov. Tiafoe is 14-4 to start 2023 and has already won an ATP tournament when he took down the United Cup in Australia prior to the Australian Open. If you can find odds on him to win his quarter of the Miami Open, I would also definitely take a shot on those. Zverev started out the year slowly, perhaps still struggling with his ankle injury, but he has been in good form of late, going 5-2 in his last two tournaments with his losses coming to 6th-ranked Andrey Rublev and Medvedev. In this article, we’ll delve into the list of favorites, players to watch, and dark horses to win the second Masters 1000 tournament of the year. Elsewhere, seventh-seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, who is currently at a career-high 6th in the ATP Rankings, could play Indian Wells semi-finalist Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round as Tiafoe looks to break into the top ten.

Miami Open Men's Preview: Has the Carlos Alcaraz part of the ... (Tennis Magazine)

We explore the Spaniard's chances of completing the Sunshine Double, and the players with the best chance of stopping his title defense.

At the moment, though, it has run out of gas. Over the second half of 2022, the Thiem revival began to pick up a head of steam. Felix Auger-Aliassime and Frances Tiafoe are the top names in the opposite half from Tsitsipas. At the top of this post I mentioned that Djokovic and Medvedev have each had hot streaks this season, and Alcaraz looks poised to start one of his own. The winner gets Rublev. The American will start against Alexander Bublik. On paper, Ruud looks safe, until a possible fourth-round meeting with Alexander Zverev; the German played like his old set in Dubai and Indian Wells, and has been to the final in Miami before. So far in 2023 he’s gone out early in Australia, Acapulco, and Indian Wells. While he aggravated a leg injury last month, he didn’t appear to have any physical trouble this past week, and his final-round win over Medvedev hardly required a Herculean effort. We’ve had a Daniil Medvedev part of the season. We’ve had a Novak Djokovic part of the season. Miami, USA

Maxime Cressy could face the Spaniard in the third round, but the 30th-seeded American will first have to defeat Andy Murray or Dusan Lajovic in his opening match. In the same section of the draw, Americans Sloane Stephens and Shelby Rogers will square off for the right to face Australian Open champion and Indian Wells finalist Aryna Sabalenka in the second round. Ninth seed Taylor Fritz leads the American charge in the men's singles draw. Marino dominates Putintseva at Miami Open - Tennis Canada (tenniscanada.com)

Rebecca Marino put on a clinic as she powered into round two of the Miami Open with a win over Yulia Putintseva in straight sets.

After surviving a pair of break points in the third game, errors continued to fly off of Putintseva’s racket and she double-faulted to surrender a love break and go down 4-1. She lost just 15 points on serve in the match and never faced a break point. The Czech broke for her first lead of the match at 5-3, only for Sebov to break back. Sebov stretched the run to four breaks when she took the opening game of the third set before finally getting a hold to take a 2-0 lead. The Canadian won 56 per cent of the Czech’s second serve points and 52 per cent of her total points on return. However, a pattern began to emerge in the second set of one player breaking and the other immediately responding.
