He had a monster closing kick in which he shot the second-best round of the day on Sunday and began leaderboard creeping a bit with the leaders on the front nine. Fitz has been struggling with some neck injuries over the first few months of 2023, and doesn't have a top 10 since finishing T7 at the Tournament of Champions in January. He made a 9 on his third hole of the golf tournament, went out in 42 and never recovered. Burns finished in the top 15 in driving this week and appears to be back on track. Trouble struck in the form of a wayward tee shot on the 16th, and while he managed to save bogey, the damage was already down. Burns said he's been trying to dial in his driver following a failure in regulation testing at Riv — "that was a tough couple weeks, trying to figure out something I like" — and it seems like he finally did. Fleetwood is obviously a really good golfer, and he was terrific all week, but until he's able to close out a tournament on the PGA Tour, there will certainly be some question marks. His eyes are surely on Augusta National, but one has to wonder: If Spieth is unable to take down Moore and Schenk, will his game stack up to the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm? Fought hard from there and made a nice bogey, and then a nice couple shots on the last couple, and that 18th pin is just brutal there. A birdie on the difficult 12th followed, and before Moore knew it, his probability to win skyrocketed. Moore's day began in relatively mundane fashion with a birdie on the par-5 opener before a string of five consecutive pars. On a day where a Jordan Spieth trip to the winner's circle or Adam Schenk's maiden victory felt inevitable, it was Taylor Moore who raced out in front to 10 under to claim his first title on the PGA Tour at the 2023 Valspar Championship.

Taylor Moore's magical Sunday at Valspar is the day he has ... (pgatour.com)

He required a near-miracle just to save bogey. Adam Schenk, who led the golf tournament from Thursday on, hit a poor drive at the 72nd hole that finished, of ...

He doesn’t have to have his ‘A’ game to score, because he knows his game and how to get around. He could turn left, toward the airport, and try to catch his flight. He did so by playing such circuits as the Mackenzie Tour-PGA TOUR Canada and through the Korn Ferry Tour, through which he earned a card for 2021-22. He was on his way to the airport to fly to an event, and found himself at a traffic intersection. Of a thin lie in the straw following a poor tee shot, Moore was hoping to get something to the middle of the green, and pulled off a shot better than he'd hoped. Spieth, for one, believed the trophy was down to three players late Sunday – himself, Schenk and Tommy Fleetwood, who made a bad bogey with a poor second shot at the par-5 14th – and was caught by surprise to see Moore's name pop on the board at 10 under. A long bunker save at 17 and a beautiful two-putt from just off the front of the green at 18 – a finish of a champion – allowed Moore to post at 10-under 274. Moore’s closing 4-under 67 was three shots better than each of his four closest pursuers, which speaks to the quality of the round. He stuffed an approach in tight to set up birdie at 12; he birdied the par-3 15th with a 9-iron to 6 feet; and he followed that with a bold birdie from the left pine straw at 16, a hole that troubled so many others. Why, he even turned in 15 holes of what he termed “boring” golf, the steady stuff, with three birdies and nary a single bogey on the card when he reached the par-4 16th tee. But there Spieth produced one of his worst swings of the week, rinsing his tee shot with his 3-wood deep into a right-side pond that guards the dogleg. – On a frenzied Sunday on a cool, mostly overcast, and breezy afternoon at the Valspar Championship, most fans in the partisan crowd pushed their chips toward the center of the table figuring a rather reliable golfer from Dallas to be the last man standing.

Taylor Moore What's In The Bag? (Golf Monthly)

American Taylor Moore is a one-time winner on the PGA Tour, getting into the winner's circle at the 2023 Valspar Championship. But what clubs does he use out on ...

Specifically we believe it is the latest 2023 version which recently got five stars in our review. His final club in the bag is a Ping PLD Oslo 4 prototype which has a mallet design, finished in black. His four-iron is a Ping i230 which we loved during testing because of the combination of reliability, forgiveness and a stable feel. The G430 Max is a long yet easy-to-use fairway wood and will be many golfers favorite in the 2023 season thanks to its versatility and high launch characteristics. The G430 LST driver got five stars in our testing because it is a hugely impressive driver that does a great job of balancing distance with consistency. He starts with a Ping G430 LST driver which has 10.5 degrees of loft with a Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Blue 60 TX shaft.

Taylor Moore comes from out of the pack to get his first PGA Tour ... (GolfDigest.com)

Second-year PGA Tour player Taylor Moore shot 67 in the final round to overtake Jordan Spieth and Adam Schenk to win the Valspar Championship.

I had a chance with the wedge shot that came up short, and then I had a chance with the putt, which surprisingly actually hit the pin and came close. [caddie] David [Cooke] and I did about as good as we could have done with how I hit it today. After debating with his caddie about what to do, Schenk flipped his club over and hit left-handed—and he got another bad break when his well-played shot scooted through the fairway and into the rough. Wish I could have lightly hit somebody and stayed where I had a chance to get to the green. But in a back-nine thriller on so many fronts on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook outside Tampa, Spieth and Schenk faltered, and Moore seized his first tour win by shooting a final-round four-under-par 67 to finish at 10 under. But Schenk pulled his drive left and got the worst of breaks.
