"I think it makes it sweeter for sure," Jaquez Jr. "It's just a really huge plus that we're both here together," Jaquez added. "The kids (are) playing back to back to back to back to back. "And then to see just two of them at UCLA is pretty incredible." "You have these dreams of your kids playing basketball and you don't know what level they're going to play," Jaquez Sr. "I was just like, you know, 'Do what's best for you,' and I knew it would all work out in the end,'" Jaquez said.

Revisiting the history between Northwestern and UCLA basketball (Inside NU)

It's not 2013 anymore. Chris Collins isn't a new coach and Northwestern has gone dancing.

Ten years is a long time, and it certainly has not been seasons of the ‘Cats coming out on top, but like it was written for To have a win over a reputable team would have been huge for Collins and a reborn program, but its own relatively strong shooting night, occurring without its leading scorer Drew Crawford at the time, was overshadowed by a triumphant showing by UCLA. The Bruins squad featured Kyle Anderson and Jordan Adams, two offensive stars that had just helped lead UCLA to a conference win, and then, to a sound win over the ‘Cats. The Bruins eclipsed the ‘Cats by 14 points in ’69 and 13 in ’62. Much like it was back in November 2013, UCLA is a solid team capable of a deep run into March, and Northwestern is the underdog, grateful for the opportunity to compete. Hoping for a third win — and a bit of a miracle too — Northwestern gears up to play No.

The big man for the Bruins looks to have suffered a brutal leg injury in the closing seconds of the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

He was able to walk back to the floor for the postgame handshake line, so that’s an early encouraging sign for the Bruins. The senior has played a huge part for the Bruins this season, averaging 9.2 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. He came down on his foot hard and had to be helped off the floor by his teammates.

March Madness: UCLA beats Northwestern, returns to Sweet 16 (Los Angeles Times)

David Singleton exited late with an ankle sprain as UCLA held off Northwestern 68-63 to advance to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.

“We’re going to celebrate, but we know the job’s not finished,” Singleton said. Buie finished with 18 points, Matthew Nicholson added 17 and Chase Audige had all 16 of his in the second half for the Wildcats. UCLA (31-5) will play the winner of Sunday’s second-round game between Gonzaga and Texas Christian in a regional semifinal Thursday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The Bruins’ relentless defense and ability to protect the ball make them capable of beating any team. Andrews also made two free throws with 20 seconds left after the departure of Singleton, who injured an ankle and had to leave the game. “Once you don’t believe in yourself, it’s over,” Singleton said. “Made both.” [Tyger Campbell](https://www.latimes.com/sports/ucla/story/2022-12-08/ucla-basketball-tyger-campbell-role), who missed a late free throw in the Pac-12 tournament championship, went 12 for 12, including six straight in the final three minutes. Singleton, who went scoreless in that title-game loss to Arizona, buried his only three-pointer of the night to give the Bruins a 62-56 lead with 1:52 left.
