Bill O'Brien constructed a two-tight-end offense in the early 2010's that set records and now he'll have two veteran tight ends to employ. After four productive seasons with the Dolphins, including a breakout 2021 in which he had 73 catches for 780 yards, the arrival of head coach Mike McDaniel signaled a reduced workload for Gesicki. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots are signing former Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki.

The Patriots have made their second big free-agent signing, and it's once again on the offensive side of the ball.

Bill Belichick's defenses have largely kept Gesicki in check during their nine meetings, with Gesicki catching 14 passes on 28 targets for 125 yards. The Patriots also traded away Jonnu Smith, creating a need at tight end that Gesicki fills. The 6-foot-6, 247-pound has caught 231 passes for 2,617 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Cooks carries a $ 26.5 million cap hit with the Texans this season, so the Patriots probably would need to re-work his contract if they traded for him.
