The source said Briere's dismissal wasn't the result of a single incident but rather stemmed from repeated behavior for which he received multiple warnings. Before joining Mercyhurst, Briere was a redshirt freshman for the Arizona State men's hockey team during the 2019-20 season. Briere today issued a statement taking responsibility for his actions, and in doing so, he recognized his behavior reflects a 'serious lack of judgment' and that he is 'deeply sorry.' We pray for and are in solidarity with the victim and all persons with disabilities who rightfully find actions like this to be deeply offensive. On Tuesday, a video was posted to Twitter showing Briere and two others talking at the top of a bar's staircase next to an empty wheelchair. Briere, 23, is a junior center for the Mercyhurst University men's hockey team based in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Carson Briére admits to pushing wheelchair [Updated] (Deadspin)

The Mercyhurst hockey player fesses up to TMZ, says he's 'deeply sorry'

This is the equivalent of grabbing a wheelchair at the entrance of your grocery store and ramming it into a display full of canned corn. Deadspin reached out to the Erie Police Department to determine if they were also looking into the matter but, at the time of publication, we had not received a response. So not only did this woman have to deal with inaccessible restrooms, she had a couple of assholes toss her chair down the stairs for no reason that anyone can discern. However, Zukowski did share this direct message from Briére that she received on Instagram shortly after the piece went viral: “and I will do whatever I can to make up for this serious lack of judgment.” Seconds later, with the wheelchair upended one flight down, both men casually stroll into the pub, as nonchalantly as if they had tossed a red Solo cup into the trash instead of throwing someone’s access to the world down a flight of stairs.
