Warriors' season-best start keys win vs. Suns before five-game road ... (NBC Sports)

The Warriors used their best first quarter of the season to hold off the Suns as they brace a huge five-game road trip.

For how great Thompson was in the first quarter, he nearly was as great in the second. The Warriors were outscored by five points in the second quarter and seven in the fourth before scoring one more point than the Suns in the final 12 minutes. A smooth track was created from locking down defensively and two of the greatest shooters ever putting on a show. The Warriors as a team scored 32 points in the frame. "You need to do it on the road, but even when we have been down big we fought back and found our way back into a game. "In the two early Phoenix losses, he really struggled and showed a lot of frustration, so I know it felt good for him to have that huge first half regardless of who we were playing, but as I said, this is a division rival and a team that has beaten us in three straight. He came out and set the tone." The future Hall of Famer saved his best for last, finishing with a game-high 38 points on 14-of-23 shooting and 8 of 14 from beyond the arc. In the Warriors' wild overtime win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday, the defending champions held their first lead after the first quarter in exactly one month. He scored only two points and was ejected in their first matchup. The bench was on its feet with a plethora of celebrations. The previous high was a 20-point lead all the way back on Nov.

While it's a beautiful, state-of-the-art arena, and has also already seen a championship, it doesn't have the same connection to the team as Oracle did. Perhaps that will come in time, but it's clear from Curry's comments that even he still feels a pull to the old building. I have been a big fan of 'Let's just have one regular season game over there,' just to have a little flash to the past. During their dominant run from 2014-19, when they went to five consecutive Finals and won three titles, the Warriors went 218-44 at Oracle between the regular season and the playoffs. They've also been plagued by slow starts, home and away; according to the ESPN broadcast, the Warriors were -107 in the first quarter in their past 12 games. The “Protect This House” slogan, which Under Armour debuted in 2003, is being revived for its 20th anniversary, and Curry is the most prominent face of the campaign. JaMychal Green's toughness, 3-point shot thriving with Warriors (NBC Sports)

JaMychal Green brings the dog mentality to Dub Nation, and the Warriors love it.

"A lot of people turn to him when things are kind of heating up in the game. The Warriors are his fifth franchise, and they've had their eyes on him for years. Soft spoken but with a deep, strong voice that calls for a purpose, Green has earned his respect around the NBA. "When we played Milwaukee, Brook [Lopez] was sitting in the paint. The Warriors had seen the 6-foot-8 stretch big hurt them from deep enough in the past to know he was still capable of doing so. Once we get downhill and break down the defense, we can kick, swing, drive again and that's when we get whatever we want. That's great for chemistry, that's great for a team's morale and J-Mych has provided that." Lee then drove past Green but elbowed him while the Warriors big man was called for a foul, and then Lee proceeded to push Moses Moody to ground at then of the sequence. We were trying to figure out different lineups and I didn't put him in a great position to succeed. All of that was lost thanks to the scene late in the fourth quarter between Lee and JaMychal Green. Then on Monday against the Suns, he added nine points with seven rebounds and a block. The mindset has allowed him to play free, and the results have shown on the court.

Stephen's Study: Takeaways from Suns vs. Warriors (Bright Side of the Sun)

Slow start, again, plagues the Suns after valiant comeback efforts.

Exclusive to the road, they’re 1-16 in the same scenario. “There were a few breakdowns because of their own but I didn’t think it was a failing grade.” Last time out, the Suns (sans Durant) and Bucks (sans Antetokounmpo) had a mud fight in Milwaukee that saw the Bucks squeak by with a 104-101 win. The Warriors simply wanted it more, early yesterday. There are ebbs and flows over the course of a season, however, the players that they need to knock down the types of looks that their offense generates consistently, are in need of a breakout game, collectively. They were able to generate reaction advantage amidst the Suns switching both on-ball and off it and exploited the slightest hiccups they saw from the defense in a fashion that they’ve made a signature to observe.

Warriors Observations: Defense, Klay Thompson Fuel Win Over Suns (NBC Bay Area)

For the second straight game, the Warriors' defense set the tone as they managed to beat the Suns for the first time this season.

Coming after a 28-26 first-quarter lead over the Bucks on Saturday, this is the first time since Feb. This is a dramatic change for a team had so much trouble in first quarters. But of course, it’s wouldn’t so neat and clean. Thompson’s scoring will get a lot of love, deservedly, but it was Golden State’s defense that once again set the tone for the first quarter. Maybe the lessons of the first 67 games finally have been learned. That, along with four turnovers, allowed the Warriors to take a 22-7 lead in a little more than six minutes.
