Need to Know: Bruins at Blackhawks (NHL.com)

After taking a puck off the ankle in Saturday's game against the Red Wings at TD Garden, Hampus Lindholm was out of the lineup for Sunday's game vs. Detroit.

"I talked to Lindholm at the end of the skate and I think he is going to play," said Montgomery. "We can do our regular neutral zone and kind of fore checking pressure and not have to worry about where he is coming from on the ice." "So this is a good opportunity for the body to lose a couple of bruises." Blackhawks 6, Bruins 3 — Three Stars, Key Takeaways (bleachernation.com)

You know what the Blackhawks really needed? Another injury. So when they had to make an unscheduled goaltender change in the middle of the second period.

(The Blackhawks won 20 of the 43.) Boston out-shot the Blackhawks 16-10 in the second period. He also appeared to stay down after his final save and send Buddy Robinson to the bench to communicate something to the coaches before coming out of the game. (The Blackhawks won 10 of the 12.) And the Bruins went the final 14:57 without a shot on net. He scored his third of the night and 20th of the season into the empty net with 44.8 seconds left in regulation and there was laundry on the sheet. If he’ll commit to going to the blue paint — where he scored the goal — he’ll have a nice role here. So when they had to make an unscheduled goaltender change in the middle of the second period while clinging to a 1-0 lead and the momentum pretty clearly wearing the wrong jersey, the scramble drill was back in effect.

Bruins lose to lowly Blackhawks, 6-3 (Boston Herald)

Life is not easy for the Bruins these days. Whether their Secretariat-in-the-Belmont lead over the NHL field is dulling their edges or free-and-easy, ...

Lindholm sent a puck in deep and Bertuzzi simply beat Seth Jones in the puck battle. After Ullmark had to come up with good paddle save on Philipp Kurashev to keep it a one-goal deficit, the B’s turned up the pressure but goalie Petr Mrazek made some excellent saves to preserve the Blackhawk lead. But the good times have been put on hold for now. But after taking a Dmitry Orlov slapper off the mask, Mrazek made two good stops on Trent Frederic and then had to leave the game with injury. The Hawks then left the B’s in the dust. After a quick lead didn’t materialize, the B’s started getting sloppy with the puck again and they paid for it. Whether gassed or he miscalculated, Clifton backed off and allowed Entwistle a path to the net. Zacha had two good chances, one on he penalty kill off a beautiful Jake DeBrusk pass, but both his offerings missed the net. This time it was lowly Chicago Blackhawks who took their shot, and they landed it on the B’s chin, scoring four third-period goals to beat the B’s, 6-3, at the United Center. If not for a spirited comeback win over the Red Wings on Saturday, the B’s would be riding a four-game losing streak right now. The goalie could not find the puck to freeze and no Bruin defender could clear it before Raddysh snapped it home. Raddysh finally finished it off with an empty netter for the hat trick.

Talking Points: Slumping Boston Bruins Fall In Third To Chicago (Boston Hockey Now)

The Boston Bruins fell to the Chicago Blackhawks in the third period after actually building a 3-2 lead earlier in the frame.

[Betting10 hours ago ](https://bostonhockeynow.com/2023/03/14/the-ice-guys-nhl-betting-show-tuesday-march-14/) The energy and the emotion of our team right now is at levels that I haven’t seen all year.” –Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery to NESN following Tuesday night’s loss. Lindholm was the one kick-starting the offense with Boston’s first score and then it was his dump-in attempt that set up Tyler Bertuzzi winning a one-on-one battle with Seth Jones, and resulted in Bertuzzi feeding it to Trent Frederic for a game-tying goal at the end of the second period. But then the Hawks stormed out with a tying and go-ahead goal and watched as Tyler Bertuzzi had a possible goal waved off when a shot hit a crossbar and the bottom of the post before bouncing away from the net. Clifton finished with a minus-3 rating and Forbort also finished a minus-3 as well when he was turned around on a slick Boris Katchouk toe drag and drive to the net where he buried one top corner against Linus Ullmark. Most of the Raddysh offense served as insurance stuff for Chicago with Raddysh banging home a loose puck in front to give the B’s some cushion on the scoreboard before he fired home a puck into an empty net late in the third.

League-leading Bruins face a 'reality check' (Boston.com)

Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark in net against the Blackhawks. Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark gave up five goals in the team's 6-3 loss on Tuesday. By Tim ...

“I think for us, like we’ve done all year, we have to look at ourselves in the mirror,” Bergeron said. Even then, entering the playoffs with a healthy roster remains their top priority. The Bruins won’t have much practice time to address their glaring deficiencies. Even the timely goals from these last two games, including Tuesday’s tallies from Lindholm, Trent Frederic and Zacha, weren’t enough to overcome deficits against a pair of non-playoff teams in the Red Wings and Blackhawks. The Bruins showcased tremendous resiliency whenever they faced a deficit this season. We’re cheating at times, we’re turning pucks over at lines when guys need to change and they can’t change if they’re staying on the ice for a long period of time, the onus becomes on us individually to be accountable for your teammate. But Entwistle’s third began a string of nine straight Chicago shots, thus continuing Boston’s struggles in the opening 20 minutes. The defensive layers in front of Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman that stymied opposing offenses have unraveled a bit. Between that, ill-timed line changes, and a stagnant power play, the Bruins now find themselves in ‘reality check’ territory. The Bruins encountered significant defensive breakdowns against a Blackhawks squad fully embracing the tank wars for Conor Bedard. And indeed, they had another answer following Zacha’s 17th goal of the season. Bad Starts “Are Kind Of Killing” the Boston Bruins During Slump (Boston Hockey Now)

They lost back-to-back regulation games for the first time this season when they dropped a 6-3 game to the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center on Tuesday ...

The bottom line: It feels like the Boston Bruins are sleepwalking a bit right now with a Stanley Cup playoff berth clinched and very little pushing them after they built such a dominant lead over everybody else in the field. But the third periods, where the B’s have been dominant all year, have also been inconsistent as opponents pulled away from the Boston Bruins in the losses to both the Oilers and Blackhawks during this stretch as well. “So, there’s a lot of things that we can learn from these past couple games. Coyle expressed regret that there wasn’t more energy on Tuesday against the Blackhawks after the Boston Bruins players were given the day off from the practice ice on Monday, and Patrice Bergeron called it the team playing “disconnected” hockey. All of the games, even Saturday’s comeback win over the Red Wings at TD Garden, featured very slow starts from the Black and Gold where they didn’t look quite ready to play out of the starting gate. They lost back-to-back regulation games for the first time this season when they dropped a 6-3 game to the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center on Tuesday night, and they’ve now lost three of their last four games dating back to Connor McDavid’s visit to Boston last week.

Rule changes boost Bruins in regular-season record quest (Associated Press)

BOSTON (AP) — It takes a little bit of hockey history to put the Boston Bruins' run at a record-breaking season in context.

___ The bonus shot was added in 1979 — midway through Abdul-Jabbar’s tenure. It’s important to view achievements in the context of their era. Teams now play a five-minute sudden death overtime, followed by a shootout if necessary; the winning team gets two points, the OT or shootout loser gets one point and a regulation loser gets zero. Detroit did it in the first year of the current 82-game schedule. Since 2005, games cannot end in a tie.

Cup-hungry Boston Bruins shrug off shot at NHL records (Sportsnet.ca)

In a season full of extreme numbers, the Boston Bruins know exactly what value they put on winning the most games in NHL history.

But it’s really about who wins the last game of the year.” “We’ve seen that it’s kind of bit teams in the past,” Grzelcyk said. Montgomery said the team hasn't talked about the records, instead concentrating on getting in shape for the playoffs. “But you’re working hard to get into the playoffs. “We play for the Stanley Cup,” Bruins President Cam Neely said flatly. It also has a chance to surpass the record 132 points amassed by the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens.

Four Takeaways From Bruins' 6-3 Loss To Blackhawks (NESN.com)

The Bruins lost their second straight game after a lackadaisical effort led to a 6-3 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday night.

They became the fastest team [in NHL history](https://nesn.com/2023/03/garnet-hathaways-first-goal-with-bruins-helped-team-make-history/) to [reach 50 wins](https://nesn.com/2023/03/bruins-wrap-boston-overcomes-sluggish-start-to-beat-red-wings/), set [franchise records](https://nesn.com/2023/02/ecstatic-linus-ullmark-overjoyed-after-scoring-goalie-goal-in-bruins-win/) and were the first time to clinch a playoff berth. It’s a problem that needs to be addressed, especially with playoffs right around the corner. They were bound to hit some sort of slump, but they need to right the wrongs sooner rather than later. … A lot of things we’re not doing well as a group right now. [Jim Montgomery told](https://twitter.com/NESN/status/1635849666796433409?s=20) NESN’s Jack Edwards and Andy Brickley of his emotions after the loss. There’s no reason to panic about how the Bruins have played over their last two games. “We’re not playing the right way. We’re cheating and I think this league is going to humble you if you don’t do that. We’re not working as a team right now and it’s the first time all year I can say that. … We pride ourselves on being a team that can come back but you can’t be doing that every night. They found themselves playing from behind and giving up the first goal for the third consecutive game.
