The Falcons are giving former Bengals safety Jessie Bates a four-year, $64.02 million deal, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday.

The Falcons also traded a seventh-round pick to New England for tight end [Jonnu Smith](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3054212/jonnu-smith) and re-signed fullback Keith Smith to a one-year deal, sources said, and re-signed punter [Bradley Pinion](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/2977680/bradley-pinion) to a three-year deal. Bates also offers Atlanta flexibility in the defensive backfield as the team returns both of its starters at safety from last season -- [Jaylinn Hawkins](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3858276/jaylinn-hawkins) and [Richie Grant](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4042119/richie-grant). Terrell](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4239995/aj-terrell), whom the team took in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft. As the team approached the end of its season, the 2018 second-round pick out of Wake Forest said he knew he could be playing elsewhere in 2023. When Bates was the nearest defender, per NFL Next Gen Stats, opponents were held to -8.7 completion percentage below expectation. It makes Bates the fourth highest paid safety in NFL history.

The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to a four-year, $64 million contract with safety Jessie Bates, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.

Lindstrom was selected to his first Pro Bowl this past season after starting all 17 games at right guard and anchoring a line that opened up holes for the third-best rushing attack in the NFL. The 26-year-old Lindstrom, a second-team All-Pro in 2022, was Atlantaโ€™s top pick in 2019 out of Boston College. He was a second-team All-Pro in 2020. The Falcons are sending a seventh-round pick to New England, per NFL Network. It locks up another key member of the offensive line, with left tackle Jake Matthews under contract through 2026. Smith had 27 catches for 245 yards last year.
