Why the Bucs' interest in Baker Mayfield as potential starting QB isn't ... (Rams Wire)

The Buccaneers are expected to target Baker Mayfield as a potential starting quarterback, and that's not terrible news for the Rams.

Mayfield’s market will determine whether he returns to the Rams or lands elsewhere as a potential starter because Los Angeles can’t afford to pay him starter money like other teams can. That would seem like bad news for the Rams, who are in need of a backup behind Matthew Stafford, but it’s not necessarily a negative as free agency is set to begin. That might’ve been the best thing for him because now he enters free agency with the possibility of becoming a starter again.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers set sights on Baker Mayfield as Tom Brady ... (Akron Beacon Journal)

Reports say that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could have interest in former Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. It would be his fourth NFL team.

And although Brady had a subpar outing in what turned out to be his final (we think?) season, there’s little doubt he could still play. After leaving the Browns in a trade with Carolina, he could not revive a Panthers team that played better after his departure for Los Angeles. It’s not difficult to believe that Mayfield — a former No.

Bucs Monday Mailbag: Baker Mayfield To The Bucs? (Pewter Report)

Will the Bucs target Baker Mayfield as the veteran free agent QB to compete with Kyle Trask? That question and more in this week's Bucs Mailbag.

I would be fine having Griffin back as a mentor to Kyle Trask and whoever else the Bucs bring in to compete for the starting job. Even if he’s the veteran practice squad QB again, Griffin could find a way to help the Bucs in the film room at the very least. While his career never panned out on the field, he made a damn good living as a backup or third-string quarterback with the Saints and the Bucs. As for Carolina, the Panthers are poised to draft a quarterback at No. In fact, the Bucs could feel quite dangerous with Mayfield as the starter if he wins the job. ANSWER: The Bucs have certainly had their opportunities to find a franchise quarterback. I’m not saying this will be a Glazers decision if the Bucs wind up signing Mayfield to compete with Trask for the starting quarterback job. But time will tell if Carr is truly an upgrade and worth the money. Part of this dilemma is the fact that the Bucs may have missed on some of these signal callers. Just the chance of having Mayfield on the team as a potential starter could sway some more national exposure for the Bucs when the schedule comes out in early May after the 2023 NFL Draft. It will certainly be an interesting and entertaining quarterback competition if the outspoken Mayfield ends up joining the Bucs. [Baker Mayfield](https://www.pewterreport.com/report-bucs-target-baker-mayfield-free-agency/) appears to be the best of the bunch.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are exploring multiple options at quarterback following Tom Brady's retirement. Per ESPN's Dianna Russini, Jacoby Brissett is on…

The Bucs still have a lot of talent on offense with Evans, Chris Godwin, Russell Gage and Rachaad White. They have a number of veteran players signed to expensive contracts and entered the offseason $57 million over the cap. Trask was a second-round draft pick in 2021, but he hasn't had an opportunity to show anything in the NFL thus far. There's an argument that Brissett is the best free-agent quarterback available this offseason. The Buccaneers might need to find a bridge quarterback for 2023.

Tampa Bay Bucs may be targeting Baker Mayfield as next ... (FOX 13 Tampa Bay)

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a new free agent on their minds, according to a report. It is none other than Baker Mayfield.

Baker Mayfield #6 of the Carolina Panthers runs for a touchdown against the Cleveland Browns during their game at Bank of America Stadium on September 11, 2022 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Within a day, the Rams claimed Mayfield. Beckham forced his way off the roster and the Browns stumbled to an 8-9 finish and missed the playoffs. The Browns ended up winning their first opener since 2004, 26-24. Mayfield sat out the finale and had surgery soon after. Both coincidentally met for the season opener in Charlotte. Watt a few weeks later, and Mayfield never found his rhythm the rest of the season. 10, 2021, and came within minutes of getting Cleveland to the AFC Championship a week later before losing at Kansas City. For the first time in years, there was genuine hope for a floundering franchise that has had 32 starting QBs since 1999. The quarterback's time with the Browns included fewer memorable moments than distracting ones as he couldn’t end the team’s long search for a franchise QB. Former Browns general manager John Dorsey was enamored with Mayfield’s talent and swayed by his swagger, choosing the Heisman Trophy winner from Oklahoma first despite other options, including Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. He spent four years with the Cleveland Browns.

Former Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield has some suitors this ... (Factory Of Sadness)

The Cleveland Browns parted ways with Baker Mayfield last offseason, and despite landing in Los Angeles during 2022, he may be on the move yet again.

Who knows if Bucs head coach Todd Bowles would want Mayfield, but as he’s seen by many as a lame-duck head coach at the moment, it’s very likely that he may not be in a position to refuse a quarterback that the front office wills upon him. The Rams are a team that is interested in his services. Arians was considering the Browns job in 2018 in part due to Mayfield. Mayfield has a lot of work to do to prove he’s still capable at his position. Even though the Browns do need a backup quarterback, it seems unlikely that Andrew Berry and Kevin Stefanski would want to play nice with Mayfield, and vice versa. or a Josh Gordon type, the Browns’ former No.1 overall pick from the 2018 NFL Draft is not an option to return to Cleveland.
