With 15 games remaining and sitting in a Play-In spot, the Bulls now begin their playoff push in earnest.

I’ve seen sometimes in the past we can get a little bit deflated from that, or we miss some shots and it kind of bleeds into our defense. Over that stretch, the Bulls hounded Houston into missing nine of its final 10 shots while forcing two turnovers. They led by 11 in the final seconds of the third. He barked instructions to center [Andre Drummond](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/andre-drummond-EMAr6CqGO9tooNht/) after a miscommunication led to a turnover. [a pivotal victory that followed Chicago’s best of the season](https://theathletic.com/4290604/2023/03/09/bulls-best-win-nuggets-playoff-hopes/). The Rockets missed 10 of their final 11 3-pointers. He blocked a driving layup attempt by 6-foot-8 Rockets forward [Tari Eason](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/tari-eason-eP9Dh0dR0KUnc6Ga/). In his ninth season, the two-time All-Star is crafting his best close to a season. It was his first double-double with Chicago and the first time he’s cracked double-figure scoring with the Bulls. Beverley, the game’s shortest player at 6 feet 1, grabbed a game-high five offensive rebounds. And judging by the way they closed out the Rockets, the Bulls aren’t ready to go home.

“We kept staying with it, we stayed the course. Thanks to the Wizards losing again on Friday, the Bulls are now back in the No. The Caruso, Beverley, LaVine, DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic closing lineup was effective again, but it wasn’t time to celebrate just yet. Especially in how they played the first three quarters, doing everything that Donovan warned them not to do against the inexperienced but athletic Rockets (15-52). Just like that, a nail-biting tie was a 115-106 Bulls lead in a matter of just over two minutes. “It’s something we should have done a handful of times this season with teams of that caliber,’’ Caruso said of the finish.

Enhanced Box Score: Bulls 119, Rockets 111 – March 11, 2023 (bleachernation.com)

The Chicago Bulls picked up a big win on the road in Houston to move back into 10th place and the final Play-In spot.

All that matters is that they actually managed to take advantage of a prime opportunity and move into the 10th seed. He also went on to connect for an electrifying alley-oop with DeMar DeRozan, which served as the exclamation point in what would be a 13-0 run for the Bulls to all but put the game away. As the minutes went by, they finally started to look like the 3rd-worst offense in the NBA. They also started to look like the far more immature group. It started to feel like it simply wasn’t going to be the Bulls’ night … He went on to drop 20 of his 36 points in the first half.

Neither the Rockets nor Bulls are prolific 3-point shooting teams — but for the second time this season, that didn't matter when they faced off. The Rockets ...

LaVine is averaging 34.8 points on 20.5 field-goal attempts — a steep increase from his season average of 24.7 points on 17.9 attempts — in the last five games. - Despite having an extra day of rest between games, the Bulls were slow out of the gate, forcing Billy Donovan to take a frustration timeout in the opening two minutes. On the ensuing play, he threw down a dunk off a lob from DeMar DeRozan, extending the Bulls’ lead to four. Both teams were on track to finish well above their averages after the third quarter — the Rockets went 15-for-23 and the Bulls 13-for-26. The secret keys to success for the Chicago Bulls' top 5 defense (Pippen Ain't Easy)

After all, DeMar DeRozan, Zach Lavine, and Nikola Vučević are all average defenders at best. Yet, the Bulls led by this three-headed monster of below-average ...

Last year, the Bulls got off to a hot start on the defensive end due to the lockdown perimeter defense of Caruso and Ball but ultimately finished as one of the worst defenses in the league. Lavine, like before, is way down on the block and comes over from the strong side to help contest Draymond’s shot at the rim. According to Cleaning the Glass, the Bulls give up the least amount of mid-range shots of any team in the league, the 3rd most threes, and a league average amount of shots at the rim. The Bulls’ ability to defend the corner three comes down to sound fundamentals on closeouts and situational awareness. Vooch is an absolute monster on the boards and muscles his way over lots of the smaller big men in the league. No matter what way you want to look at it, the Chicago Bulls are a top defense in the league.
