"I had a feeling that after this week at CPAC, with all of the patriots that we've seen come on stage, we have that fire stirring in our belly. I'm not a supporter." I've only really seen Trump people," said Ben Kelley, a 23-year-old DeSantis supporter. "We will evict Joe Biden from the White House. "I think there's a lot of people that hope so. And we will liberate America from these villains and scoundrels once and for all." "I'm glad he's not here. But conferencegoers, decked out in "Make America Great Again" hats and Trump paraphernalia, were content with the conference's narrow focus -- and, in some cases, eager to taper it more. It's always Trump first before anybody else," said Adam Radogna, a 33-year-old small business owner from Cleveland, Ohio. It's always Trump unless he's not on there." I think it's a narrow, small tent," said one aide to a possible 2024 contender. And while CPAC often followed emerging attitudes among the grassroots, it regularly featured speakers from across the Republican spectrum.

Trump ties a ribbon on the most MAGA CPAC yet (Politico)

The former president wrapped up the annual gathering of conservative activists with a rallying cry to his faithful for 2024.

She said the support for Trump at CPAC was a reflection of the “grassroots,” adding, “Trump is in the strongest position by a longshot.” “The donors are with the Washington establishment Republicans — and there is a major disconnect.” Haley sought to make her case for being the GOP alternative to Trump, calling herself “decisive” for officially getting in the primary while other candidates at the retreat were “hemming and hawing on the sidelines.” Trump praised people like Greene, Gaetz, right-wing talk show host Mark Levin and others — flaunting the conservative influencers who have tied themselves to him despite others in the party quietly pushing for his replacement. “They’re raising money from the people who don’t necessarily believe in America First,” Trump Jr. But Trump mostly held off when he was asked by reporters ahead of his speech about a potential DeSantis challenge and what it says about his own leadership if former Trump administration officials, like Haley, are getting in the race. His staffers passed out branded items and invited guests to attend a VIP reception while also encouraging attendees to cast a vote for him in the straw poll. But notably, the only member of Republican congressional leadership to attend was Stefanik, the New York congresswoman who was one of the first to endorse Trump for president. A few hours before he took the stage on Saturday, Trump posted a meme on his social media app of rows of empty chairs while Haley was on stage Friday. Part of the mob surrounding her broke out in chants of “Trump.” “Nikki Haley speaking at CPAC,” was emblazoned across the bottom of the image. At the four-day conference of conservative activists, Trump’s loyal fan base heckled his Republican opponents, overwhelmingly backed him in a straw poll and quickly booed what appeared to be a rogue audience member who started to play music over his speech.

And I promise you this: If you put me back in the White House, their reign will be over, and America will be a free nation once again,” Trump said. The straw poll is not a scientific survey and not representative of the broader GOP electorate, as it is limited to CPAC attendees. He took aim at several specific Republicans, telling the CPAC crowd the GOP is “never going back to the party of Paul Ryan, Karl Rove and Jeb Bush,” referring to the former House speaker, former George W. His remarks came during a nearly two-hour speech at CPAC in which he made the case that he can deliver conservatives “retribution” against Democrats and establishment Republicans. He was the first choice of 62% of CPAC attendees who were asked who they preferred as the GOP nominee in 2024. And for those who have been wronged and betrayed: I am your retribution,” Trump said. Today, I add: I am your warrior. Trump – while overstating the problems – said some Lake supporters did not wait in longer-than-expected lines, costing her votes. “In 2016, I declared: I am your voice.
