How Obi-Wan Kenobi Teased The Mandalorian's Hyperspace Whales (Screen Rant)

The purrgil's first live-action appearance in The Mandalorian season 3's premiere was secretly teased in Obi-Wan Kenobi's first episode.

Hopefully, the purrgil’s live-action appearance in The Mandalorian season 3, episode 1 paves the way for more stories involving these compelling creatures in Star Wars’ future. It’s not unreasonable to assume that some adventurers and researchers traverse the galaxy hoping to catch a glimpse of the purrgil. Leia has proven herself to be an adventurous spirit, and though it can get in the way of her duties, Bail recognizes her childlike wonder and curiosity. [purrgil Grogu sees in The Mandalorian use hyperspace](https://screenrant.com/mandalorian-grogu-hyperspace-creature-purrgils-explained/) to move throughout the galaxy, one of the few semi-sentient creatures that can do so without technology. Considering the purrgil are one of Star Wars’ most interesting creatures, as well as the importance of hyperspace travel within the galaxy, it’s surprising they haven’t been introduced in live-action prior to The Mandalorian season 3. In that series, Ezra Bridger, a young Jedi Padawan, made a strong connection with the purrgil through the Force, utilizing them as allies in the fight against the Empire in Star Wars Rebels’ explosive series finale.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Already Made a Big Mistake With ... (Den of Geek)

The season 3 premiere of the Star Wars series fails to address what happens to Grogu in The Book of Boba Fett, confusing fans and ignoring the character's ...

Forgoing the ways of the Jedi and returning to Djarin of his own accord was a massive turning point for this character. “The Apostate” essentially has two big opportunities to fill in viewers on what happened to Grogu and Mando in The Book of Boba Fett – during the recap that opens the episode and within the episode itself. Forcing your audience to watch seven episodes of a completely different (and subpar) spinoff so that you can understand the story of the main show is a big ask, especially for more casual fans who just want to tune into their Baby Yoda adventures once a week and then move on. We’ve [argued many times](https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/star-wars-book-of-boba-fett-worst-mistake/) that resolving The Mandalorian‘s most important conflict to date on another character’s show was a mistake, but instead of learning from this mistake and bridging the gap in a more cohesive way with the season 3 opener, Disney has doubled down on its decision for some reason. But there’s nothing on Grogu’s time with Luke, how Djarin forged the beskar spear into chainmail armor for the little guy, or [how they reunited on Tatooine](https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/star-wars-the-mandalorian-grogu-baby-yoda-return/) and got their new ship. The season 2 finale saw Grogu leave his adopted father to train with Luke Skywalker in an emotional cliffhanger, but the first episode of season 3 almost acts like this never happened.

'The Mandalorian,' 'Troops,' and the Fan-Filmification of Star Wars (Reason)

Remember "Troops," the late 1990s Star Wars fan film parody? There's a connection with "The Mandalorian" and the new era of Star Wars.

But that's just a reminder that for most of its life, Star Wars has existed as a collaborative project. The Mandalorian isn't a one-to-one parody in the style of Troops, but it's a homage that borrows heavily from the traditions of classic spaghetti Westerns, with a tight-lipped, mysterious protagonist and a series of encounters with dusty border towns. Filoni is, by all indications, a Star Wars super fan, the kind of intense and devoted obsessive who one can imagine staying up late into the night posting elaborate tributes to his favorite series on message boards, imagining off-screen storylines based on hidden hints to make sense of the story he so clearly loves. But looking back at Troops also sheds some light on the evolution of the Star Wars franchise in the intervening quarter century since its release. And it catered to a then-unsatiated fan hunger for more (and more and more and more). The mashed-up elements weren't original, but the parodic synthesis was, and by treating the stormtroopers as ordinary beat cops patrolling local communities, it delivered the sort of world-building that helped make Star Wars an obsession for a generation.

The Mandalorian Begins Again in Season 3 (The Escapist)

The Mandalorian begins again in season 3, almost a reboot of sorts, rather clumsy and with Din Djarin stuck in place in his Star Wars journey.

Karga seems to make the point that the story of The Mandalorian is complete. Then he prompts, “Where is the stolen fleet?” There is a sense that the third season of The Mandalorian is not really a direct continuation of the first two, and so a lot of information needs to be established very directly, with no time for poetry or nuance. “The Apostate” suggests that Djarin is still stuck chasing the past. Karga is a “High Magistrate” who has turned Nevarro into “the gem of the Outer Rim.” Katan is alone but at least sits on a throne. “I need this one,” he states to the Anzellans. The most obvious and most immediate is to assure the audience that The Mandalorian is back and that it is fundamentally the same show. It is to Favreau’s credit that “The Apostate” works at all, given the competing masters that it has to serve. This is an episode about setting up a new set of objectives for Djarin, establishing new rules and new stakes, and outlining what the next season or two is going to look like. The premiere’s second big objective is to bring the returning Mandalorian audience up to speed on what they missed if they skipped The Book of Boba Fett. He follows up with, “What became of Gideon?” There’s a sense of needing to cover ground quickly. However, there is a sense that The Mandalorian has charted a rocky course to its third season. That Sea Monster Was Cool, But Mandalorian's Krayt Dragon Was ... (Screen Rant)

The Mandalorian season 3, episode 1 introduced a cool new sea creature that still couldn't reach the heights of season 2's krayt dragon appearance.

The sea creature in The Mandalorian season 3, on the other hand, was simply a throwaway action scene, rendering it less important than the krayt dragon sequence of season 2. Similarly, the sea creature attack showed the promise of the Mandalorians working together in The Mandalorian season 3, episode 1. Similarly, the krayt dragon has a much deeper Star Wars meaning. The attack of the krayt dragon came in the premiere of its respective season as a means of showcasing the teamwork between the people of Freetown and the Tuskens in season 2. The chief reason as to why the krayt dragon attack was better than The Mandalorian season 3, episode 1's sea monster was due to the story of each episode.

The Mandalorian's Entire Boba Fett Arc Has Already Been Retconned (Screen Rant)

Din Djarin returned in The Book of Boba Fett, but now The Mandalorian season 3's premiere has completely retconned Mando's arc in the spinoff series.

However, in The Mandalorian season 3, Mando is the one telling the Armorer that he needs to go to Mandalore, with the latter now opposing the idea. Neither the Armorer nor Bo-Katan is particularly fond of Din Djarin and his journey, which adds to the idea that Mando and Grogu cannot trust many people in the Star Wars galaxy. The result is The Mandalorian season 3 either having to recap and explain things from Boba Fett with exposition dialogue or simply retconning and ignoring moments from the spinoff During Boba Fett episode 5, which was very much a The Mandalorian season 2.5 placed in another show, Din Djarin reunited with the Armorer for the first time after removing his helmet twice during the In Boba Fett, the Armorer specifically tells Din to go to Mandalore's Living Waters to seek atonement. If Din is successful and ventures to Sundari, audiences will see the ruins of the city from the Empire in live-action. Anzellans were seen in The Rise of Skywalker, and are known for being master droidsmiths. The first episode of season 3 of The Mandalorian provides answers as to Cara Dune’s fate. However, the return of the Anzellans indicates that sequels are still a thing in Star Wars. Audiences are familiar with protocol droids, especially the likes of C-3PO, who have familiar designs It is on par with the devastation of a Death Star, rendering the planet inhabitable through orbital bombardment leaves warning and a graveyard planet. It’s interesting to see Din Djarin provide evidence of the surface of Mandalore with this green crystal. The departure of Gina Carano from The Mandalorian left many questions surrounding her character, who had quite the role in the two seasons before. The fact that space pirates are showing just how much of a nuisance they can be further cements them in Star Wars canon, and brings hope for the arrival of Hondo Ohnaka. There is a vastness in the Star Wars galaxy, one that sees a constant return of memorable faces, droids, species, and phrases. However, perhaps the most famous of pirates is the proclaimed Pirate King Hondo Ohnaka, who as yet, has not been seen in live-action Star Wars. Pirates lurk in every corner of space in Star Wars.

Why Does Everyone in The Mandalorian Talk Like That? (Gizmodo)

Star Wars has a history of clunky dialogue, but the Disney+ show has a special knack for having none of its characters actually sound like people.

It does feel like a series of video game levels, like characters cease to exist in any form of agency or desire once they have doled out their mission dialogue and Din is on his merry way. It feels like an intriguing contrast there, because it has become a set of watchwords that people say at each other to convey a sense of understanding that can’t be conveyed by the dialogue elsewhere, reliant as it is on its expository nature. But the reversion of IG-11’s programming and the destruction of his memory chip prove the droid is more likely to compromise Din’s mission. [Din decides he must go back to Mandalore](https://collider.com/mandalorian-season-3-clip/) and bathe in the sacred waters that flow in the home planet of Mandalore culture. While it’s reasonable that Din takes a droid with him to Mandalore, we are puzzled as to why The Mandalorian’s writer’s room decided IG-11 would be the only metal warrior for the job. And when Din looks the fuzzy little ball in the eyes, he decides to betray IG-11 and the Bounty Hunting Guild, shooting the droid down. IG-11's story begins in the very first episode of The Mandalorian when we meet the droid as a bounty hunter tasked with destroying the same package Din is tasked with retrieving. The most jarring of them is the return of IG-11 (voiced by Taika Waititi), the android bounty hunter who met his demise at the end of the first season.

The Mandalorians: Real-World Inspirations Behind the Space ... (Collider.com)

The Mandalorian culture is a mix of real-life Vikings, Ancient Greek, Norse and Celtic inspirations.

The same goes for the signs — specific markings on the Mandalorian armor that represents allegiance to a specific clan or organization such as Death Watch. From there we learn that although Mando’a as a language has no linguistic roots in Celtic languages per se, its significance for the Mandalorian culture is strikingly similar to what a common language meant for Celts — along the warrior creed and clan structure — it was the staple of their identity. It's hard to tell how much Norsemen actual influenced the creation of the Mandalorians and how much we simply want to attribute them to one another. Unlike the Spartans (and the Imperial clone soldiers), the Mandalorians are not prone to work as a perfect fighting unit on a battlefield. [religious attitude to weapons and battles](https://collider.com/the-mandalorian-din-djarin-pedro-pascal-religious-trauma/) and the decentralized chain of command easily link the fictional and the real warrior societies. Star Wars Proves The Mandalorian & Grogu's Reunion Was Badly ... (Screen Rant)

The Mandalorian season 3's premiere episode has proven that the reunion between Mando and Grogu was mishandled in The Book of Boba Fett.

They can and should overlap in the future, but not to the extent that happened with The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. [Boba Fett’s appearance in The Mandalorian season 2](https://screenrant.com/boba-fett-armor-mandalorian-season-2-differences-changes/) worked because it made sense in the context of the story, and the focus was never fully shifted from Mando to Boba. A mention of how much Mando missed him here, a reference to something that happened in an old episode of The Mandalorian there, and Mando’s appearance in The Book of Boba Fett would have been celebrated. If Din Djarin’s cameo in The Book of Boba Fett had simply been limited to him helping in the war against the Pyke Syndicate, Grogu’s presence wouldn’t have even been necessary. It feels almost disingenuous to expect viewers who've come to love Din and Grogu over two seasons of The Mandalorian to have watched a spinoff focused on a completely different character - especially given Split the release into two parts, if necessary – that would have lengthened The Mandalorian season 3’s hype, and after such a long hiatus between season 2 and season 3, viewers would have likely welcomed a longer season anyway. After the episode aired, online searches for what happened in The Book of Boba Fett skyrocketed, and viewers took to social media in droves to figure out what they’d missed. In one scene, High Magistrate Greef Karga essentially acts as a stand-in for The Mandalorian viewers who hadn’t watched The Book of Boba Fett, just as confused about why Mando and Grogu are still together as the audience. It was surprising then, when The Book of Boba Fett, The Mandalorian’s first proper spinoff show, dedicated two episodes to Mando and Grogu’s story as opposed to focusing on its titular character, conveniently bringing the Foundling and the Mandalorian back together in time for The Mandalorian season 3’s premiere. To compensate for this, The Mandalorian season 3, episode 1 featured a fleeting infodump about how Mando and Grogu were reunited. [Mandalorian in The Book of Boba Fett](http://screenrant.com/book-of-boba-fett-mandalorian-episodes-explained/).
