Westbrook lost sight of Monk for a moment and Monk got the ball back from Fox and drained a three-pointer to send the game into overtime. The Clippers fought their way into a second overtime period behind Kawhi Leonard – he scored a season-high 44 points – but in the end they couldn’t overcome Westbrook’s barrage of turnovers and his unfocused defense. And every one of those turnovers was crucial to the loss in what turned out to be the second highest scoring game in NBA history. Start with this: the Clippers gave up nothing to get him. He scored 17 points and notched a dozen assists while controlling the ball most of the time he was on the floor. But the man appears incapable of introspection – blaming everyone from LeBron to the media to the coach for his on-court Lakers troubles. In OKC, he drove fellow superstar Kevin Durant so crazy with his style of play that Durant got the hell out of Dodge as soon as he could. Destroying their chances to make the playoffs is going to be a little harder for him to pull off this time because the Clippers are a significantly better team than the Lakers. The best point guards realize that their real job is to make their teammates better, to set them up in spots where they can succeed. He handles the ball most of the time, finds the open shooters, and makes the most basic decision more often than any other player: whether to pass or shoot. In other words, we’ll take the good things that he can still do along with the bad things he does and the truly ugly things he can do, like leading the league in turnovers and shooting less than 30 percent on 3-point shots. Of course, we all know how well that worked out – invitations to a “will be wild” insurrection, a plot to overthrow the lawful election, multiple criminal investigations.

Russell Westbrook and Paul George helped the Clippers rally, but the team lost 128-127 at Sacramento. There's no timetable yet for Norman Powell's injury.
Leading 92-91 with 3:13 to play in the quarter, the Clippers inserted reserves Mann, Bones Hyland and Robert Covington, pressed into duty after seven combined minutes in his last six games. His decision not to shoot an open three-pointer, instead passing back to George, who swished his corner shot, pushed the Clippers into their first lead of the quarter. In the run-up to the postseason, the Clippers could use a nine-man rotation, a number with which Lue is comfortable. What happened when Westbrook went to the bench for rest late in the third quarter underscored what made him so effective Friday. Powell, who had overcome a difficult shooting start to his first full Clippers season to become a candidate for the NBA’s top reserve by averaging 16.6 points on 41% three-point accuracy, suffered a subluxation of the left shoulder on the play toward the end of Thursday’s third quarter in San Francisco. Allowed a last chance to win, the Kings missed a jumper, but Domantas Sabonis drew a loose-ball foul with seven seconds left and made both free throws for a one-point lead.

Huerter drained a 3-point on the opening possession while looking to break out of his 29.2% February shooting slump, but he went to the bench after picking up three fouls in the first 3:13. The Kings shot 52.9% and went a perfect 26 of 26 at the free-throw line, but they allowed the Clippers to shoot 54% and trailed twice in the final minute after leading by 13 with less than eight minutes remaining. Fox went on the attack to score 11 third-quarter points after being whistled for a technical foul, helping the Kings carry a 101-96 lead into the fourth. The Kings escaped with another important victory, improving to 5-0 in one-point games. “Obviously, we would love to be in blowout wins, but when the game gets close, that’s what any competitor wants to experience. At this point, though, the Clippers trail the Kings by six games in the standings and eight games in the loss column, so they’ve joined a growing list of teams that will have a hard time catching Sacramento. The Kings remained third in the Western Conference, but they gained a game on the Memphis Grizzlies. This is the most games over .500 I’ve ever been in my career, the highest seed I’ve ever been in my career, so there’s a great sense of excitement. During a first-quarter timeout, the Kings paid tribute to longtime radio play-by-play announcer Gary Gerould, who called his 3,000th game on Sunday in a road win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Sabonis had 23 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Kings (37-25), who will play the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday in a back-to-back. They won again Friday night, finding a way to fend off the Clippers in a 127-126 victory before a record-setting sellout crowd of 18,111 at Golden 1 Center. He became just the third player in franchise history with a streak of eight or more 30-point games, joining Tiny Archibald and Oscar Robertson.
The LA Clippers lost their fifth straight game to the Sacramento Kings on Friday night. Check out the recap here and share your thoughts.
He scored 21 points, along with three rebounds, three assists, and a steal in 30 minutes. Although he was -5 for the game, he had the best two-way game from any Clipper. The game was ultimately decided by a (pretty weak) foul call on Covington, who made contact with Sabonis as they both went for a rebound. He shot 6/11 from the field and 3/8 from three. He did have five turnovers, which hurts, but the Clippers as a whole only had seven, so the turnovers were not the difference in the game. As Gordon was about to be trapped by two Kings’ defenders, he threw the ball across the court to Westbrook, who was wide open.
