North Texas weather: Tornado watch in effect Thursday (KERA News)

Tornadoes, large hail up to 3 inches and damaging winds up to 75 mph are possible this afternoon and evening. In addition to cancelling after-school activities, Liberty Christian School offered an optional early dismissal.

Severe weather is forecast for Dallas, Fort Worth and North Texas Thursday with a tornado watch and possible baseball-size hail and damaging winds.

A severe thunderstorm watch is currently in effect until 7 p.m. The last time a major tornado hit Fort Worth was nearly 23 years ago this month, when an F2 twister destroyed parts of West Seventh Street and battered downtown. A new warning was put in effect for Grayson County until 5 p.m. At 4:04, a severe thunderstorm was located near Bells, 8 miles east of Sherman, moving east at 50 mph. [timeline released Thursday](https://www.weather.gov/fwd/), the main line of storms were expected to develop west of the Metroplex around noon Thursday and reach the Dallas-Fort Worth area between 4 and 9 p.m. At 5:27, a line of severe thunderstorms was located from Alvord to Boyd, moving east at 40 mph with 60 mph wind gusts and nickel-size hail. According to Fano, there was also a possibility of some scattered storms developing anywhere from noon to 4 p.m. Radar indicated the storm had hail up to the size of ping pong balls and 60 mph wind gusts. Just before 5, a severe thunderstorm was located over Cool and Mineral Wells, moving east at 45 mph with 70 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. In Millsap, officials reported a fire station lost part of its roof to wind damage. Damage to trees and outbuildings was reported near the city of Necessity. In Pickton, in Hopkins County, roof damage was reported to a house along Texas Highway 11 at FM 269.
