The country music star dropped his album, "One Thing At A Time" on March 3.

"To come back here and do this for a bunch of kids, when he could have done it, my gosh, at any arena in the country or world and made made a ton of money off of it." "But the bottom line is, if he didn't do that, I think we're done." "He didn't have to do this, and for him to do it, I think says a lot about Morgan's heart." While the Eagles were down 3-1 in the sixth inning of the 2021 state tournament, Wallen popped his head into the dugout to fire up the team, who didn't know he was there watching. Ranking Every Song on Morgan Wallen's 'One Thing at a Time' Album (Taste of Country)

This isn't a review of Morgan Wallen's One Thing At a Time album as much as it is a dissection. Here are all 36 songs ranked with explanations and clips.

"Last Drive Down Main" — "Last Drive Down Main" opens with a hook that's among the least memorable on this album. "Wine Into Water" — One song had to be last, and "Wine Into Water" is it for us. "Had It" — When One Thing at a Time was announced, we wrote that because Cuban-American rapper Alex Eskeerdo Izquiedo was a co-writer, this song would "lean hard into (Wallen's) hip-hop influences." "Hope That's True" — Sonically, "Hope That's True" stands out as a quasi-beachy heartbreak song on One Thing at a Time. "Dying Man" — This closing song wraps the album with a story of redemption in the arms of a good woman. while "Me to Me" (five songs later on the album) is an uptempo bop that asks a girl to bet on him. Eric Church)" — Wallen and his hero Eric Church team up for "Man Made a Bar," a song that takes the story of God's creation one day further. "I Deserve a Drink" — "I Deserve a Drink" is a real conundrum that strives to capture the feeling of a man longing for a drink he knows he shouldn't have. "One Thing at a Time" — At its best, One Thing at a Time delivers funky guitar lines over Wallen's heartbreak. "'98 Braves" — If you had to cull One Thing at a Time Down to 12 songs, "'98 Braves" would make the cut. "Sunrise" — Should Wallen choose to perform large portions of One Thing at a Time live, he'll need to memorize a heck of a lot of lyrics. "Last Night" — The lyric that bumps "Last Night" up to No.

Maybe it’s coincidence that the song opens with a guitar intro nearly identical to “Born With a Beer in My Hand,” but it feel more like Wallen is bringing the listener full circle. Country lyrics are known for their clever wordplay and this song is no exception, as Wallen hopes to put their problems behind them “and turn this wine into water under the bridge.” “Even the devil don’t know this kind of hell,” he sings convincingly. It’s pure pop — so much so that it feels like it should be played back-to-back with Kelsea Ballerini’s similar ear worm, “Heartfirst.” Except since it’s Wallen, there’s no joy, only the acknowledgement that if he’s going to have to give up his ex, he can’t relinquish his cigarettes and liquor too. “I’ve been tryin’ to drown these demons, but damn if they don’t swim,” he sings as the knowledge that the one he loves is with someone else sinks in. An interpolation of The Allman Brothers’ “Midnight Rider” includes several lyrical references to “one more silver dollar.”

Release Day Guide: Nicki Minaj, Morgan Wallen, J-Hope (Billboard)

New music releases from Nicki Minaj, Morgan Wallen, J-Hope and more.

The Man were more than a decade into their run as a successful, festival-ready alt-rock band when their single “Feel It Still” crashed the top 10 of the Hot 100, became inescapable on pop playlists and turned the band into Grammy winners; the group enjoyed a well-earned victory lap with the smash, then took a few years off to plot their next move. “El Merengue,” the new team-up from dance superstar Marshmello and reggaeton sensation Manuel Turizo, begins with some subtle synths off in the distance, as if the song is being transmitted from another planet — and when the track fully kicks in, it charms and provokes movement without ever overpowering the listener. J-Hope accomplished a ton as a solo artist in 2022, from his bold Jack in the Box project to his prominent performance at Lollapalooza, and the BTS member uses new single “On the Street” to express his gratitude toward the fans who helped make it all happen. Both artists are hungry, and bonus points to Cole for expressing as much: “You see a top 10 list, I see a Golden Corral.” “Hell, man, I’m goin’ nowhere / And gettin’ there lightnin’ fast.” The song is about romantic redemption — one of the primary themes of One Thing at a Time — but also provides a glimpse into Wallen’s mindset, as he grappled with being a magnetic vocalist and the biggest new country star of the past half-decade while also making personal missteps and being mired in endless controversy. 1 — and a public fallout made its success taste bitter — Wallen’s epic new full-length prods at his frustrations and attempts at self-improvement while delivering some of the most agreeable country tunes you’ll hear this year; his reputation is still debated, but Wallen is no longer stuck in neutral.

Review: Morgan Wallen's 'One Thing At A Time' (Rolling Stone)

Morgan Wallen Offers a Lot of Partying, but Not Much Introspection, on 'One Thing at a Time'. The controversial country-pop megastar had 36 songs to do some ...

“World likes to rear back and throw a few stones/So boy wants to throw a few stones of his own,” he muses, seemingly getting ready to warm up his pitching arm. Wallen’s lyrics mostly focus on bars and beers and whiskey, and women who are often unavailable, whether because of recent breakups or other attachments; the songs he’s co-written and selected for One Thing frequently take the Sia-tested route of using a central metaphor as a fulcrum for more precise observations. This megadose of Wallen doesn’t only ensure that One Thing at a Time will be lodged at the top of the charts for a while — alongside Dangerous, which is currently at Number Five on the Billboard 200 — it also reveals his preferred musical and lyrical tropes, as well as his fondness for simple, slippery vocal melodies that easily stick in listeners’ brains.

Morgan Wallen: One Thing at a Time (Pitchfork)

Modern country's prodigal son returns with a 36-song album that says a whole lot of nothing.

When Ernest asks what Wallen did as a teen to inspire his polarizing reputation on the ballfield, Wallen gives a knowing smirk as he chews his Skoal: “Just doin’ the same thing I would do today.” “I take a lot of pride in what I am,” sang Merle. All the while Wallen seemed mentally fatigued and physically uncomfortable, as if the most important lesson he learned from his experience was that a lot of people are watching and it’s best not to make any sudden moves. Lucky for them, these thoughts arrive to him in great, bountiful harvests so that all his albums are incredibly long, resulting in a thick catalog of frothy, familiar country anthems, spilling forth like a bursting keg to flood the Billboard charts. As of this week, more than two years later, it’s still hanging around the [Top 5 albums](https://www.billboard.com/charts/billboard-200/). Then a month later he got caught on video using the n-word while stumbling home drunk over the weekend, and he quickly became something even bigger.

The polarizing country singer wastes no time acknowledging his flaws on the follow-up to his 2021 blockbuster, "Dangerous: The Double Album."

“One Thing at a Time” is a roller coaster of an album — much like the last three years of Wallen’s life have been. He also issues a mea culpa on “Wine Into Water,” telling a girlfriend that they should “get to the bottom of these problems” instead of going to bed angry. However, at his core, the Tennessee native remains a country boy. The reflective ballad “Thought You Should Know” is an ode to his mother, to whom he apologizes for “makin’ some bad decisions” on his road to success. Nor is he kissing any woman with a pulse at a college bar. He simply dropped a new album — and unfortunately, it’s damn good.
