'Elden Ring' Finally Announces Its DLC Expansion, 'Shadow Of The ... (Forbes)

FromSoftware has now just announced Elden Ring's DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, in a new post on social media:

Sekiro, for instance, never got DLC, and it’s not a sure thing for big releases anymore the way it used to be essentially a guarantee. But given that fact that it’s riding what appears to be Torrent, it may just be the player. It’s just good that they’ve said something, as at a certain point, everyone was wondering if they’d simply move on to Armored Core and not do DLC at all. While it is “in development,” we have no date or time window for it. The DLC is classified as an “expansion,” and while that can mean many things depending on the developer, usually expansions are a step above smaller DLCs, significant content additions. I suppose this could be a player Tarnished character, as you can make them look like essentially whoever you want, but it could also be a DLC NPC that is somehow important to whatever story FromSoftware is crafting here.

Elden Ring DLC: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion announced (App Trigger)

FromSoftware has announced the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring, the first news on DLC fans have gotten for the successful game.

It’s still early in the year, so a holiday release for Shadow of Erdtree may not be out of the questions. Although many were hoping for God of War Ragnarok, the Game of the Year award in fact ended up going to Elden Ring at this past year’s The Game Awards. Elden Ring has become a massive success, not only commercially but in the online world as well. Three days after at 3 AM is admittedly a funny time to make the announcement, but it’s better than nothing obviously. Elden Ring just passed 20 million copies sold in its first year, something not all that surprising after the hype the game amassed during its development with George R. The DLC has most likely been in development for a while as studios don’t make announcements the day they are approved (no kidding).

Let Me Solo Her Reacts to Elden Ring DLC Announcement (Game Rant)

Developer FromSoftware recently took to Twitter to confirm that an expansion to the Game of the Year-winning title Elden Ring is in development, ...

Those who explored the story threads concerning Mohg and Malenia will be familiar with that name, and players who sought the help of Let Me Solo Her know well the wrath of the latter boss. Of course, simple chronology means little in the worlds constructed by FromSoftware; Dark Souls’ Artorias of the Abyss DLC took place long before the events of the main game and was accessed by way of time travel. Let Me Solo Her only had a two-word response to the announcement, but “so hyped” likely surmises the sentiments of all FromSoftware fans at the moment.

FromSoftware announced the first Elden Ring expansion, something it had been hinting at for a couple months.

Elden Ring shook the industry almost one year ago, and even though it didn’t exactly coincide with its anniversary, FromSoftware celebrated the event by announcing the RPG’s first big expansion.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC: Who Is Miquella? (Den of Geek)

Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has just been revealed, and many early fan theories point to a big potential role for a character named Miquella.

[Mohgwyn Palace](https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Mohgwyn+Palace), underneath Caelid. [Empyreans](https://eldenring.fandom.com/wiki/Empyrean) (people with the potential to become gods). [Miquella](https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Miquella) is a secondary character that is usually only mentioned in Elden Ring conversations and item descriptions. However, Mohg’s plan failed (which was probably for the best). Speaking of Malenia, she was Miquella’s other burden because, for all her strengths, her body was ravaged by [Scarlet Rot](https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Scarlet+Rot). While we’re on the subject, is that really Miquella in the first place, or are eagle-eyed fans being trolled by the game’s typically playful developers? We will just have to wait and see. This item was part of Miquella’s first attempt to cure Malenia of the Scarlet Rot, although it didn’t work. At the moment, the prevailing theory is that this mysterious person is none other than Miquella. Maybe the DLC’s title is surprisingly literal, and those are actual shadows are falling off the Erdtree. Fans have wasted no time concocting theories, though one of them certainly feels more substantial than the rest.

Elden Ring Fans Think DLC Art Shows Two Trees, Not One (TheGamer)

Elden Ring's DLC key art may feature two trees fighting each other, such as the Haligree and Erdtree.

And given that Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 both explored the past in their DLC, revisiting old ideas isn't off the table—we could very well enter a dreamland in Elden Ring, especially if Miquella is the focus. All we know is the name of the DLC, with the key art giving us our only look at it so far. Their theory goes that [Godfrey's corpse](https://www.thegamer.com/elden-ring-how-to-beat-godfrey-elden-lord-guide/) has not only infected The Lands Between, but the afterlife, and it'll be up to us to put him down once again— [Miquella is here](https://www.thegamer.com/elden-ring-fans-convinced-miquella-dlc/) because of a prayer they made, possibly the one mentioned in the Golden Epitaph great sword, "O brother, lord brother, please die a true death." The idea goes that we'll enter Miquella's dream and find Mohg's vision of the Haligtree taking over the Erdtree coming true, thanks to Mohg corrupting Miquella. As for the decaying, charred tree we see, that is possibly a result of Godwyn's death-blight corruption. This ties into the two trees because u/Sketch99 believes the one with golden sap dripping from it to be the Helphen, a Lampwood that guides the dead as mentioned in Helphen's Steeple Greatsword.

'Elden Ring' Finally Announces Its DLC Expansion, 'Shadow Of The ... (Forbes)

FromSoftware has now just announced Elden Ring's DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, in a new post on social media:

Regardless, it would be an exploration of a character that was not given much screen time within the game itself, but whose presence looms large over the landscape of Elden Ring all the same. So yes, this is the Miquella of “Malenia, Blade of Miquella” fame, and it’s possible we will end up learning way, way more about them, if not possibly playing as them. We don’t have much lore on Torrent from the game itself, but perhaps we’re about to get some. Cursed to be forever young, he created the Haligtree to allow himself to grow to be an adult and to purge the rot from Malenia. “Miquella, the brother of Malenia, is one of the Empyreans. Elden Ring was 2022's game of the year, but up until now, it didn't have any DLC. That's about to change with this new update.

You can optionally encounter Miquella in a slumbering cocoon state, but beyond that, he is in ever-present figure throughout the lore of the world. The expansion, titled [Shadow of the Erdtree](https://www.inverse.com/gaming/elden-ring-shadow-of-the-erdtree-dlc-expansion-release-date-leaks), has no release window as of yet. Miquella famously had the power to compel anyone to adore him, and enact his will because of this love.
