Star Wars: Jon Favreau On How Much Longer The Mandalorian Can ... (Game Rant)

The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau weighs in on how much more steam the Star Wars series has in the tank as season 3 approaches.

Due in no small part to the excellent worldbuilding and stellar character portrayals, tie-ins with The Mandalorian might weaken the appeal of future standalone projects, as fans saw with [The Mandalorian](https://gamerant.com/tag/the-mandalorian/) chronicles the adventures of the lone Mandalorian Din Djarin in the aftermath of the fall of Darth Sidious' Galactic Empire. And so these characters potentially could be with us for a while, and I really love telling stories in their voice, and I love the way the adventures unfold and I'm looking forward to doing much more." How this will play out with newer shows like Ashoka might decide the franchise's future on the small screen. “And though we'll have resolution over time with these characters, I think that how these characters fit into the larger scope and scale, but it's not like there's a finale that we're building to that I have in mind." The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau has weighed in on his much-acclaimed Star Wars project and has revealed how long he believes it can last.

The Mandalorian: Season 3's Focus Shouldn't Include Cameos (CBR)

The Mandalorian has enough weight to carry on his beskar-armored shoulders without providing a backdoor pilot for the next Star Wars series.

[Bo-Katan will play a major role](https://www.cbr.com/the-mandalorian-season-3-bo-katan-kryze-focus/) in the upcoming season, and for good reason. Din Djarin will have plenty of battles to fight in Season 3, and he'll need allies to fight them. [the Mandalorians' history](https://www.cbr.com/the-mandalorian-star-wars-mandalore-canon-history/), they have become a fractured people owing to a combination of politics, war and dogma. Seeing familiar faces is great for fans in those moments, and introducing new characters is important, but it's a big galaxy. Bringing in bounties is hard enough considering the sort of people who usually end up with a price on their heads. Portraying all of that over the eight-episode arc of Season 3 will be hard enough without the distraction of pulling in other established franchise characters. [Star Wars: The Mandalorian](https://www.cbr.com/tag/star-wars-the-mandalorian/) saw its share of exciting cameos in its first two seasons. Din Djarin will have a lot of responsibilities going into Season 3, most significantly helping to restore Mandalore to some semblance of its former glory. While these guest shots and cameos were met with great enthusiasm among Star Wars fans, they largely distracted from the narrative more than they added to it. Yet Ahsoka and Boba's inclusion, while exciting, simply established the larger universe without serving the overall narrative. This is good news since Din Djarin has enough storyline of his own without having to service the next Star Wars series. Djarin was tasked with taking the foundling Grogu back to the Jedi while also seeking out other Mandalorians.

Disney always does a great job of creating the perfect amount of anticipation for their shows, and they once again marketed this season of The Mandalorian well. This clip is less than a minute, but it shows the Mandalorian explaining to Greef Karga some of the reasoning behind why Grogu is still following him around. We also get to see that Din Djarin will return to Mandalore to regain the confidence of his fellow Mandalorians, and that Grogu’s force powers are increasing yet again when he vaults an enemy out of a cave. There are a few more revelations in this official trailer that weren’t revealed in the teaser from above. Disney has released several snippets of the show leading up to the premiere, such as a teaser trailer, a full trailer, and a short clip taken straight from the show. Viewers have enjoyed seeing a greater expansion of the Star Wars universe through the exploits of Grogu and Din Djarin, and now the moment of their father-son reunion has finally arrived.

Why The Mandalorian Goes To Mandalore In Season 3 (Screen Rant)

The Mandalorian season 3 trailer shows a decimated Mandalore, but the planet may have a larger role in this season for Din Djarin and Grogu.

[Mandalore will play in The Mandalorian season 3](https://screenrant.com/mandalorian-season-3-mandalore-history-planet-clone-wars-recap/), but the full story of its destruction may finally be revealed. In Mandalorian culture, the person who wields the Darksaber is the ruler of the Mandalorians. Because Din Djarin bested Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian season 2, he is the rightful owner of the Darksaber. If that needs to happen, The Mandalorian season 3 will provide context for what the ritual does in the eyes of the Mandalorians. Per the Armorer in The Book of Boba Fett, the only way to be redeemed is by visiting the living waters beneath the mines of Mandalore. It was explained by Din in The Mandalorian season 1, episode 8 that being a Mandalorian is not a race, but a creed that is taken very seriously by its people.

There Is No Ending Planned For 'The Mandalorian,' Which Seems Bad (Forbes)

This was fully on display with the central new Star Wars trilogy, which was not designed a coherent arc, but rather each director of each film was given license ...

And I also wonder about Pedro Pascal, as given how high profile he’s become in the wake of both this show and now The Last of Us, I’m wondering if he’s going to want to keep that helmet on for years and years to come as other offers come up. But based on where we’ve already seen The Mandalorian go, I’m not sure if this strikes me as a series that should simply exist forever. Now, we are headed into a continuation of Dave Filoni’s Rebels storyline with Bo Katan, the Darksaber and the idea of who is supposed to be ruling Mandalore. The Mandalorian has been a bright spot in Disney’s Star Wars line-up, but I do worry that some cracks are starting to show. This was fully on display with the central new Star Wars trilogy, which was not designed a coherent arc, but rather each director of each film was given license to do whatever they wanted. I love for these stories to go on and on.

Grogu Serves As The Bridge Between Mandalorians & Jedi (Screen Rant)

The Mandalorian season 3 may be exploring a possible reconciliation between the Mandalorian clans and the Jedi through Din Djarin and Grogu.

The partnership between Din Djarin and Grogu hints at a new future that could feature collaboration between Mandalorians and Jedi. While Grogu gave up his chance of training as a Jedi with Luke Skywalker, it doesn’t mean his journey as a Jedi is over. It’s known that Din Djarin will be traveling to a destroyed Mandalore to seek redemption for taking off his helmet; it is unclear if it will just be him and Grogu making the trip or if other Mandalorians will be joining them. Din Djarin has the Darksaber, which is supposed to unite the different Mandalorian clans, making him their de facto leader. Now that Grogu has rejected the ways of the Jedi and returned as a foundling, he is just as much a Mandalorian. Treaties were later established, restricting Jedi interference on Mandalore; these were still in place during [Star Wars: The Clone Wars](http://screenrant.com/tag/clone-wars/).

Jon Favreau Says 'The Mandalorian' Season 4 Will Not Be the End ... (Star Wars News Net)

We know from the end of The Book of Boba Fett and the trailers for the third season that Grogu and Mando are now back together after spending some time apart, ...

In this interview, he confirmed that not only is the fourth season not going to be the last, but that he hopes that this story continues for a long time — in fact, he has no end in sight so far: He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white. And that’s part of what you get to do in television that you don’t get to do in movies; with movies, you build up to it, everybody sees it, everybody talks about it, and then they wait. “You have a character, you have two different cultures that – a lot of how the Mandalorian armour was described to me, as I talked to the people at Lucasfilm and Dave Filoni, is that one of the theories is that technology was developed in order to combat the abilities of the Jedi, that they don’t have these natural abilities but have to fight these in an asymmetric battle, and you have to be able to make up for what your deficiencies are. “The goal is that we have enough things happen each episode that everybody wants to jump around the digital kitchen table and talk about, and argue about, and guess to what is going to happen next. “So they’re not completely standalone, they do have a continuity to them, and we definitely do discuss and talk about how we flip these cards over and what’s available to us as storytellers from season to season. We inherited the designs from Dave and his team, and then we wanted to show what happened and we make some allusions to the Purge of Mandalore; in The Book of Boba Fett we show a montage of the destruction. So, I think the fun part of it is that it’s a big conversation and people are excited. We saw a quick glimpse in The Book of Boba Fett, but from what we’ve seen in the trailers, we are now going to spend some quality time on it. And you have this warrior culture that couldn’t stop fighting amongst themselves, and so the planet was turned into a wasteland long before the Purge and the Empire. Star Wars Secretly Teased A Huge KOTOR Canon Return For The ... (Screen Rant)

The trailer for The Mandalorian season 3 shows Mando clutching a special helmet, which could originate from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

The events of Knights of the Old Republic are incredibly important to Mandalorian history and thus, with Mandalore’s Mask they can come back into play. It was passed down from one Mandalore to the next until the last known bearer, Canderous Ordo in Knights of the Old Republic, after which it was lost to time and legends. Another would be Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian Jedi and creator of the Darksaber. The appearance suggests that this could be the legendary Mandalore’s Mask, a ceremonial war mask and a symbol of Mandalorian leadership. Specifically, the seminal video game series Knights of the Old Republic is a favorable conduit for relevant content, and The Mandalorian season 3's trailer has teased a huge return. From the introduction of Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back to now, Mandalorians have evolved immensely, and are now among the most important elements of the Star Wars franchise.

The Mandalorian Era Needs Force-Users As Villains (Not Just The ... (Screen Rant)

With Grogu's growing power in the Force ahead of The Mandalorian season 3, the show's enemies can't just be Moff Gideon and the Imperial Remnant.

As such, if it isn't Jedi the Mandalorians can face off with, some other group of Force-users will need to be introduced as threats to the Mandalorian people during this era. Although the Jedi were the ultimate victors in the aptly named Mandalorian-Jedi War, the warriors proved themselves to be incredibly worthy opponents, having built their armor and defenses specifically to counteract the tools of the Jedi such as their lightsabers. Favreau's comment about the opportunity of Mandalorians fighting Force-users needs to be paid off. However, given the timeline where the Jedi are virtually extinct and Luke Skywalker has only just begun to build his new Jedi Order, those Force-users will likely be enemies of the dark side. [Empire](https://www.empireonline.com/tv/news/jon-favreau-why-mandalorian-grogu-reunited-in-book-of-boba-fett-exclusive/), showrunner Jon Favreau pointed to the canonical history of the Mandalorian people and what that means for the present: "Historically, Mandalorians developed all of those tools and armor and weapons to be able to counteract the Force abilities of Jedi.
