Franklin's empire is in ruins, but he's hellbent on rebuilding. A recap of “Fallout” and “The Sit Down,” episodes 1 and 2 of season 6 of FX's 'Snowfall.'
She invites Jerome to dinner and pleads with him to stop the fighting, as he and Franklin are the last two Saint men standing. Gustavo has the DEA on his back, Rubén has the KGB waiting for answers, Teddy is eager to return to the CIA, Franklin is in severe debt, Louie and Jerome are meeting roadblocks around every corner, and there’s a literal countdown happening in Veronique’s womb. He leaves the diner infuriated, retreating to what he knows best: plotting his next move. Back from Miami, where she met with her mother’s ex for help cleaning the money Franklin stole, Veronique tells him to listen to Cissy and repair things with Jerome and Louie. Gustavo takes them to the tunnel the next day and receives a call from Teddy, who has found Parissa in jail after police found her wandering the streets with a head injury she sustained trying to escape Rubén. Once Franklin is able to talk to Kane himself, Kane demands that Franklin get back at the people involved in his shooting, adding one more thing to Franklin’s to-do list. Veronique, against her better judgment, agrees to use her contacts in Miami to clean the money but urges Franklin to make it right with his uncle (not that Franklin is in the right state of mind even to consider this option). He shows up with LAPD and stops Dallas and Black Diamond after the drop with Deon. Teddy is also trying to clean up the mess he made since we last saw him. A true man about his business, Deon is candid about his lack of loyalty to anyone and agrees to buy at the lower price, but emphasizes that he’s not interested in being tied up in the family drama. Next, he goes to the hospital to speak with Kane. Season six picks up immediately after Franklin’s violent play, and we find out that he made off with $3.4 million in cash and product and is determined to rebuild his empire.
'Snowfall': Damson Idris & Dave Andron On Crafting The Perfect Ending, Not Saying Goodbye.
There’s a tradition in this genre about how anti-heroes stories have to end and I felt like we had to do something that subverted that a little bit but stayed true to our show and who Franklin is. When you look at the pieces on the board, there’s this game of survival and who is going to give me the best chance of getting out alive. I was 23 or 24 when I started on the show and now I’m 31 which is like wow! What he always wanted was a family and he thought with Lucia he was going to get it but he realized she was not that person. His money really is the only goal and he’s willing to turn against anyone Jerome, Leon (Isaiah John), Louie— even his mother. He says, “I’m ready for this and I’m ready for anything.” There’s nothing he’s not prepared to do. I think the evolution of that has been part of the fun and trying to find the unique idiosyncratic ways to do it with Franklin and let Damson really play. I was like, no, no, he’s the white dude and the government so he’s the bad guy. But then we realized at a certain point that the love for Franklin was so great that if he was on Team Franklin, people were Team Teddy. When you think about the evolution of that character, and then see him now after he’s risen so high and now has his back against the wall, you’re gonna find out what is he capable of. And, just in comparison to how I played him before, Franklin was someone who was a daredevil who would just dive off a cliff and he didn’t hit any rocks at the bottom. The Season 6 premiere titled “Fallout” begins with a reminder of who is affected by the drug epidemic then and now which goes well beyond dealers, users, and all others involved directly by choice.

In 'Snowfall's Season 6 premiere, Franklin (played by Damson Idris) goes to war with family — read our recap.
“F–k Teddy, f–k the CIA and f–k the government that supported them. If you thought Jerome was going to sit back and let Franklin run all over him, you’d be wrong. Teddy let her live, not out of the goodness of his heart, but because couldn’t be bothered to kill her since she wasn’t a threat to him. Although Deon didn’t want to get in the middle of a family squabble, his main concern was getting his bread. At first, she was reluctant to do it, wishing he would have done things the legitimate way. With a hefty sum in his possession, that shouldn’t be a problem.
Lewis chatted with Complex about 'Snowfall' coming to an end with Season 6, fans misunderstanding Aunt Louie, and working with Damson Idris.
It is a very traumatic experience that Black people have in this country and in the inner cities, so to be a part of the storytelling, the reenacting, the revisualizing of that trauma, it can weigh heavy on the soul. Aside from that, I hope that people can see Louie as a full human being and find a way to see her, to really see her. I was like, “This is crazy.” They really are not happy with Louie, but I think even in last season, Franklin snitched on Louie, and I’m like, “In what world is that okay?” I like to think that at some point, either in some of those shows or in the future, some shows will be talking about Snowfall and pulling from the things that we did. She told Franklin, “Don’t do this,” or “do this a certain way.” He didn’t listen, and because of that, now here I am bleeding out on the ground. Can you talk a little bit about playing that human aspect of the story on the show? He’s super creative and collaborative, and he’s also very silly, so we have a good time on set, and it’s been really, really a privilege to not only witness his brilliance, but also be a part of it, and to support that and to watch him and learn and grow from him as well. You are not who you used to be, and I’m not who I used to be, so this relationship is over.” Now the question is, can they heal things? She outsmarted him, she did the thing that he never thought she would do, and this is like, “But of course I did.” She has built a relationship with Teddy over the years, and why shouldn’t she? Over the course of time, after he couldn’t see her value and he couldn’t give her what she needed for her to feel successful, for her to feel valued, that was really disappointing for her and kind of sad. Unfortunately, Franklin couldn’t see her value, or he didn’t want to see her value, and Louie, in spite of that, was able to see her own value. People need me to show up as much as I need everybody else to show up in order for the whole thing to work, because it’s so collaborative.

In episode one of 'Snowfall' season six, Franklin Saint is more alone that ever -- and he's more desperate.
The anger of that very interaction fuels Jerome’s next move, one where he connects with Beau and his LAPD buddies to pull over Black Diamond and Dallas and steal the money that they were bringing back to Franklin, but it doesn’t end there. If you examine the current dynamic of the Saint family, you may be able to argue which side is in the wrong and which is in the right. As shown through Jerome’s attack on Black Diamond and Dallas, associates on both sides are going to have to tighten up and stay two steps ahead of the other side, in order to make it to the other side. Bodies will drop, money will be lost, and more drugs may be stolen, but the smoke from it all will only attract attention they don’t want and lead to their downfall. That hurt brought the anger that fuels his decision to steal from them and dare Jerome to go to whatever lengths he feels necessary to get back what was once him. Franklin’s decision to rob Jerome and Louie certainly came from a place of desperation, but it also came from one of hurt. “He truly is isolated and one by one the people that love him are turning their backs on him,” he said. Along with the loss of his massive fortune, Franklin also experienced the loss of trust and family-like support. At its best, the Saint family thrived as a unit and sought to build up their drug operation in Los Angeles, and at its worst, they went down different paths without interfering with each other’s goals. He also has a stash house for the drugs in a location that only he and his girlfriend Veronique know.

Snowfall is now in its sixth and final season. And the doubleheader premiere sets the table for an epic standoff with Franklin and Jerome.
Franklin’s so short on allies, everyone wants him to smooth over the relationship with his family to stay alive but his line in the sand is the strongest line of the episode: “So it’s business when I’m bending over but it’s personal when you gettin’ it?” No one gets over on him, not longtime foil Teddy and not his uncle. There’s no truce to be had because Jerome killed one of Franklin’s dual shooters and ran off with the plug. Franklin’s rolling with a pair of contract killers, Black Diamond and Dallas, who are a far cry from the loyal, level-headed Peaches, and as interested in his long-term prospects as they are in staying out of his drama: not at all. And the doubleheader premiere sets the table for a Breaking Bad style reunion with our infamous Saint rifling through his uncle’s stash to rob him of the money he feels he’s owed from Jerome (Amin Joseph) and Louie’s (Angela Lewis) betrayal. Saint is constantly on the lookout for his opps, but can’t be solid on who will reveal themselves a barrier to the bag. Snowfall is now in its sixth and final season.
