Bridges wasn’t available to play after his trade from Phoenix in the blockbuster for Durant wasn’t approved in time, and the league determined he shouldn’t be penalized for not playing in a game for which he wasn’t eligible. Brunson had a basket and 3-pointer that started a 13-3 finish to the period for the Knicks, with his 3 making it 93-83. “Obviously seeing him play in college and he was amazing and I knew he would have a long career in the NBA, but I didn’t think it was going to be how he’s playing now,” said Hart, Brunson’s teammate at Villanova. 19 for a broken right thumb, should be cleared for contact during practices over the All-Star break. The Knicks beat the Nets twice in the 2019-20 season, which Durant missed while recovering from Achilles tendon surgery. Brooklyn never lost to the Knicks when Durant or Irving played.

Knicks Take Down Nets Thanks to the 'Nova Boys | The Knicks (The Knicks Wall)

Jalen Brunson put on a masterclass and Josh Hart kept showing MSG crowds why they traded for him as the Knicks beat the Nets at home.

Immanuel Quickley also helped on both ends off the bench, with 14 points, five boards, and five assists. After a back-and-forth exchange, the Knicks kept the pressure up and started to pull away at the end of the third quarter. Brooklyn was unable to channel that first-half firepower, as the Knicks remained unrelenting on both ends of the court. Brooklyn only had 13 points through the first eight minutes of the fourth quarter, until both teams put the reserves in for garbage time, but the lead and game were already safe. After playing every fourth-quarter minute in his Knicks debut, he played a bulk of the fourth quarter once again and helped the Knicks pull away. Brunson had his third 40-point game of the year on a 15-of-21 shooting clip, including a 6-of-9 showing from beyond the arc, with five assists, a block, two boards, and no turnovers.

Knicks: Jalen Brunson ties franchise record after 40-point eruption ... (ClutchPoints)

Jalen Brunson has now tied Stephon Marbury for the Knicks franchise record of the most 40-point games in a season.

Hart exploded for 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting, to go along with four triples, four rebounds, two assists, a steal, and no turnovers in 28 minutes off the bench. The 26-year-old exploded for 40 points in the game en route to tying a Knicks franchise scoring record. At this point, it’s no longer surprising that Jalen Brunson is breaking record after record for the Knicks.

The win streak is over. Nets lose, 124-106, to Knicks (NetsDaily)

It finally happened. The Brooklyn Nets lost to the New York Knicks, 124-106, breaking Brooklyn's 9-game win streak against their crosstown rival.

Newcomer Josh Hart made an early impact for the Knicks off the bench in the second, dropping 12 points in 12 minutes on a pair of threes and some nice cuts to the rim. Ben Simmons got a short stint in the fourth quarter and was subbed out at the 7:30 mark after two turnovers, one of which came after setting an illegal screen for Cam Johnson for the offensive foul. But Brunson could not be stopped, hitting a nasty stepback three in over Joe Harris and then another one over Cam Johnson for his 14th and 17th points of the quarter. So some of that pressure is on Spencer to get to the rim, also drive and kick. At the 4:19 mark, Vaughn emptied his bench, indicating that the Nets were conceding for their second loss in three games. “The rebounding piece we’re always concerned about so didn’t want Ben to be the lone big out there,” said Vaughn about Simmons’ declining playing time. All-Star Julius Randle had 10 points and his co-star (and All-Star snub) Brunson pitched in 10 as well in the first. “They were scoring so we’re taking the ball out and playing a set defense, so that’s a big part of it. The big piece of it is are we gonna be able to break guys down and create drive and kick opportunities to shoot threes. I got to put them in the game, I got to see what different lineups feel and look like and see where the holes are in order to really get a good sense of that.” The last time New York was able to take down Brooklyn was way back in 2019, the first year that Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant were Brooklyn Nets. But it’s always what the group is gonna look like at the end of the day.

Watch Live NBA: Brooklyn Nets at New York Knicks, 7:30 PM EST ... (NetsDaily)

The Brooklyn Nets look to rebound from a heartbreaking loss to the 76ers as they head to MSG to take on the Knicks.

The Knicks are 24th in efficiency while the Nets are second. Dorian Finney-Smith will likely get the initial assignment in trying to slow the All Star forward down. The Nets have a ton of rangy, athletic defenders, and Jacque Vaughn will throw all of them at Julius Randle. When the Nets get those few opportunities, they’ll have to cash in. The Knicks are right on the Nets tail, sitting 3 games behind them in 7th place. The Knicks are seventh in the NBA in threes attempted per game this season, and the Nets have made it a point to take more threes now.

Quentin Grimes is a Crucial Piece For the Future | The Knicks Wall (The Knicks Wall)

Quentin Grimes was a late first-round selection by the Knicks in 2021 and was an exciting prospect, based on his offensive versatility and stout defensive ...

The Knicks haven’t exactly been able to pinpoint and acquire great shooters recently as other teams have, so Grimes for the time being is shouldering a good amount of that load to be a consistent threat from deep. The Knicks’ recent acquisition of Josh Hart definitely improves the team, as he is a winning player who can be an asset on a young team. As mentioned previously, Grimes has had to overcome a lot on the court in his early career and the Hart acquisition throws another obstacle his way. Grimes is still one of the better shooters on the team, but ideally going forward, you’d like to see him be more consistent and at least be in the upper 30s percentage-wise from distance. Hart was excellent down the stretch, so it’s hard to complain, but it just makes it that much more difficult for Grimes to continue to develop. Inadvertently, the ‘Bockers’ unwillingness to part ways with Grimes amps up the pressure for him to be great in whatever role it is that he plays. You might consider this nitpicking, given that essentially all of his other offensive numbers are up from last year, but the Knicks did refuse to include him in a deal to acquire Donovan Mitchell, so the expectation is that Quentin will prove the front office right and be a consistent contributor, particularly from three-point range, where he’s most needed. Coming out of high school as a five-star recruit and a blue-chip prospect, this was probably not the path Grimes envisioned but he has worked his way into a prominent role on a good young team on the rise in the NBA and has kicked off his career well. Grimes, despite a promising start to his career in the orange and blue, still has ample work to do before solidifying himself as a cornerstone piece of the Knicks going forward. Will Grimes continue to take the necessary steps forward to continue to be an asset to the Knicks? The Knicks in recent memory have done very well with their late first and second-round picks and Grimes is a big part of that reputation’s growth. Even in his rookie year, Grimes dealt with various injuries and Tom Thibodeau’s rigidness and reluctance to play young guys, which combined to limit him to 46 games.

Brunson’s performance on Monday occurred at a time when the Nets seemed to be mixing and matching with various rotations. The Nets received a decent return for Durant and Irving, but none are at the level Brunson is playing at. Two days later the trade was in the works and by last Monday it was official with Irving being sent to Dallas for Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith. In the middle of the afternoon word came out about Irving seeking a trade with the idea he preferred to join the Lakers to be reunited with LeBron James. There were an array of dazzling moves in the 15 shots Brunson made, which marked the third time he hit 15 field goals. 28, the Nets beat the Knicks for the ninth straight game, and it seemed they were merely biding their time until Durant returned from his sprained right knee.

Duo creating long-awaited buzz as Knicks finally start to take back city (New York Post)

If it felt like this 124-106 Knicks win before a sold-out Madison Square Garden contained a little something extra … well, it did.

Lots of guys score points and don’t impact winning the way these guys impact winning. “Everything these guys do is for the team.” Knickanova fans are quickly starting to get the idea, too. But it’s amazing to see because I know the work he puts in.” Brunson was referring to Josh Hart, of course, Brunson’s old running mate at Villanova, and when Brunson declares someone will become a fan favorite it is a subject he knows well: the Garden has already made a habit of chanting “M! Josh Hart brings a winning mentality to the Knicks (Posting and Toasting)

The Knicks head coach has opted to play his new favorite son in crunch time since his arrival.

Josh Hart should help transform that and the Knicks have the best net rating in the NBA in the last two games. Hopefully, his arrival is a wake-up call for players to step up or they won’t be closing games. Watch how he moves without the ball, chases down rebounds, and communicates on defense. The trust was already there from day one and Hart made a huge impact in front of the Garden faithful. Those type of players, they give your team heart…toughness…goes long way"— New York Basketball (@NBA_NewYork) Another member of the Knicks organization who probably had a similar reaction was head coach Tim Thibodeau.

Josh Hart proves why Knicks trading for him was genius move (Daily Knicks)

En route to taking the Nets down 124-106, the newly acquired Josh Hart dominated Brooklyn, dropping 27 points alongside some stellar defense.

If New York can win its third in a row against Atlanta, it could be a huge momentum boost heading into the final stretch of the season. Hart has been an incredibly solid player all season long and he has even showcased how good of a bench option he is for the Knicks. Barrett is nearly through his fourth year in the league and it’s time for him to start playing more consistently. Both fans and coaches are starting to notice it and Monday was no different, as Barrett scored just four points on 2-of-8 shooting from the field in 24 minutes. This is New York’s fourth win in its last six games and its first W over the Nets since 2020. It’s still an impressive win for the Knicks.
