Celtics Vs. Grizzlies Takeaways: C's Depth Too Much for Memphis to ... (NBC10 Boston)

The Celtics pulled away in the fourth quarter to earn their fourth consecutive victory, 119-109.

[Jaylen Brown](https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/celtics/jaylen-brown?b&chrcontext=WBTS) (facial contusion), [Marcus Smart](https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/celtics/marcus-smart?b&chrcontext=WBTS) (right ankle sprain), and [Malcolm Brogdon](https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/celtics/malcolm-brogdon?b&chrcontext=WBTS) (right Achilles soreness), plus Tatum struggling to find his shot, the rest of the roster stepped up. Three of those shots came in the first half. He again scored in double figures with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field (2-5 3PT). They outrebounded the Grizzlies 60-45, including 14-3 on the offensive boards. His five offensive rebounds were more than the entire Grizzlies roster combined. Muscala was added as a depth piece, but he made a significant impact even with the Celtics frontcourt at full strength. They kept it going against the Grizzlies by shooting 21-for-51 (41.2 percent) from 3. It also was their fourth straight game with 10 or more 3-pointers made in the first half. His 20 points marked his highest total since he dropped 24 against the Detroit Pistons back on Nov. Sam Hauser has found his 3-point stroke as of late and he continued his hot streak on Sunday. Before that marquee matchup, here are our takeaways from Sunday's win, which brings the C's to 41-16 on the season. The Celtics' secret weapon tied his career high with six made 3s on 11 attempts.

Celtics' Jaylen Brown feeling better, 'taking it day to day' (ESPN)

Celtics guard Jaylen Brown said Sunday he's feeling better after suffering a facial fracture but is "taking it day to day right now."

"Still having a little bit of pain but feeling better from the first couple days. Tatum inadvertently hit Brown in the face with an elbow, sending Brown crashing to the floor and back to the locker room, where he was initially ruled out with a facial contusion before later being diagnosed with the fracture. "It's been tough to sleep the first couple of days, but I'm all right," he said, before adding with a smile, "It's going to take more than a Jayson Tatum elbow to take me out." So, I don't think it'll be too long. Brown said he will be wearing a mask -- something he hasn't done before -- and said the process of getting one fitted has been "fun." "Had to get a couple scans, see a bunch of specialists and different doctors to get all the info.

Championship experience a major selling point for Boston Celtics ... (Hardwood Houdini)

The major selling point for the Boston Celtics to add possible buyout market wing Danny Green is his championship experience says Boston.com's Conor Roche.

He’d be great Hauser insurance, but the Cs would need a lot more than who is available to cover an injury to any of the starters. “Green, 35, would not only give the Celtics even more perimeter shooting than they already have, but he would also give them championship experience, something that they lack. Green, who was traded to Houston as part of the three-team trade that sent Luke Kennard to the Grizzlies, Eric Gordon back to the Clippers, and awkwardly landed John Wall back on the Rockets following recent criticisms of the franchise, could be bought out given the lack of a fit with his new rebuilding employer.

Williams is the sixth player in franchise history to reach this feat. The lead only grew once Tatum returned to the lineup following that timeout. He rounded out his box score with three assists and one steal during 32-plus minutes of action. Boston owned a one-point lead heading into the final frame knowing that it would open the quarter without Tatum for the first handful of minutes. Their buckets, combined with a cutting dunk from Grant Williams, pushed the Celtics ahead 96-91 before Memphis called for a timeout at the 6:52 mark. It’s what takes place while he’s off the court that is the question.

Role players fuel Celtics' win over Grizzlies, 119-109 (pressherald.com)

Derrick White and Sam Hauser combine for 43 points as Boston overcomes an off-game from Jayson Tatum and the absence of three key players.

We know what our standard is and that’s what it’s about and we don’t live up to that standard on the road.” … Guys have to be even more confident together on the road. “It’s big, especially as a role player,” Pritchard said of his start. “We have some of our top dogs out now and it’s just an opportunity for guys to showcase what they can do,” Hauser said. We try to do our best to do whatever we can to help the team win.” We’ve got a lot of guys that can do a little bit of everything.”

What Ja Morant said about 'fine in the West' comments after loss to ... (Boston.com)

Ja Morant stands by his "fine in the West comments" and says that confidence is the reason why the Grizzlies are where they are.

“The confidence I had when I said that, is the confidence that got us to the point we’re at now, being a top team in this league.” Obviously you can’t discredit JB with him playing on both sides of the ball and you’ve got everybody else coming out and playing a type of way. “I feel like them being balanced and them having two guys who lead them on the offensive ends. I said what I said, and I mean that,” Morant said. What were his thoughts on how people took the comments and ran with them? Denver is 4.5 games in front of Memphis.

Four takeaways as Celtics beat Grizzlies 119-109 for 4th straight win (masslive.com)

BOSTON — The Celtics allowed the Grizzlies to get back into the game, but as coach Joe Mazzulla pointed out, opposing teams are going to go on runs.

But with the Bucks right behind them in the standings, the C’s will need to finish strong to secure that top spot. That allowed the Celtics to work the glass, even when their 3s started to cool in the second half. But the C’s take on the Bucks on Tuesday in a battle between the two best teams in the East. While the Celtics were careless early with six turnovers, they pulled away in a 35-20 second quarter that gave them the halftime lead. But the C’s didn’t falter from there as they pulled away for the 119-109 win over the Grizzlies on Sunday at TD Garden. But the C’s worked hard to corral their misses as they also had 13 second-chance points.

Still, the Cavs offered a bigger opportunity off the bench in all likelihood and had similar money to throw at the shooting guard with part of their mid-level exception. The Lakers and Suns were also interested in bringing him aboard after he agreed to a buyout with the Rockets on Sunday. He only suited up in three games for Memphis before the team elected to upgrade him with Luke Kennard from the Clippers on the wing. [Celtics](https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2023/02/celtics-injury-report-malcolm-brogdon-added-4-players-listed-for-sundays-game-vs-grizzlies.html) have missed out on a potential buyout target on the wing despite being a ‘frontrunner’ to sign him. Brad Stevens said the team would be looking to make a decision about their final roster spot in the coming days. Danny Green will reportedly sign with the Cavaliers over the Celtics (Boston.com)

Former Magic guard Terrence Ross will reportedly sign a deal with the Phoenix Suns. Barton and the Wizards are reportedly working on a buyout. Green is the second notable wing player to sign a deal after being bought out. Boston still has an open roster spot and it can offer buyout players $3.23 million as part of the disabled player exception it received following Danilo Gallinari’s torn ACL injury in September. Green’s 3-point shooting has taken a minor dip in recent seasons, though he’s still shooting at an above-average rate as he made 38 percent of his 3-pointers last season. Of course, Boston won’t get Green now.

Pritchard continues to provide clutch shooting off the bench for Boston. I'm committed and I want to help this team any way I can to win a championship and put a banner up. The C's backcourt depth has made that difficult with This whole thing was about me wanting to play because that's what I love to do. "Any minutes I get, I'm gonna play because I love to play basketball.

6 takeaways as Celtics beat Grizzlies and Derrick White continues ... (Boston.com)

The Celtics beat the Grizzlies on Sunday behind another big game by Derrick White, who continued a recent stretch of excellent play.

Robert Williams attempted a 3-pointer in the second half with the shot clock winding down — his first 3-point attempt of the year, and the fourth of his career. I want to help this team any way I can to win a championship and put a banner in, whatever that takes.” “That’s the beauty of this team,” White said. “So he brings an intangible dynamic to our offense and he’s continuing to grow on defense.” Since the start of February, he is shooting 53.6 percent from behind the arc, offering spacing and an outlet for drivers that makes the Celtics exponentially more dangerous. With offensive rebounding and — once again — a 3-point barrage that the Grizzlies couldn’t overcome, even though they crushed the Celtics close to the basket. The Celtics outscored the Grizzlies 63-36 from behind the arc and 13-8 in second-chance points. The Grizzlies finished with a 60-34 advantage in the paint. And I think that allows our guys to play with confidence and makes our team even harder to guard.” Superstars don’t get the credit they deserve when they do that and so, credit to him. Jayson Tatum had a tough shooting night, finishing 3-for-16 from the floor and 1-for-8 from behind the arc. “I just wanted to stay with it,” White said.
