Chicago Bulls Rumors: Team taking offers on Zach LaVine (Da Windy City)

We have already seen the likes of Kyrie Irvin, Kevin Durant, Mike Conley, D'Angelo Russell, Russell Westbrook, among others traded before the deadline ...

They hardly have the makings of a playoff roster, at this point. The Bulls don’t have enough talent to win a championship. The 2023 NBA trade deadline has already seen plenty of action to this point, with just a few hours to go.

Expect them to be active in the buyout market, which would necessitate them waiving a player to sign a new one because they have 15 guaranteed contracts.

But LaVine's offensive numbers over the last two months have returned to his All-Star level, which is why he could draw trade interest. The Chicago Sun-Times reported that the Bulls and Knicks held discussions for a deal centered on Zach LaVine. It would take significant first-round draft capital along with promising young players to even entertain parting with the two-time All-Star guard---if the Bulls reached that stage. LaVine has overcome a slow start to the first season of his five-year, $215 million contract that featured him on a knee management plan and getting benched by coach Billy Donovan. Trading any of the Bulls' "Big Three" could possibly be a soft reset, but it isn't being entertained for now. They also sit roughly $1.7 million under the luxury tax, which they have paid only once in franchise history.

Recapping the Chicago Bulls: Poor 3-point shooting — again ... (Chicago Tribune)

The Chicago Bulls, hours after standing pat at the trade deadline, shot just 19.2% from 3-point range in a 116-105 loss to the Brooklyn Nets.

Yet the Nets looked more composed than the Bulls. The Bulls finished 5-for-26 (19.2%) from 3-point range while the Nets finished 17-for-44. After sending Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks on Monday, the Nets dealt Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns early Thursday. But the opportunity was quickly squandered as the Bulls failed to pull ahead by more than four points before another Nets surge placed them back on top. He finished 16-for-25 from the field and scored a game-high 38 points but couldn’t provide a heroic bailout in the final minutes. - The Bulls bench failed to balance out a low-scoring night from DeRozan and Nikola Vučević (15 points), scoring only 30.

In the situation the Bulls find themselves in, this would be a high-risk, high-reward situation where he does solve most of their on-court problems but has notoriously brought more issues than he solves to most of the stops in his certainly unique career. He would lead Chicago in assists per game and has been an elite facilitator his entire career, but he would also lead the team in turnovers and is often knocked for his reckless play style. Especially considering the Bulls were in a similar spot a few seasons ago and made the splash move of bringing in two-time all-star center Nikola Vucevic to make a late-season push, that would eventually fall just short. Seeing that neither of these was accomplished, it’ll be interesting to see who takes the fall if things don’t go according to plan in the Windy City as the 2022-23′ season wraps up. It’s hard to imagine that AK and the front office could not have thrown a similar On the opposite end of the spectrum, Chicago sits ninth in the Eastern Conference, is led by a 33-year-old DeMar DeRozan, playing the best basketball of his career, and has a pending unrestricted free agent in Nikola Vucevic this summer.

NBA Twitter has a meltdown over Bulls' trade deadline decisions (Pippen Ain't Easy)

Although they appeared to be trending upward, the Chicago Bulls just blew a massive opportunity at the trade deadline to the dismay of fans online.

The Bulls will now have to put this all behind them tonight, as they take on a Brooklyn Nets squad that will be severely undermanned in the aftermath of trading away Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. This got the fanbase talking and ultimately reaching mixed opinions, but it all proved to be for naught in the end. It seems people are finally catching on to the act, however, as Arturas Karnisovas has accomplished nothing in Chicago despite claims he’d like to build a winning organization.

This roster was a joy to watch for a little bit, but it’s now to the point where things have gotten pretty clear. LaVine is a likable guy and a good player, but he’s not a great player. New York would be able to put together a pretty attractive deal, as well.

Can he help the Bulls run the offense? The Bulls would acquire a similar tier player as Lonzo Ball when healthy. The Nets have a sell-off right now, and the Chicago Bulls should be the first in line, like a neighborhood garage sale.
