Irving led the scoring for Dallas, which was without injured Luka Doncic for a third consecutive game.

As part of the deal, the Mavericks also agreed to send a 2029 unprotected first-round pick, a 2027 second-round pick and a 2029 second-round pick to the Nets, while Brooklyn agreed to send [Markieff Morris](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/markieff-morris-j4uvbWutmKDfJnLs/) to Dallas. Clippers fall short against Kyrie Irving and new-look Mavericks (Los Angeles Times)

Norman Powell scored 24 points, Paul George added 20, but Kyrie Irving and Dallas Mavericks held off the Clippers 110-104 on Wednesday,

Irving later shook Clippers reserve Robert Covington at the top of the key and found an open lane to the basket. I’m focused on the guys in the locker room and I have a great respect for everyone in the locker room. “Making sure that we’re in the right spots coming out of timeouts or just overall the flow of the offense. Dallas scored 40 points in the first quarter, then only 41 combined during the next two. Irving received a loud, and chilly, reception inside Crypto.com Arena upon touching the ball on the first possession, then missed two shots. Against the backdrop of trade talks and the buyout market that will follow played out a game that could be viewed quite differently based on your perspective. All the while the Clippers kept mulling their own options for how to optimize their tandem of [Paul George](https://www.latimes.com/sports/story/2023-02-02/nba-all-star-reserve-paul-george-kawhi-leonard-anthony-davis) and [Kawhi Leonard](https://www.latimes.com/sports/clippers/story/2023-01-31/los-angeles-clippers-chicago-bulls-nba-game-recap) to keep pace in a Western Conference that is getting stronger after the Phoenix Suns reportedly struck a deal for Brooklyn’s Kevin Durant late Wednesday. The team inquired about Charlotte guard Terry Rozier and big man Mason Plumlee in recent days while Russell Westbrook, traded to the Utah Jazz by the Lakers and expected to be bought out by the team, has interest in joining the Clippers should he become a free agent, though whether that interest is mutual remains to be seen. “What we’ve done over the last 10-11 games, that’s who we want to be. ... We do have enough to succeed and win, especially when our guys are playing, PG and Kawhi are playing at a high level. Also yet to be traded is Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet, the source of so much speculation. “It’s never going to be easy.”

Clippers vs. Mavericks Recap: A Spiritless Effort • 213hoops.com (213 Hoops)

The Clippers fell at home 110-104 to the Kyrie Irving-led Dallas Mavericks in a game they never led. Keep reading for a brief recap of the game. RECAP.

Whatever the Clippers do, they’re going to have some ground to make up considering other teams in the West have And what a sad way for it to end. Neither cracked my list for the Top 5 performers of this game, and for the Clippers, that’ll always be a problem. Meanwhile, Leonard essentially showed up for one quarter of this game and finished with only 18 points on 12 total shots in the game. Much like what we’ve seen recently, neither Paul George nor Kawhi Leonard was able to put points on the board during the fourth when the Clippers needed to stay in the game (lots of open shots by role players were missed, too), Ty Lue opted to remove Ivica Zubac from the floor to go small, and as always against Dallas, double-teams on the ball and slow rotations out of them allowed the Mavericks to capitalize from deep and put the nail in the coffin. Keep reading for a brief recap of the game.

How does Kevin Durant to Phoenix impact the Clippers? (Clipperholics)

Following a trade that sends the two-time champion, Kevin Durant, to the Phoenix Suns, the LA Clippers are officially on their last straw.

However, there is still time before the trade deadline closes for the Clippers to acquire an all-star talent. Now, it is safe to say that if a move isn’t made soon, the Clippers will slip back even further. Prior to the deadline, both of these teams were a barrier for the Clippers.

"That's kind of what went into the decision." He joined the team in Los Angeles and it's under discussion whether he will play Friday or Saturday when the Mavs are at Sacramento for a back-to-back. "The comfort level he feels with us, you could see it in the game. "You felt it the second they got into their first possession, just his motor." Irving had four rebounds and five assists in 37 minutes of what amounted to a dress rehearsal before Doncic returns to give the Mavs a powerhouse backcourt. The Clippers got within five four times but the Mavs held them off. They outscored the Clippers 21-9 to start the game, propelled by Irving's offense. He was part of a 13-0 spurt early in the game, scoring eight points on a jumper and back-to-back 3-pointers. Kawhi Leonard, who had two points in the first half, finished with 18. Early in the fourth, Irving fouled Paul George. "It felt good to get this debut out of the way," Irving said. "The most important thing that we stressed as a team was just don't force the ball to me.

All the players linked to the Clippers in trade rumors (Hoops Hype)

The Clippers are poised to make a trade before Thursday's trade deadline. This front office has made a mid-season trade every season since 2017-18 and that ...

They lack a veteran big man presence in the backcourt and Wood would be a solid fit for when they want to play five out. If the Clippers truly want VanVleet, they may have to pay a steep price since they wouldn’t be able to sign him in free agency. [Fred VanVleet](https://hoopshype.com/rumor/fred-vanvleet-the-likeliest-raptor-to-be-traded-clippers-suns-lakers-magic-and-timberwolves-interested/) may be the most talented player the Clippers have been linked to. The 35-year-old guard earns $22.7 million this season and is owed $24.4 million in 2023-24, which is only guaranteed for $14.3 million. What if they also require the Clippers to take back salaries like Otto Porter Jr. The Clippers should have enough assets to acquire VanVleet.
