The Heels had tried 543 foul shots compared to runnerup Wake’s 450 attempts among ACC teams, a difference significantly less than what Davis insisted was the case. Syracuse was awarded only 3 foul shots in that contest compared to 23 for UNC.

With only seven games left in the season, it is pivotal that the Blue Devils limit their mistakes and continue to find their identity behind Filipowski and Lively. To return to the promise and potential displayed during Duke’s matchup against the Tar Heels, the Blue Devils must continue to rely on their big men. The Blue Devils are not without issues that they must clean up in order to have a chance to come away with the victory Saturday. With only seven games left in the regular season, a road game against a talented ACC opponent provides Duke with the opportunity to prepare for the tough competition to come. To deal with Clark’s success in the paint, the Blue Devils must turn to the formula that largely carried them to victory against North Carolina last Saturday. Coming off a tough loss to Miami, the Blue Devils will hit the road Saturday for an equally formidable opponent in No.

Passive and disconnected in loss at Miami, where does Duke ... (Raleigh News & Observer)

Blue Devils beat rival UNC Tar Heels, but played poorly in ACC road game at Hurricanes, with turnovers, rebounding problems. Virginia next.

“It starts with the turnovers, right?” Scheyer said. “Rebounding is about going after the basketball, boxing out,” Miami coach Jim Larranaga said. Duke is now 2-5 in ACC road games with a trip to Charlottesville to play No. They are the team ahead of Duke in the ACC standings. “I mean, granted they are a good team,” Filipowski said. Miami finished with nine dunks and eight layups, a sign of how easily they got to the basket. We got to get our stuff together and stay focused.” They are the team in the top 25. This was the second time Duke has turned the ball over 21 times in a game. “This wasn’t as much about executing, to me,” Scheyer said. The other was Jan. Throw in that Miami’s starting center is 6-7 Norchad Omier and the fact that Miami won the rebounding battle 38-31 is more difficult to explain.

The difference in Duke was [Jeremy Roach](//247sports.com/Player/Jeremy-Roach-46035780) and the run he went on in the last month of the season, his ability to break down the defense, his ability to draw attention, his ability to finish at the rim and his ability to make shots. None of those things happened, and the consequence of that came in the style of a 2-5 true road record for Duke. As the final buzzer sounded to put Blue Devil fans out of their misery, centers Dereck Lively and Ryan Young's scoring totals sat at the top of the stat sheet, albeit at a rather underwhelming 11 points each. His 17-point total, partnered with 10 rebounds, earned him a smooth double-double and put him at the top of the score sheet for both Duke and Miami. Despite heading into its matchup at Miami on a high after defeating North Carolina 63-57 Saturday night, Duke’s showing in the Watsco Center was a highlight reel of the team’s biggest flaws. Sophomore forward Norchad Omier dominated the court with his strong shooting, landing both of his three-point attempts and making 54.5% of his shots from the field. Miami got the last word as it took down the Blue Devils Monday night.

They’ve been in a lot of games together but they’ve been in a lot of games with the experience they have in college. They play both ends of the ball and offensively, they spread you out. And for us, it wasn’t the same level of competing, and the same look. And they know who they are. And so for us, you do it by competing, you do it by being really together. If we’re able to, we have to earn our way there, and we have many games to win and to go, but if you have a chance to play in March, you’re playing a Thursday-Saturday game. But you have to come out at the same level no matter where you are.” To come out against a really good team, we have two road games this week against two of the best teams in our league. So it’s part of growing up and learning how to prepare the same way – no matter who you’re playing, no matter where the game is at. If you give any team, but a team as good as Miami, 21 turnovers and just layups and dunks in transition, it’s going to be a heck of a night for you. And that’s going to make it really difficult. The game was out of reach before halftime and the body language and effort exhibited after intermission was enough to age Duke's young coach significantly.
