NBA Odds: Spurs-Bulls prediction, pick, how to watch 2/6/2023 (ClutchPoints)

The Spurs and Bulls face off on Monday night! Check out our NBA odds series for our Spurs-Bulls prediction and pick.

While the number is hefty, I like the Bulls to cover this spread at home and continue their success. The injuries to their starters will continue to plague them in matchups where they can’t afford to get behind on the scoreboard. Caruso provides a huge boost for the Bulls on defense, so the return of Williams will be especially important as he is one of their best players on that side of the ball. The Chicago Bulls continue to fight for a spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race. They’ll be short a few ball handlers, so look for Jakob Poeltl to work the ball inside against the smaller Nikola Vucevic. The San Antonio Spurs come in to this game on the heels of an eight game losing streak.

Vucevic, Drummond come up big, Bulls beat Spurs 128-104 (The San Diego Union-Tribune)

Nikola Vucevic had 22 points and 12 rebounds, and the Chicago Bulls handed San Antonio its ninth straight loss with a 128-104 victory over the Spurs.

Coby White kept it going when he hit two free throws and fed Drummond for dunk after stealing a pass in the opening minute of the fourth. The Bulls led by 11 after the first quarter, only to have San Antonio get back into the game in the second. Two more losses and the Spurs will match their worst skid of the season. “It says a lot about him,” said Vucevic, whom the Bulls might deal rather than risk losing as a free agent after this season. With his second double-double in three games after being used sparingly, Drummond continued to make his case for more playing time. Nikola Vucevic could be playing for another team by the end of the week.

As the February 9 trade deadline approaches, former Gators Men's Basketball head coach Billy Donovan and the Chicago Bulls will have.

Therefore, the Bulls will have to improve their standing in the last 30 games to prevent losing a high-value pick. The inconsistency of the Bulls has made it hard for them to take the jump to the top of the conference standings. As it stands, Chicago will be keeping their core players around, while possibly trading a key depth player if they get the haul they are looking for. Even though the Bulls are open to trading Caruso, they have also been quite firm on their demands. It has been a tough year for the Bulls, compared to last season when they finished 46-36. One player that the Bulls have missed so far is Lonzo Ball, who has been out with a knee injury over a year ago and still is not close to returning.

The Bulls will now have to play in Memphis less than 24 hours from now. Much like we saw against the Trail Blazers, it was unselfish play and strong contributions from the role players that helped the Bulls finish strong. Andre Drummond found himself with 4 points and 6 rebounds in his first five minutes, while the second unit combined for 9 quick points in the first frame. Fortunately, DeMar DeRozan rattled off seven-straight points to end the quarter and help the Bulls regain a 90-85 lead heading into the final frame. A 12-point advantage became just 3 points heading into the locker room. If the Bulls have learned anything about the San Antonio Spurs, however, it’s that they will never go away.

Bulls win laugher vs. Spurs, but questions grow as deadline looms (Chicago Sun-Times)

The Bulls have won three straight games and four of their last five, but will any of that matter once the NBA trade deadline comes Thursday?

The Bulls built their lead back to 12 by taking advantage of turnovers and empty possessions, then expanded it from there. They let the Spurs gain some momentum and actually outscore them by eight points in the quarter. ‘‘I thought we were much more active defensively,’’ Donovan said of the turnaround. It was the Bulls’ third consecutive victory and fourth in their last five games. ‘‘I’ve preached the same message, even when I was in Detroit,’’ Drummond said of the looming deadline and the rumors surrounding it. Where they fell Monday was directly on the heads of the struggling Spurs.

Senior NBA Writer Reveals The Newest Bulls' Trade Target Before ... (sportsmockery.com)

This morning, senior NBA writer Sergio Rabinal revealed that the Chicago Bulls had shown interest in a new name as the trade deadline inches closer.

Johnson knows that this could be a grave mistake by the front office if they fail to get any value following the blockbuster trade for the Magic’s big man a few years ago. Given that Drummond is nearly out of the rotation entirely and hasn’t seen significant or consistent minutes in months, this one is a head-scratcher. With a career seven points and six rebounds per game in 15 minutes of action across his seven seasons, it’s a stretch to find where the value lies for the Bulls.

One decision the Bulls will make before Thursday's trade deadline is whether the fourth-year guard still has a future in Chicago.

I have to use different types of things to get to where I want to get to. “Coming into the summer, I knew that was something I had to work on. As the season has worn on, White also has shown flashes of his end-to-end speed. And every workout that I did on the floor consisted of ballhandling. But when I do get them I just feel like I’ve got to take advantage of them and show them what I’ve been working on.” I feel like from last year to this year he’s made some significant progress.” “You don’t want to be a guy out there that other teams will target. “Just every day during the summer, I worked out almost every day of the week,” White said. “I feel like I’m making a jump,” he said. White is set to become a restricted free agent this summer after being unable to agree on an extension before the start of the season. Ball’s season-long absence, along with others bouncing in and out of the lineup, left open opportunities White mostly has capitalized on this season. Back then, White appeared to be the odd man out of a crowded backcourt.

Bulls Would Need to be “Blown Away” to Trade Alex Caruso (bleachernation.com)

The Chicago Bulls are listening to offers on the veteran guard, but they would need to have their jaw hit the floor to actually move him.

With that being the case, the Bulls are right to ask for a haul, especially if their plan is to try to be competitive in the years to come. Not to mention, it’s not like the Bulls’ best chance to trade him is now. He is truly one of the NBA’s best defensive talents, and he will immediately elevate whatever team adds him to the rotation. We’d have to say the same thing about a potential offer from a team like the New Orleans Pelicans. While the Bulls would love to keep him a part of the long-term winning picture, another contending team might pay a premium to add him right here, right now. Or what if they put a guy like James Wiseman or Moses Moody on the table alongside a future first-rounder?

There were a ton of positives to takeaway from this game though with the younger players continuing to make slight progress and the bench picking up slack from the starters. It’s going to be an interesting next couple of days as the Bulls have two more games along with the trade deadline on Thursday. Drummond wasn’t the only player in double figures off the bench as Coby White continues his impressive stretch of play with 12 points and four assists. They outscored San Antonio by 19 in the final quarter and did so in quick fashion, allowing some of the bench guys to get minutes near the end. With DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine struggling for most of the game after a strong first quarter, it was two of Chicago’s centers who took the reins offensively. Chicago had a double digit lead at multiple points in the first three quarters but each time their opponent stormed back, even ended up taking the lead at a point in the third as it looked like it would be another tense night at the United Center.

In fact, they're often found in Chicago, amid a city of people who would prefer Michael Jordan over James in the classic "GOAT" debate. If he shot it, he should've passed it," Popovich said. James is a family man by heart, as shown by his long, ongoing wish to play with his oldest son, Bronny, in the NBA. James serves as an indirect spokesperson of the NBA, expressing his opinions on nationwide politics, social justice issues and NBA matters. "He's been an exemplary player, an icon of the league," Popovich said. His activism is arguably the most admirable point on his résumé. Simpletons often criticize his complaints to referees, on-court overreactions, and insistence on addressing political issues (editor's note: remember "shut up and dribble"). James has the highest upstanding values any figure of his acclaim could maintain. "He would probably would've liked to have done that a little differently---verbally, or the things he said. He's weathered all the questions that have been asked, especially at the beginning." Their relationship is built on mutual respect for the other's achievements, as they've created a historic player versus coach-battle over the years. They've faced off 41 times, of which James owns the most wins between the two (22).

Maybe the mediocre Bulls could send Zach LaVine to the Lakers (and for his own good). It might be time to rebuild on a better foundation.

[Patrick Williams](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/patrick-williams-OPoFPSs58KcCfehP/) is an enigma. [Coby White](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/coby-white-sMaLBnq5ceeeGMPE/) isn’t a difference-maker. [DeMar DeRozan](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/demar-derozan-1sVXxgSdLOq7XZwu/), headed to another All-Star Game, is going into the final year of his contract. [NBA](https://theathletic.com/nba/) team is either rebuilding or contending. [Spurs](https://theathletic.com/nba/team/spurs/) 128-104 on Monday night. [Lakers](https://theathletic.com/nba/team/lakers/) are looking to do? Vooch makes the most sense to trade, but dealing a guy on the last year of his deal doesn’t really fix the problems going forward. Is this a deal the Bulls are looking to do? They struck out on [Kyrie Irving](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/kyrie-irving-c9XLlxAFm6NG5ddD/), so why not take a chance on a big scorer who doesn’t come with a U-Haul’s worth of baggage? Now, I’m not against the Bulls existing as a team with a low ceiling as a playoff participant, but the continued mediocrity of this team has forced me to shift my thinking. He got paid and he has to realize that this Bulls team isn’t going anywhere. Can LaVine be the centerpiece of a contender?

The Bulls enter the NBA trade deadline at a crossroads (ESPN)

Chicago's Big Three isn't producing results, leading to speculation around the league that the Bulls might have to make a big move before Thursday.

[Andre Drummond](https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/6585/andre-drummond), one of the team's free agent additions this summer, has fallen mostly out of the rotation. LaVine reiterated his commitment to Chicago recently, stating he signed an extension because he wanted to be with the Bulls and that hasn't changed. "I'm not at a point to say, 'OK, this just can't work,'" he said. (Chicago was outscored by seven points in 1,206 minutes with that trio on the court last season). The Bulls closed January by blowing a 19-point lead in a loss to the [LA Clippers](/nba/team/_/name/lac/la-clippers), and then rebounded with a pair of home wins over the Hornets and Portland Trail Blazers, leaving them two games below .500 and in ninth place in the East. That percentage drops further when DeRozan, LaVine and Vucevic are on the court together. DeRozan, LaVine and Vucevic have played 1052 minutes together this season, fifth-most among trios in the NBA, yet the Bulls have outscored opponents by only 16 points in those minutes, a number that just rose into the positive last week. ET trade deadline](/nba/trade-deadline/) quickly approaching, the Bulls have not met their own self-imposed expectation. "And if we didn't have that good fortune, we'd be in the same exact situation we are in right now. DeRozan was named an All-Star again last week, shooting even better from the field (51%) and on 2s (52%) than last season. With a soft schedule in front of them, the Bulls had a chance to move up in a crowded Eastern Conference play-in race. In January, they dropped four games when leading by more than 15 points, tied for the most by any team over the past 25 seasons, according to research by ESPN Stats & Information.

While three games are too small of a sample size to confidently say he’ll be the starting point guard that Chicago has been lacking all year, it is an excellent sign of things to come. The former Illini point guard has stayed just as hot for the next two games. It was known that the Bulls were said to try a ‘point guard by committee’ with Ayo Dosunmu, Coby White, Alex Caruso, and Dragic until Ball’s originally scheduled return around the start of 2023. Coming into the season, the Bulls knew they were without Lonzo Ball, who assumed the point guard position for much of the 2021-22′ campaign. Last night may have confirmed who they’ll commit to or, at the least, provided hope and optimism for the position’s future. Memphis Grizzlies vs. Chicago Bulls Game Preview (Grizzly Bear Blues)

MEMPHIS: Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, Dillon Brooks, Santi Aldama, Jaren Jackson Jr. CHICAGO: Ayo Dosunmu, DeMar Derozan, Zach Lavine, Nikola Vucevic, Patrick ...

As many have pointed out for the Grizzlies, the struggles in the fourth quarter have stood out as a big reason for the recent string of losses. That was a big reason as to why the Raptors were able to come back on Sunday. The other focus of the Grizzlies is ensuring they do not get behind in terms of possessions. This is where the Grizzlies will win or lose tonight’s game, because if Memphis can match the productivity of the Bulls inside the arc, Bane and others can win the game with success from three. And while the Grizzlies and Bulls may be in different positions in terms of their outlooks for the rest of the season, both can benefit from as many wins as possible. Having Morant and Brooks back certainly helps, and Santi Aladama and Desmond Bane have been in excellent in the first half over the past few games. Next on the schedule is the Chicago Bulls, who much like the Raptors on Sunday, are a team who have some big decisions to make on and off the court over the next few days. Though the Bulls are more accurate from three, the Grizzlies make shooting beyond the arc a bigger area of focus. Here are a few ways the Grizzlies can earn a needed win: Memphis must contest has many looks as possible, and make sure that Demar Derozan nor anyone else starts to take over for a significant stretch. On the bright side for Chicago, the Bulls are 6-3 over their past nine games, and finally are running into some good injury luck. No, seriously, they rank among the bottom five in the NBA in points, fg%, and 3P% in first and fourth quarters over the past three weeks.

They are especially potent on the offensive glass where they rank second in the league in offensive rebound rate. Like Morant, Bane has continued to play well in spite of the team’s losses. Despite their poor play of late, the Grizzlies continue to have one of the most balanced teams in the NBA. The Bulls should keep things tight tonight even if they don’t come away with a W. His outside shooting could play a huge factor in tonight’s outcome given the talent of opposing center Jaren Jackson Jr. Considering the Grizzlies allow the sixth-most three per game, LaVine could be a huge factor tonight thanks to his outside shooting. The Bulls covered 55% of their games while 55% went under the projected point total. Memphis finds itself in the midst of its worst stretch of the season, yet they remain comfortably in second place in the West. Additionally, Chicago does a good job taking care of the ball – something that could be key tonight considering Memphis forces turnovers at an above-average rate. Although he is coming off a quiet 19-point outing against the Spurs, DeRozan continues to be incredibly consistent on a night-to-night basis. The Grizzlies covered 47% of their games while 55% went under. Chicago has fought their way back into playoff contention and is playing some of their best basketball of the season heading into tonight’s game.

Chicago Bulls: 3 trades to send Zach LaVine to the Brooklyn Nets (Da Windy City)

With the Brooklyn Nets reportedly interested in Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine, we look at three possible trades between the teams.

The above deal likely wouldn’t be enough to move LaVine, who started slow and is now playing good ball this year. In this first deal, the Nets would be giving up forwards Royce O’Neale and Joe Harris, along with veteran guard Patty Mills. But, the way this roster has played, the Bulls don’t appear to be gearing up for a title run anytime soon.

How the Trail Blazers Could Make the Bulls Deadline a Success (bleachernation.com)

The Portland Trail Blazers may lead to a deadline win for the Bulls even if Chicago doesn't end up trading anyone.

They have also been vocal about their willingness to trade wing Josh Hart, who is someone that could make a lot of sense as a 3-and-D wing in Chicago. There is always a world where they decide to make the pick fully unprotected in 2024 or 2025 to free up the availability of those other picks. And, considering they’re currently 11th in the West (and the Bulls don’t own a first-round pick in this upcoming draft), that sounds great to me! If the Blazers are truly as interested in a playoff pursuit and adding talent as the rumors suggest, they might have no other choice but to make the 2023 pick completely unprotected. Since it’s currently unclear which season the Bulls pick will convey, the Blazers can not freely trade any first-rounder since they run the risk of it being in the year after that pick conveys. Any fear of having to wait around for that pick, however (the Blazers are currently in a position AGAIN to keep the pick), could technically come to an end this Thursday if the Blazers get frisky.

Are the Chicago Bulls Really Ready to Re-Sign Nikola Vucevic? (bleachernation.com)

The Chicago Bulls acquired the big man two trade deadlines ago in exchange for Wendell Carter Jr., two top-4 protected first-round picks, and salary filler.

Unfortunately, it seems far more likely that #continuity will be the continued name of the game in Chicago. But I continue to fear that their reasons for keeping him around will be built on stubbornness and/or lack of a real direction. (Michael: The only thing I’ll add to all of the above is the TINY possibility that the Bulls are at least opening to trading Vucevic, but want the market to think they’re “Totally willing to hang onto him through the deadline and extend him this offseason.” In other words, maybe this is all about trade leverage. In other words, if the Bulls don’t want to risk losing a career year in the efficiency department for nothing, they either must trade him at this deadline or re-sign him in the offseason. I’m sure they could with a big offer, but should they give him that offer is the real question? If Vucevic signs a two-year deal at a relatively team-friendly cost, keeping him may very well be the smart thing to do (it allows you to add more pieces and maybe even have an easier time trading him down the road). Change is clearly needed, and Vucevic makes arguably the most sense to be part of that change. Also, the Bulls remain confident in their ability to re-sign Vucevic, who is having a strong season in his contract year. At best, they underestimated him and will have to pay for it. and two first-round picks to lose Vucevic for nothing would be harmful, and management appears intent on not letting that happen. Jump forward to the second full year of the Vucevic experiment and things have been a lot better … Not only did the big man struggle to hit the 3-ball at his same effective pace, but he also looked out of his element next to the team’s other All-Star talents.
