There are seeds planted for the final three episodes this season, including the cliffhanger of Spencer and Alex’s fate, but if “Ghost of Zebrina” is in fact a watery grave for the young couple, that too would merely be a waste. What Paramount seemingly forgot, is that they themselves had this information in one of the trailers they released before the show even aired. Timothy Dalton gets a little more screen time as the snake-like Whitfield, but so far, he’s more of a caricature, spouting venomous charm more than genuine danger. Funnily enough, this was yet another moment that could have had some gravitas to it, as the reveal of her name should have had an impact. The irony being that Paramount was trying to keep this reveal a secret (even at one point kindly asking Den of Geek to not reveal the character’s full name). The bloody aftermath of her rage is quite a sight to see. It is also not lost on this writer that with “Ghost of Zebrina” being the longest episode so far, should provide more content to write about, but ironically, that’s not the case. Arguably, the most intriguing story thread is that of Teonna (Aminah Nieves) escaping the horrors of the Residential school that kidnapped her and other indigenous children. Sheridan even had another character speak of the fortitude it took for Claire to commit suicide, that no one should call her a coward for doing what she did, but with Emma’s death, not even her son shed a tear. The emptiness of her existence, despite still having her son Jack (Darren Mann), is too much to bear and she tragically ends her life. [Taylor Sheridan](https://www.denofgeek.com/taylor-sheridan/), Paramount’s country-fed celebutante, has been able to tap into something with his rabid audience that transcends political affiliation, gender, and age, and he’s been able to do it consistently for the better part of half a decade. Elsa describes the purgatory-like melancholy the Duttons feel as a “tedium of healing.” Tedium being the key word.
1923's People We Care About body count climbs two, possibly three notches in this week's episode. Sheesh, being attached to the Duttons really isn't good ...
“I killed the nun who beat me, and I killed the nun who raped me,” she says. While Cara is out in the carriage later, she runs into Don Whitfield, who introduces himself as her new neighbor and who asks for a good time to swing by and meet Jacob. “That is the first good news these ears have heard in months,” she says, beaming as she hugs a very relieved Elizabeth. “We don’t speak, you don’t touch me,” she says, warning him against hate, which “takes your whole heart, every bit of it.” She’s actively choosing not to hate Banner because she wants to have room to love Jack, but if he won’t do the same, she says, “take me to town. “I am Otter from the Kills Many Clan,” she says in her native language. At the School From Hell, Father Renaud is alerted to the deaths of Sister Mary and Sister Alice, who killed with an envelope opener to the chest. “This one’s leaving the harbor,” he says. “Spencer, I don’t think those are supposed to leave the harbor,” she says. Spencer wakes to realize that the engines aren’t running, and he rushes upstairs to find Lucca has hemorraghed or something equally gross and bloody during the night. He finds that option in a man named Lucca (played by American Gods’ Peter Stormare) looking for deckhands for a trip to the Suez Canal. “And for my young brother, it will be his last.” Which probably just means he settles in that state — after all, thanks to Lightning Yellow Hair’s Cara drives to the post office — with two guards — and sees newspaper: Electricity is coming to the valley.
All things considered, life could be a lot worse on the Dutton ranch on 1923. Jacob (Harrison Ford) is horribly injured, but he's still alive and occasionally ...

1923 delivered the shocking death of yet another Dutton as it returned from a mid-season break with Episode 5 on Sunday (Feb. 5).
He's in cahoots with the man who attacked them, Banner Creighton (Jerome Flynn), and it's clear that Cara can sense something is off with her new neighbor by her frosty response when they meet. Teonna is on the run on foot in very difficult terrain, but she has the skills to survive, and she manages to stay safe until she's run across by a native man who is familiar with her father. Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves) killed Sister Mary (Jennifer Ehle) at the end of Episode 4, and we find that she also killed her other abuser, Sister Alice (Kerry O'Malley) with a letter opener before fleeing the Indian School. Episode 5 of 1923 Season 1 opens with the Duttons stuck in a cycle of grief, anger and pain after the attacks that killed John Dutton, Sr. Spencer Dutton and his bride-to-be, Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) have decided to return to America in haste after getting the news of the attack, but they're unable to find traditional passage that's fast enough. 5), and yet another Dutton's life hangs in the balance by the end of the show.

[TV](https://www.pajiba.com/tv_reviews/) [Dustin Rowles](https://www.pajiba.com/staff/dustin-rowles-1.php) Things for Indigenous people were awful in America (and continue to be) but somehow, She encounters Hank (Michael Greyeyes), an alumnus of another boarding school, and he is going to take Teonna and hide her from the school leaders who want Teonna dead (they have already murdered her closest friend). Without the captain of the boat, Spencer cannot prevent it from crashing into a ghost ship (a ship abandoned by its passengers and crew). That’s the question lingering at the end of this week’s episode when the captain of the tug boat (played by Peter Stormare) taking Spencer and Alexandra from Africa to the Suez canal dies while manning the boat.
The "Yellowstone" prequel show "1923" returns to Paramount+ with Episode 5, "Ghost of Zebrina."
Back at the ranch, Jacob is attempting to climb the stairs alone, but visibly struggles. The doctor informs him he can eat solids from tomorrow, and that the cowboys need to help him walk around. As Spencer, Alex and Lucca are sailing, they see a larger ship, which troubles the captain. As Alex lightens the mood, Spencer thanks her, once again happy that he fell in love with her. It seems other cowboys, like those from the Strafford ranch, are heading off to Hollywood as the movie industry is booming. Teonna admits her crimes to the man, who takes her side. Continuing to plot against the Duttons, Banner Creighton and Don Whitfield meet to discuss mining the land above Yellowstone. It suddenly pounces, forcing her to go on the run, climbing to high ground for safety. Renaud knows it was Teonna, and starts beating and interrogating one of the remaining girls, Baapuxti to find out where she went. On the morning of their trip, Spencer had planned to leave without Alex, telling her the journey is too dangerous. The vacation is over, "but the adventure is just beginning." Jack and Elizabeth have both seemingly recovered from their respective wounds, though Jack is on alert, taking the spark away from their relationship.

She's a member of the Have we seen the end of the Indian school? One minute, Spencer and Alex were in love and making the most of their odd journey. Jack may be young and inexperienced, but so are we all until the first time we have to stand on our own. They only have a limited time to set things right at the Yellowstone, and one person who is there now can make the difference. It seems like Whitfield is going to push the agenda with Cara and Jacob, and if he comes to the house, he'll see that things are not as they should be. The real shocker comes from developing characters who quickly solidify in our hearts and then wiping them off the map, as was done with Elsa. Well, it doesn't look like Spencer is returning, and the pieces add up to any sliver of hope in my silly mind being just that, silly. Spencer would have still taken the trip with Lucca. Donald Whitfield is just a greedy businessman willing to do anything for money and power, but Banner might be biting off more than he can chew. She was left with nothing, but she's driven by her desire to love and will to survive. I've got just as much right to hate the man as you do, but I don't because hate takes your whole heart, every bit of it.
In 1923 episode 5, Spencer and Alex make a dangerous journey and the Yellowstone struggles to survive. Read our complete recap right here.
Michael Balderston is a DC-based entertainment and assistant managing editor for What to Watch, who has previously written about the TV and movies with TV Technology, Awards Circuit and regional publications. This finally snaps Jack a bit back to reality, as the two finally say their vows, in front of God if not an actual priest and the law (though Cara spies from afar to bear witness). Spencer chooses the former (thank goodness because the two of them have been a highlight of the show). The final scene of the episode is back in Montana, as Cara once again heads to the post office. As they leave, he tells Banner that by the spring he believes Cara will be ready to sell the Yellowstone. The next morning, to Teonna's surprise, the wolf is gone and a herd of sheep are beneath her. She is able to get on top of a rock, but the wolf decides to wait her out. He manages to secure a spot on a tugboat captained by a man named Luca (Peter Stormare). For Banner's loyalty, Whitfield gives him a house with a gas stove, electricity and running water, telling Banner he is a master now. He and Alex (Julia Schlaepfer) are doing what they can to make their way back, arriving in a port city to book passage back to America. Unfortunately, she is alone in the wilderness, and at night a wolf comes for her. As Elsa (Isabel May) says in opening narration, the family on the ranch have settled into routines, and not for the better.

The last shot of the episode is of their boat upturned and Spencer and Alex nowhere in sight. The loss of her husband proves to be too much for John's wife, Emma (Marley Shelton). The episode brought more tragedy to the Dutton family — but also offered up a bit of hope for the future as well.

- Cara got more good news at the local post office: Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) sent a wire informing her that he is returning home from Africa. - Speaking of death: After killing two of the nuns who tormented her at the Indian School, Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves) fled the scene of the crime and set out on a long journey back to her own people. - Someone mentioned that many cowboys have left the area and headed to Hollywood “to play cowboy in the silent pictures.” But, er, this is 1923, right? - Meanwhile, back at the Yellowstone Ranch, Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford) continues to make a remarkably speedy recovery for a man who had nine bullets pumped into him. (James Badge Dale) during the ambush led by Banner Creighton (Jerome Lynn), there really wasn’t much reason to keep her around, given her relative lack of consequence in the central narrative. After Taylor Sheridan disposed of two characters — Claire Dutton (Dawn Olivieri), James’ widowed sister, and Shea Brennan (Sam Elliott), the grizzled leader of the wagon train — with self-inflicted gunshot wounds in 1883, it probably should not have come as a surprise to see someone checking out in similar fashion here.
After a midseason hiatus, it's a bit lackluster to return to see the Dutton's reinforcements heading to Yellowstone at a snail's pace. A recap of “Ghost of ...
Eventually, a telegram is sent to a one-room post office serving Paradise Valley and the ranchers who live just past the route of the mailman, beyond the electricity that powers modern life. The question is: when she holds the telegram in her hand, is Spencer just embarking on his adventure home — the one the episode teases, again and again, will be his last — or is he already drowning in a dark and swirling sea? He’s no longer the acting head of the family, but by the end of the episode, he’s something of a consigliere, advising Cara on what moves Banner might be making. Banner is a rich man now by way of his alliance with Donald Whitfield — the miner who wants Yellowstone for gold. Our seafaring trio hasn’t made it far before the captain perishes of what I assume is TB, leaving Alex and Spencer to fend for themselves, which they cannot. It upsets me the most, and thus I’d like to get it out of the way, preferably in one headlong breath. Resolved that he doesn’t have seven weeks to waste on what will ultimately be only a third of his journey, he seeks out a less salubrious alternative to the RMS Franconia (which, for all y’all history nerds, will be requisitioned in WWII and retrofitted as a troopship). Teonna cleverly erased her tracks with branches resourcefully tied to her waist, and 2.) I’m doubtful the pasty deacons Renaud dispatched can hack even a few hours out of doors. The young and the old are dying, drip by drip, riding their horses in the direction of their own unadorned graves. In fact, everyone in 1923 is dying all of the time. We already know four months have fallen from the calendar between the black day Cara Dutton wrote to recall Spencer from the bush and the day his fiancee finally read the note aloud to him. And so I expected 1923 to return from its winter hiatus with an invigorating time jump — the promise of its favorite son’s urgent homecoming.

On the other side of the world, Spencer – the seeming heir apparent and a man with violence in his soul – is attempting to get back to America quickly to avenge the attack on his family. He’s a veteran, used to violence and more than willing to carry it out. Probably the former over the latter, but if she has to give birth to someone (speculation), she’s likely safe from death. That would seem to indicate she’s related to Thomas Rainwater. The only bright spot is Spencer’s blooming love with Julia. Fans and viewers were last left with Banner and Donald Whitfield attempting to formulate a plan to steal the Jacob Dutton’s land through force.

He puts out a "Mayday" call, grabs the wheel, and attempts to right the ship. As she anxiously reads it with an emotional mix of joy and relief, the camera pans over a wide shot of the ocean. While a smug Banner sits in the back seat, the shady businessman exits the car and approaches Mrs. In light of the cattle business becoming unsustainable, he wants to meet with Jacob and discuss some progress-embracing opportunities. Having just received the happy news that Elizabeth and Jack are expecting a baby – having apparently wasted no time consummating their makeshift marriage – Cara's headed back to the post office. As part of the deal, Whitfield hands a slack-jawed Banner the keys to a beautiful, modern home outfitted with plumbing, electricity, and a gas oven. She accepts the offer, and just in time, because Renaud has ordered a trio of priests to find her and bring her back to the boarding school. His urgency to get home is somewhat deflated when he sees the boat set to tackle the first leg of the trip. When the trio encounter one such abandoned vessel, a hulking freighter, the old man pilots his creaky craft dangerously close to it in some sort of superstitious tribute. This leads to a shady meeting with a shadier sailor (Peter Stormare,) an old man with a nasty cough and a tugboat in need of a deckhand.
