UNC basketball struggles to find its shot against Duke as Tar Heels ... (Raleigh News & Observer)

North Carolina Tar Heels, Hubert Davis faced Jon Scheyer, Blue Devils in first of 2 conference showdowns with eye toward NCAA March Madness.

“We got to push it more with with the pass instead of the dribble,” Love said. It was Johnson’s deflection and steal that stopped a Duke fast break and led to Carolina’s first fast-break points in the game with 12:14 left. But Black’s offense carried the Heels through a rough start to the second half. Black’s 3-pointer from the right corner was their only basket in their first 10 shot attempts. His shot missed and Duke’s Jeremy Roach gave the Blue Devils a two-possession lead with his driving layup on R.J. Carolina again fell into a habit of launching 3-pointers in the second half instead of attacking the basket. Black, who made all three of his 3-pointers in the second half, had a chance to put UNC ahead with a minute left on a wide-open attempt from the left corner. “We’ve been in that position a lot, we just didn’t make the plays we needed to make.” Dereck is one of the best, if not the best, even if he doesn’t block it, his length and his athleticism can alter it.” And we shot three, zero in the second half. Davis pointed out that Armando Bacot, who leads the ACC and is 27th nationally in free-throw rate, according to Ken Pomeroy, only shot two free throws. It was the third such scoreless stretch that lasted three minutes or more in the game.

UNC vs. Duke: How to watch, channel, streaming, odds (Tar Heel Blog)

The new era of the Carolina/Duke rivalry starts tonight.

You can also listen to them on [GoHeels.com](https://goheels.com/watch/?Live=3731&type=Live), [The Varsity Network](https://thevarsitynetwork.com/audioapplink/source/university-of-north-carolina), and [TuneIn](http://tun.in/poviY). That won’t matter, of course, if the Heels don’t come ready to play, because the team that played against Pitt Wednesday night will not win tonight. On Sirius XM, the THSN feed will air on channel 81. The day is finally here: the Tar Heels are on their way to Durham tonight to take on Duke in the first game of the two-game series. Truth be told, I don’t feel like either team has played to their full potential, and I’d even go as far as to say that this Duke team doesn’t look like the Duke teams of old. The Heels have bested the Blue Devils in four of the lsat five games, and they are still leading the overall series 143-115.

UNC vs Duke: Three Things Learned (Tar Heel Blog)

If there's a theme that has developed in Carolina's losses over the season, it's that when Armando Bacot isn't a factor in the game, Carolina is going to lose.

The problem here isn’t that it was just circulated amongst students, but that it was actually printed out thousands of times and distributed to media members as well, to the point where it was published many times over on the internet. [doxxing ](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dox)and it speaks to the level of control that Duke actually exerts over these kids. Here’s the thing: there’s a grand tradition of rival students finding out the number of a star player and getting it circulated to where they crash their phones. The thing is, we don’t know the fullest extent of the damage this will do yet because of the way these were distributed. Apparently digging up personal information on Armando Bacot, Leaky Black, and the father of Will Shaver and publishing it on said cheer sheet. When Carolina needed a big basket late out of a timeout, he had an open look for three and just whiffed on the shot. They’ve gotten so concerned with these sheets they clearly don’t care about how it looks for a group of Carolina students to actually invade College GameDay on their campus. Even if Bacot isn’t shooting, getting it to him down low forces the defense to adjust and opens up options, something that was seen time and time again. He handled the ball for a shot on three straight possessions, hitting a basket, making a bad drive and getting bailed out with a foul, and then missing wildly. The Cameron Crazies ceased to be funny a while ago. Giving up on Bacot having any sort of touch allows the defense to stay spread out, concentrate on the other offensive threats in RJ Davis and Caleb Love, and also puts Duke in prime rebounding position which, they used a lot. Instead, Carolina tried to use the guys that were open — Pete Nance and Leaky Black — to, um, mixed results.

Five Takeaways from UNC vs. Duke (247Sports)

Dewey Burke and Justin Jackson shared their thoughts on the North Carolina 63-57 loss to the Duke Blue Devils.

That’s the struggle that the fans and everyone else has is not knowing what you are going to get out of this team." It's just about the way certain things happen on the floor, my perception is they just wouldn't have happened with that 2017 team that Justin was on and on 2009. I know we don't have Brady (Manek) but it goes back to what we said that if you tasted that, if you had a feeling of what it's like to be one of the last four standing, you would think you would kill to get back there and play one more half better. And so in my mind, if I'm in RJ’s position, or Pete’s position, or Armando on the on the weak side, I'm going to get whatever is going at the rim, whether I get a foul (or not). “Imagine if in 2017 after losing the national championship in 2016, if Justin and his teammates would have taken possessions off and have abysmal shooting like we have. I think one of the biggest ones for me, at the very end of the game, when you're supposed to be the most locked in and covering up for each other most… We go away from Armando for extended periods, even just for touches, to have him in the flow. Who They Are - Burke: “Obviously that's a very common comment on the message boards that, outside of a five-game run in the tournament, this is who we are. And it was 30 seconds left in a two-point game. If you're not competing on that end, you're just kind of sitting back and they're getting wherever they want.. Late Game Layups Can’t Happen - Jackson: “I think there's a lot of scenarios that you can see that just don't really add up for a lot of success. At times throughout the season, whenever you've seen this team play their best basketball, whether it's been at the end of the game, whenever they're trying to come back, it’s whenever they're pressuring the ball full court.
