There should be no doubt that a win by Emelianenko to crown him heavyweight champ in his final fight on his native soil would be a massive moment in the sport. The impressive outings against Valentin Moldavsky and Chieck Kongo led him to back to back wins and there doesn’t seem to be anyone on the horizon to pose a significant threat for him at heavyweight. Tokov gets up and Eblen gets up and slams him again to close out the round. Homasi stumbles to the ground and Ward is swarming on him. Ward is unloading on Homasi up against the cage and the round comes to an end. Ward drops Homasi and he is now looking for the rear-naked choke. Eblen cracks Tokov with aright down the middle.

Former Bellator bantamweight champion Darrion Caldwell had to make some big changes ahead of his Bellator 290 fight with Nikita Mikhailov.

“I want to get back on track and back in the spotlight because that’s what I’m going to do on Feb. I know it’s the Bader and Fedor card, but I want to come in and steal the show. It was impossible for me to know I needed a shift, but the coaches here were real with me and telling me how I’ve been showing up. “In my mind, all I have to do is show up and I’m doing everything right. Caldwell isn’t looking too far ahead, however, because to get to where he wants to go, it starts with beating Mikhailov on a massive event for the promotion. And I’ve learned that I can just be myself, and be happy with that. It’s been working, and everyone is going to see that Feb. When he entered the promotion in 2014, Caldwell went on an incredible run that led to winning the Bellator bantamweight title and defending it twice. Since then, Caldwell picked up a pair of wins, and now he finds himself in the longest losing streak of his career.

Bellator 290 is Saturday, Feb. 4 on CBS and it will feature the very last fight of Fed Emelianenko, as he fights heavyweight champ Ryan Bader for the title.

Eblen returned to his wrestling in the fourth frame, pressing Tokov against the fence and making him carry his weight. He holds a 1-0 record in pro MMA and holds a purple belt in Jiu-Jitsu. He was all over Homasi, unleashing a swarm of punches that were overloading the fading fighter. Bader started to score early with his boxing, first with his jab, and then mixing in his hooks. The war waged on in the second round, with Tokov pumping out his jab. Once Tokov broke free, he was able to connect some more with his straight punches, but Eblen was also getting through with his looping leather. It’s about a proper send off for one of the greatest fighters to ever compete in full contact martial arts. The Bellator 290 co-main event will be a middleweight title fight between the new champion, Johnny Eblen, and his first challenger, Anatoly Tokov. The main event of the evening will be a special one. Possessing that combination for 23-years has earned him the respect of his peers, fans, and promoters alike — and also cemented his face on the Mount Rushmore of MMA.

Tokov got to his feet as the round ended. Eblen secured a takedown, but Tokov quickly got to his feet. The fight went the distance but was largely one-sided after the first round. Eblen slipped but quickly got back to his feet. Tokov landed a combination at the start of the second round. Tokov got to his feet and the round ended with the two clinched along the fence. Tokov briefly wobbled Eblen with a punch. Eblen looks to get the fight to the ground but Tokov defends the attempt. Tokov stands but Elben keeps the pressure on. The champ connected with a left hand on the break in the closing seconds of the round. Tokov connected with counter right hand off of a leg kick, but couldn’t get Eblen to the ground. Legendary Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko officially retires following a disappointing first-round defeat in Saturday's rematch.

Homasi went down and Ward jumped on him to earn the stoppage. In the second round, Ward saw and smelled blood and continued to pour it on. He followed that with two scoops and slams and another takedown as Tokov was unable to free himself from the champ’s grasp. The champ pounced and unleashed a flurry of punches and hammerfists before Emelianenko moved to his right side. While the first two rounds were fairly close, Eblen (13-0) began imposing his will in the third round, locking his hands around Tokov’s waist and refusing to let go. Emelianenko, 46, had announced this would be his last fight after a glorious 22-year career in which he is regarded as the great heavyweight of all time.

After over 20 years in MMA, Fedor Emelianenko laid down his gloves following his heavyweight title bout with Ryan Bader at Bellator 290.

He then scored a win over fellow PRIDE alum Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at Bellator 237 before his next bout was delayed due to the COVID pandemic. Emelianenko finished Frank Mir and Chael Sonnen before a loss to Bader. It would be the only time Emelianenko would lose for just short of a decade. But in June 2010, Emelianko’s legendary unbeaten run came to an end when he was quickly submitted by Fabricio Werdum. But on the other side, I’m glad all these people are here cheering for me, and all these veteran fighters that have walked the path with me for the last 20 years are here to greet me. “On one side, I’m sad, of course that I didn’t deliver on the fight as I wanted to,” Emelianenko said in the post-fight interview.
