14 Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Details You Missed In Theaters (Screen Rant)

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever released on Disney+ on February 1, 2023, so many can catch details and Easter eggs they might have missed in theaters.

[Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's post-credits scene](https://screenrant.com/black-panther-wakanda-forever-post-credits-phase-5/) came as a shock to audiences, though it was perhaps the perfect way to continue Boseman's legacy in the MCU. This name brilliantly reflects the colonizer/colonized themes that run deep in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and act as a symbol of liberty and freedom for the Wakandans and the Talokanil. At the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the new Director of the CIA, Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, has her ex-husband and employee, Everett Ross, arrested for feeding information to the Wakandans. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's post-credits scene reveals that T'Challa and Nakia had a secret child before the former's death, choosing to raise the kid in Haiti, away from the pressures of the Wakandan throne. After Shuri successfully creates a synthetic heart-shaped herb and ingests it, she finds herself imbued with the strength of the Black Panther, quickly setting to work on designing a suit for herself. In the trailers, this led many to wonder whether Killmonger would be permanently returning, but in Wakanda Forever, it shows Shuri's growth and development as a fully-fledged hero. MIT has been a significant location in the MCU for a number of years, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever only adds to its importance. The original film saw T'Challa returning to Wakanda after the death of his father and the events of Captain America: Civil War, with Okoye repeating the same line, "we're home," in both instances. Riri Williams, portrayed by Dominique Thorne in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, has been set up to be Iron Man's legacy hero in the wake of Tony Stark's sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame. However, when Okoye is removed from the Dora, Ayo is seen wearing red and gold armor, signifying her ascension to General of the Dora Milaje. Trevor Noah reprises his role as the AI, Griot, in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, helping Shuri with her technological advancements, specifically the creation of the synthetic heart-shaped herb. While Wakanda Forever will have changed the future of the MCU in significant ways, it also features many callbacks to the MCU's rich history and pays tribute to the legendary Chadwick Boseman.

Wakanda Forever's New Black Panther Is the Only Natural Choice (Vulture)

Shuri (Letitia Wright) suits up in Marvel's 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' as the new Black Panther, a successor to Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa.

In a meta-textual sense, Shuri’s initial refusal to take on the identity speaks to how no one is really capable of living up to Chadwick Boseman. According to Queen Ororo (the X-Men’s Storm, T’Challa’s wife in the comics), Wakanda needed a Black Panther, and Shuri was the most suitable candidate. The battle for the throne, and thus for the mantle, is a visualization of the idea of continued lineage, with a mask that anonymizes its wearer in order to draw a direct ceremonial line between generations of Wakandans who previously donned it. 1, which told much of her story in flashback after Doctor Doom attacked T’Challa and left him for dead, leaving Wakanda without a Black Panther to protect it. In the first Black Panther, Shuri was referred to as “a child who scoffs at tradition,” an idea that informs her story after her brother succumbs (offscreen) to an illness that she’s powerless to prevent, despite her technological prowess. The 2020 death of Chadwick Boseman left Marvel Studios with two choices: Recast his role as T’Challa, the Black Panther and king of Wakanda, or pay tribute in the sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
