Stein: 'Nets under no pressure to move swiftly' on Kyrie Irving ... (NetsDaily)

Kyrie Irving is playing ... and playing well. At the top of his game actually. It's more than his numbers. He is leading the Nets with Kevin Durant and Ben ...

So in the meantime, as we have since last June 27 when Irving opted into his last year, we wait. That’s not to say the Nets won’t move. As Bobby Marks and other pundits have noted, the likelihood is that Irving stays in Brooklyn. The Nets were on a stunning 18-2 surge when Kevin Durant was sidelined by a knee sprain on Jan. He is leading the Nets with Kevin Durant and Ben Simmons out and mentoring younger players on the roster. His clutch gene is on display every night, leading the NBA in fourth quarter points.

Shortly thereafter, it seemed like the Nets were going to release Irving again when the team suspended him over his controversial tweets. [Marc Stein](https://marcstein.substack.com/p/nba-trade-deadline-latest-whispers-814?sd=pf), the Brooklyn Nets feel like they're under no pressure when it comes to Irving's extension. Despite that, the Brooklyn Nets are reportedly in no rush to offer Irving an extension.

In the end, there will likely be a compromise that is acceptable to both Irving and the Nets. The Nets have to trust that he will be healthy, available and non-controversial in that span if they are going to make a commitment to him that is anywhere near his max salary. That would wipe away a big chunk of their cap space next summer, but even if they did maximize their space, they could only get to around $34 million in space. While there will be teams with cap space this offseason, many of them would either seemingly be undesirable to Irving or would lack interest in him themselves. According to [Marc Stein](https://marcstein.substack.com/p/nba-trade-deadline-latest-whispers-814), however, there have been no substantive talks between the two sides yet, and some league observers believe the Nets are feeling no pressure to act quickly. [Kyrie Irving](/nba/players/1779901/kyrie-irving/) has thrived since returning from his suspension earlier this season, but that doesn't mean his future with the [Brooklyn Nets](https://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/BKN/brooklyn-nets/) is set in stone.

Kyrie Irving wants a contract extension from the Nets, but they are in no rush to deal knowing he would need a sign-and-trade to get to a contender.

We all win when a record is broken and if LeBron breaks mine, I will be right there to cheer him on.” LeBron is a playmaker. That is the first game of a back-to-back for the Lakers, and they have rested LeBron in half of those for most of the season. Because LeBron is not a natural scorer. LeBron and the medical staff will speak after LeBron starts to warm up Tuesday to determine if LeBron can play in Madison Square Garden, a game he hates to miss because he loves playing in that venue. With those 11 assits LeBron moved past both Mark Jackson and Steve Nash to be fourth on the NBA’s all-time assists list. • The Lakers have officially listed LeBron (and Anthony Davis) as out for the game Monday night in Brooklyn. LeBron is averaging 30.2 points per game this season, at that pace he would set the record on Feb. 7 at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder, although that would be by one point, so Feb. Feb. Let’s break down the latest numbers (this will be updated after every Lakers game until the record is set). Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has held the NBA all-time scoring record at 38,387 points since he retired in 1989.

And I wish we could have got the chance to play against one another [on Monday night] but who knows what can happen down the line." "Continue to enjoy the shows that he put on because it's not going to be for too much longer," Irving continued. I don’t think we should be surprised. "I definitely saw this when we were playing together," Irving said when asked about James’ season.

Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving had nothing but praise for former Cavs teammate LeBron James as the Akron native chases the NBA scoring record.

I think we should congratulate and celebrate him as much as possible. Kyrie Irving and Patrick Beverley Open Up About Friendship (Sports Illustrated)

The Monday night matchup between the Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers is certainly appealing on paper. That wasn't the case on the hardwood.

It's the respect between the firey defender and a skilled shot-maker. "And a few times I missed shots and he's like, 'That's off! I make sure I get my rest the night before I play Kyrie, for sure." "The ultimate competitor. That was the case with Irving. The Monday night matchup between the Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers is certainly appealing on paper.

Kyrie Irving, Patrick Beverley exchange surprising praise after Nets ... (ClutchPoints)

Kyrie Irving and Patrick Beverley went out of their way to praise each other after the Nets beat the Lakers on Monday.

“Obviously wise words from a wise man,” Beverley told the Daily News of Irving. Beverley indeed played a part in keeping him from completely going off with Kevin Durant sidelined, though, holding Irving to nine points on 2-of-7 shooting as the primary defender of the Nets’ floor general. “Some other guys would probably use that word [irritating], but for me, [when it comes to] Patrick, I enjoy the competitive spirit that he brings out of me and he brings out of other people,” Irving said of Beverley after the game, per Kristian Winfield of New York Daily News.

Marc Stein: Brooklyn Nets 'feel no pressure' in Kyrie Irving extension ... (Nets Wire)

According to Marc Stein, the Brooklyn Nets feel "no pressure" in its contract extension talks with superstar Kyrie Irving.

According to Haynes, Irving is eligible for a max contract extension of four years and “roughly” $200 million. However, she did say that they have not had any “significant” conversations with the Nets to date and that the “ball is in the Nets’ court” implying that Brooklyn is taking its time with Irving. Stein said that some around the NBA believe that the Nets could be doing this on purpose because they do not feel any pressure to sign Irving to an extension in a timely manner.
