Joel Embiid is on the injury report for Saturday's game.
They are 8-2 in their last ten games and 12-11 in the 23 games they have played on the road outside of Colorado. They are 31-16 in 47 games and an outstanding 18-7 in the 25 games they have hosted at home in Philadelphia. They are 8-2 in their last ten games and in the middle of a six-game winning streak.
When Nikola Jokic called Joel Embiid “probably” the most dominant player in the NBA ahead of Saturday's showcase, he knew the storm that awaited him.
But both superstars lived up to the billing in the first half. Running the floor hard and finishing, attacking the rim or waiting on the wing for a pass, Porter played his role perfectly. Embiid was behind an ignominious Nuggets start to the third quarter, as the Sixers compiled a 15-4 run over the first three minutes. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope stripped the ball twice, once leading to a fruitful transition break, and more turnovers followed. After a stellar first half, the Nuggets’ offense sputtered for just 46 points in the final two quarters. Jokic was strong, ending the marquee contest with 24 points, nine assists and eight rebounds, but Embiid’s effort was otherworldly.

Embiid recorded a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds as the 76ers continued their pursuit of the I got the ball, I didn't even see the rim, and I felt like it was deserving of a good celebration." Any time I get the chance, I haven't done it in a while so I just felt like it was a good and-1.
The Philadelphia 76ers star was fined $25000 for making what the NBA called an “obscene gesture” on the court.
So, even if the NBA didn’t necessarily approve of Embiid’s celebration, getting Triple H’s approval is probably worth the $25,000 fine. While Embiid’s wallet is now lighter, he did appear to gain an admirer through the endeavor. The league was unhappy that Embiid made “an obscene gesture on the playing court.”
In the weeks leading up to Thursday's announcement for the 2023 NBA All-Star Game starters, it was known that one of Jayson Tatum, Kevin Durant, ...
In 2002, he joined the Celtics as their senior vice president of operations, holding that position for four years before heading to the Rockets. He attended MIT, where he received an MBA from the Sloan School of Management. Of course, both Embiid and Tatum have résumés that are worthy of being named an All-Star starter. When he was with the Rockets, Morey claimed that the MVP voters As a result, Tatum finished third with a weighted score of 2.75 while Embiid had a weighted score of 3.5. Embiid ended up being the odd man out as Tatum, Durant, and Antentokounmpo were all named starters Thursday.
Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers rally from a halftime deficit to defeat Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.
There seemed to be a miscommunication in the second quarter when he and Niang had a 2-on-1 opportunity and Milton wasn’t able to get it to him. The Minivan knocked down a 3-pointer in his initial run to get him off to a good start. His defense in the second half was essential in helping Philadelphia get back in the game after the slow start. He didn’t shoot the ball well in this one as he didn’t have the same efficiency on offense. It was a good offensive night for Harden as he was able to get into the paint and be able to lead the offense off to a good start. Unfortunately, he had a few turnovers in the third quarter from stepping on the baseline. He also had probably the biggest play of the game when he tipped in a Harden miss to give the Sixers a 5-point edge with 1:02 left to seal it. Overall, the big fella was terrific on the offensive end and he made some big plays, and he really put his stamp on this game from the jump. He seemed a bit out of sorts in terms of his defense off the ball, it wasn’t great as Denver was getting a lot of wide-open triples off ball and player movement. The Sixers focused their offense so much on the Harden and Embiid pick-and-roll, as they should, that Harris wasn’t able to get involved much on the offensive end. He only took three shots in the first half as he wasn’t able to get much of an opportunity to contribute. The two are the top centers in the league and they have been able to dominate the game with their skills.
The Wells Fargo Center crowd's chant reminded everyone who they thought deserved the league's top individual honor.
Then, Embiid collected a steal and smartly drew a shooting foul 50 feet from the basket with less than one second to go in the period, making all three foul shots to slash the Nuggets’ lead to 99-96 heading into the final period. Hyland totaled 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting in 21 minutes as a ballhandler off the bench. Tucker on Jokic, allowing Embiid to roam more as a rim protector. Embiid started 4-of-4 from the field (and, uncharacteristically, 0-for-3 from the foul line) but tailed off for the rest of the first half, with 19 points on 17 shots. Jokić, meanwhile, made six of his seven first-half shots to help the Nuggets build their double-digit lead — and particularly feasted when matched up with backup center Montrezl Harrell. Before the break, the Nuggets shot nearly 66% from the floor and 10-of-17 shooting from three-point range. Denver’s offense was more lethal across the board early on, dropping 73 first-half points, including a 19-8 run to end the second quarter and lead by, 73-58, at the break. He tied the game, 108-108, with a pull-up jumper over Jokić with 6 minutes, 57 seconds to play, then again at 110 on another jumper about over a minute later. It was quite the turnaround from a first half that looked like a budding Nuggets blowout. “That whole game was us just fighting and really lock in defensively to get enough stops to win it.” Both players are in the conversation for the honor again based on their individual production and team success — the Sixers (32-16) have won 20 of 24 games, the Nuggets sit atop the Western Conference standings, and both teams entered the game having gone an NBA-best 8-2 in their last 10. I like getting to the fourth quarter and getting into those types of possessions where you’ve got to go out and make the plays.

By that time, the MVP race will be heating up even more, too. This team really looks to be coming into its own, but in order to reach the Promised Land, Embiid needs to keep balling and that comes down to staying healthy. He was 18 for 31 from the field, 7 for 10 from the field, and 4 for 7 from three-point land. The fact that Embiid wasn’t named a starter is interesting given his career year, yet he can still win an even greater award in the MVP as he moves up the ladder. That also might not be that heavy of a representation compared to other markets’ media representations in the vote. That does not, however, mean they did/did not vote for Embiid. That first-place media voting finish for the 24-year-old Celtics forward likey inspired Morey’s rant, however, Tatum didn’t necessarily have tons of Boston reporters on his side: [emphasis on positions](https://clutchpoints.com/sixers-joel-embiid-all-star-starter-snub-shows-why-nba-must-change-rules) makes it so only a select number of frontcourt players can start, even though the league has become less and less position-oriented. Joel Embiid turned in an MVP-caliber performance Saturday and the Sixers came back for a 126-119 victory over Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets. By Noah Levick.
His fourth three of the afternoon put the Sixers up eight points and was a fitting punctuation to an MVP-caliber day. The Sixers briefly lost their momentum and went down 106-98 on two Hyland free throws, but Niang hit an important, quick-release three off of a sideline out-of-bounds play to beat the shot clock. Jokic appeared wary at times of being too aggressive on Embiid’s catches at the nail and helping him draw fouls, so Embiid drained a couple of jumpers. And Tucker picked the perfect time for his only points, tipping in a Harden miss after the Nuggets had cut the Sixers' lead to 120-117. It was a reasonable change given the Sixers’ need to disrupt the Nuggets’ offensive rhythm and general ease. Malone picked up a technical foul in the third, seemingly for arguing that Tucker’s shoulder bumps on Jokic should’ve been fouls. Unsurprisingly, the Jokic-led Nuggets outscored the Sixers by five points during Montrezl Harrell’s initial stint of approximately two and a half minutes. Nuggets head coach Michael Malone called a timeout just 17 seconds into the second period following a simple Embiid assist on a Tyrese Maxey three, but the Sixers continued to score freely. Jokic found Bruce Brown on a back-door cut for a layup late in the first, capitalizing on James Harden's inattentiveness. Tucker in the first half on five combined field-goal attempts. One of the most noticeable aspects early in Saturday’s game was, in a literal sense, off the court. He got Jokic to commit to his pump fake on the Sixers’ first possession before scoring an and-one hoop.
Joel Embiid reacts to not being named an All-Star starter after leading the Philadelphia 76ers past the Denver Nuggets.
“I don’t think anybody has had a better year than me, but like I said, if you focus on the right things and everything is gonna go well for you.” At the end of the day, Embiid is going to be named an All-Star. I think he’s more of a motivation to go out and try to win the whole thing. I don’t know if it’s because I troll a lot or that I guess I’m an (expletive), but it’s cool. If he needs to knock down some jumpers, he can do that too as well as take defenders off the dribble. “Just trying to be aggressive,” said Embiid.
Joel Embiid scored 47 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in a 126-119 comeback win over the Denver Nuggets on Jan. 28, 2023.
That's tied for third-most by an NBA player this season (Stathead). Embiid is the second player in franchise history to produce at least four games of 45-plus points, 15-plus rebounds, and five-plus assists, joining Hall of Famer WILT CHAMBERLAIN (Stathead). That leads the NBA in such games since the start of the 2016-17 season (Stathead). Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant, and Jayson Tatum are the East's frontcourt All-Star starters, following a vote by fans, media, and players.
“I guess that’s the only way I’m probably going to get that respect.” Embiid is all but guaranteed to be voted as an All-Star reserve by the NBA’s coaches. To be honest, I was kind of surprised that he didn’t get selected as an All-Star [starter]. This comes despite Embiid leading the NBA leading in scoring (33.8 points per game) while adding 10 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.7 blocks in his 36 games for the 32-16 Sixers — numbers that put him on the short list of MVP contenders. But like I said, if you focus on the right things, then everything is going to go well for you.” Embiid made the most of his first opportunity post-snub, amassing 47 points, 18 rebounds, five assists, three steals, and two blocks in the
Joel Embiid feels slighted after the All-Star starters were revealed, but he vows to keep the same attitude.
“Just trying to be aggressive coming off a bad game from Wednesday,” Embiid finished. Having been a starter for the last five years, it is kind of disrespectful. Like I said, you focus on the right things, and everything is gonna go well for you.” Over the years, Embiid has felt slighted by media members all around the league and fans that don’t cheer for the 76ers. In the much-anticipated showdown between Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic, the Sixers came from behind to beat the Nuggets.
- Harris came up with another triple and then stole the ball from Jokic to start a fast break that led to more Sixers points. - A bucket-block-bucket sequence from Embiid got the Sixers the lead. - Offensively to start the second half, the Sixers relied on the Harden-Embiid two-man game and got points on seven straight possessions to fuel a 15-4 run. - Jokic got a big smattering of boos from the Philly crowd during the starting lineup introductions. Tucker on Jokic, applying some pressure in the backcourt as he brought the ball up, with Embiid in a position to help off of his man (Aaron Gordon). Embiid was a menace of the ball and Tucker held his own with his way bigger assignment. - Maxey hit his patented one-legged runner/floater shot to start the fourth quarter but it looked like he was anticipating contact too much on his next few drives and came up empty. In the showdown between Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic, the Sixers secured a win in comeback fashion by a score of 126-119 The two exchanged buckets and Jokic eventually drew a foul on Embiid. Although Embiid had 14 points on 6-10 shooting in the first quarter, Philly trailed by nine. He hit shots from various locations on the court, including a triple despite a foul from Bruce Brown, and made some very nice passes. While Jokic sat in the second quarter, Murray got to cooking.

For as well as the 76ers as playing, now Embiid wants to see them be more. What's clear is that while Embiid doesn't know how the MVP vote is going to play out, he feels awfully good about where Philadelphia sits with a little over two months remaining in the regular season. Like tonight -- in the second half, we were locked in. If we keep winning, and everyone stays healthy, I've got a better chance of going out there and winning a championship." Embiid has repeatedly praised Jokic extensively, saying he's a tremendous player and that he has a lot of respect for him. "I don't know. "I'm used to it," Embiid said. "Like I told you, I'm done arguing for myself. "He's really talented," Embiid said. Embiid scored 47 points as the Sixers beat Denver 126-119 for their seventh straight win.
They have a player in Embiid who consistently wins his matchup every night, even against the best. In the matchup of the two best big men in the league, Embiid scored a knockout. Embiid played up on Jokic, and the Nuggets picked the Sixers apart. But the standard that he has set, particularly for Embiid to continually chase, is high. The Sixers are not a perfect team, but there is plenty of talent. The Sixers gave up 73 points in the first half and trailed by 15 at the break. Sitting on 44 points, Embiid still made the winning play: a pass to And just this week, Embiid was not voted one of the Eastern Conference All-Star starters (a combination of fan, player and media voting) despite leading the league in scoring. Keep the banners and hashtags in a drawer and continue to go to work. Clearly the route is to let the organization do the promotion and have the player give team-first quotes to the media. If Embiid wants to win it, go out there and grab the No. I also don’t have time to explain why I compared Embiid to adamantium and not vibranium even though the latter and the center are both from Africa so I’m going to move on. Well, he’s only attempting three shots from deep per night, and is hitting 56 percent of everything he puts up inside the arc. The 120-pack of Crayola colors is his thing. Philly rallied back from first-half deficit and outscored the Nuggets 68-46 in the final two quarters to pull out a 126-119 win. If Harden had shown up in point Harden mode from the get-go, Embiid might have taken home the award he shilled so shamelessly for. Even Jokić has a little one-legged fadeaway and those low-post touch shots that he relies on. Embiid approached the matchup with the reigning back-to-back MVP as you’d expect. We know we have to make the good-to-great pass to be successful and to be a great team, and I thought Jo did a great job of that in tonight’s game.
