The Best New Music This Week: Lil Yachty, Rae Sremmurd, Chloë ... (Complex)

Complex's best new music this week includes songs from Lil Yachty, Rae Sremmurd, Chloe, Zack Bia, Don Toliver, Midwxst, Denzel Curry, and many more.

Four years after releasing their hit “RNP,” Cordae and Anderson .Paak have reunite once again on “Two Tens.” Their latest collaboration is a smooth record that finds the duo trading punchy bars over a slick and mellow beat, which was co-produced by J. “Motown” is a fun collaboration that will appear on Kaycyy’s next project. The track, which is expected to be on Cordae’s upcoming album, isn’t as electric as their first collaboration, but still enjoyable and at the very least, shows that Cordae and .Paak still make a great duo. “Robbers and Villains” does get repetitive at times, but it definitely has a sound and message that will go over well with many listeners. “Motown” is a bar-heavy record that finds Kaycyy delivering thoughtful raps that reflect on various moments in his life. “I been ballin’, I been ballin’ since the red monkeys/I been ballin’ since the tip-off/Yohji Yamamotos on my legs, let’s have a drip-off,” BabyTron spits. “Robbers and Villains” is a menacing track with a late-night feel that finds SleazyWorld Go reflecting on some of the darkest things he’s witnessed in his life. “Tally” is a solid collaboration. After a long hiatus, Rae Sremmurd is back with “Sucka or Sum,” a slow-burning, trap record with a booming bass. “Tally” is an unsuspecting collaboration from Midwxst and Denzel Curry. “Drive ME crazy!” is one of the standouts of Lil Yachty’s new album Let’s Start Here, which also marks a new musical direction for the rapper. “Hardcore” is a fun and energetic dance record that finds Zack Bia joining forces with Don Toliver.

Lil Yachty co-produced every track on Let’s Start Here., and I’m guessing he created the album cover with the AI model DALL-E mini. When discussing the inspiration behind the album and his robust approach, Yachty sternly replied, “I wanted to be taken seriously as an artist, not just some SoundCloud rapper. “The Ride” Feat. During the initial announcement, Yachty did not list any guest vocal features. While Lil Yachty co-produced the entire album, the project features a list of heavy hitter guest producers, including Justin Raisen, Sad Pony, Patrick Wimberly, Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Jacob Portrait, Nick Hakim, Magdalena Bay, and Jam City. Turns out, it’s just a figment of Yachty’s imagination and his date isn’t feeling the same way, tell him that it’s been “two weeks.” True to its title, Let’s Start Here ushers in a new start for Yachty, or at the very least, a level up in his music career. Throughout 2021 and 2022, the rapper was hard at work in the studio, building up to what would become the genre-bending LP.
