"He could've sat on a couch for four years," said Saleh, making the point that Hackett is excited about the opportunity with the Jets. Hackett has a distant connection to the Jets. His brief tenure was marked by the sharp decline of quarterback [Russell Wilson](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/14881/russell-wilson) and criticism for his game-management decisions. His father, Paul, was the offensive coordinator from 2001 to 2004, a period in which he was the target of fan and media criticism. Rodgers' future in Green Bay is uncertain and the Jets are "committed" to acquiring a veteran quarterback, Saleh told reporters. Aaron Rodgers trade rumors are happening again after Jets hire ... (SB Nation)

Hey y'all, remember when the Broncos were considered favorites to land Aaron Rodgers because Nathaniel Hackett became the head coach in Denver?

I am speaking it into existence. I am connecting the dots. [Packers](https://www.acmepackingcompany.com/) ahead of last season. Rodgers seems like he’s on the outs with the Packers, especially with the way the season ended, but you can’t count out Rodgers returning to Green Bay. Jets hire former Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett as new offensive ... (NFL.com)

The Jets have hired former Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett as their new offensive coordinator, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Thursday.

Along the way, [Chris Streveler](https://www.nfl.com/players/chris-streveler/) also found himself in the lineup, tasked with leading an offense that showed early season promise, but couldn't weather a number of key injuries. "The quarterback position, obviously, with all the different interviews was the No. New York's lack of a solution at quarterback appeared to drive a few candidates away from their opening. "It was simple: We're committed to finding a veteran. … It was talked about that we do plan on bringing in a veteran quarterback if we can. But the fact of the matter is that he got to Denver and he had that opportunity because of his life's work as an offensive coordinator and all the the different things that he's done is this league and how much respect he's garnered throughout the league in all those different spots and all the players he's developed in his career and the people that he's worked with. New York is giving him the opportunity to do so with a team that lacks an answer under center. The pairing of Hackett and The New York Jets hired Hackett as their offensive coordinator on Thursday, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported. "But you gotta have the discipline to look past recency bias, you gotta be able to look past whatever you wanna call Denver. Nathaniel Hackett is perfect OC to unlock NY Jets RB Breece Hall (Jets X-Factor)

The New York Jets can increase the explosiveness of their offense by tapping into this overlooked part of Breece Hall's game.

Jets fans have been deprived of seeing their running backs involved in the passing game, especially in the red zone. Nathaniel Hackett just may be the right man to help Hall fulfill that potential. I think downfield routes are a better way to let him cook than screen passes, which give him the ball in a stationary position behind the line of scrimmage. Give Hall the ball with a head of steam toward the middle of the field and let him work his magic. The Jets have themselves a special offensive weapon in Breece Hall. And when you have a weapon of Hall’s caliber, it’s smart to utilize him in many different ways rather than simply force-feed him rush attempts and screen passes. The Jets didn’t give him many opportunities to create offense as a route runner. The Packers targeted their running backs very frequently and produced efficient results when doing so. On the second play, Hall flexes out wide and runs a slant against a safety on third-and-short. Then, Hall gives a slight hesitation before breaking sharply to the inside, just beyond the first-down marker. (Side note: the quickness of his break is stellar.) Hall proceeds to show excellent route-running awareness and feel as he settles into the soft spot between the two defenders. After the catch, Hall bounces off defenders for oodles of YAC.

5 Jets in line for big years with Nathaniel Hackett as offensive ... (amNY)

Hall was on track to win Rookie of the Year before his injury, but the run-centric offense that Hackett wants to incorporate will fit perfectly with his skillset. Zach Wilson won’t be starting in 2023 barring an injury to the veteran quarterback that is brought in. If Aaron Rodgers or Derek Carr made their way to New York, Moore would be a candidate to have a big season in year three with the Jets. Add in improved play from Leonard Fournette, Devante Adams, and other key players and there’s reason to be excited for the Jets. Becton should be prime for a big year. Hackett, on the other hand, comes from a run-centric offense.
