Game Recap: Giants vs. Eagles (PhiladelphiaEagles.com)

It's win or go home as the Eagles host the New York Giants in the Divisional Round.

The Eagles recovered, but had to punt. Before Brett Kern pinned the Giants at their own 7-yard line, the Eagles tried to draw the Giants offsides as Reed Blankenship acted as if he was going to take a direct snap before lining up under center. The Giants went three and out on their opening possession of the third quarter. Two plays later, the Giants punched it in as Barkley took a direct snap, handed off to running back Matt Brieda for an 8-yard touchdown. The Eagles totaled 18 first downs, to just three for the Giants. QB1 did the work himself to cap off a 14-play, 72-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown run to make it 28-0 with 43 seconds left in the first half. The Giants were 1-of-6 on third- and fourth-down combined with no red zone trips. Hurts capped off the second drive with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Smith. The Giants, early in the second quarter, had to take a timeout after Jones' contact lens came out after a 1-yard run. Hurts, instead, tossed the ball to running back Kenneth Gainwell and gained 14 yards to the left side thanks to a devastating block from Goedert on Giants cornerback Adoree Jackson. The big play was a 40-yard deep shot to DeVonta Smith on an over route. Hurts was 5-for-5 for 68 yards, capping off the drive with a 16-yard touchdown pass to tight end Dallas Goedert, who made a great one-handed grab on the catch and run.

Giants' Surprising Season Ends With a Dominant Eagles Win (The New York Times)

PHILADELPHIA — About 45 minutes before kickoff of a divisional-round playoff game that would have seemed impossible for the Giants in August, ...

They will host the winner of the divisional-round game on Sunday between the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys for the N.F.C. In the regular season, the Eagles burst out to an 8-0 start and won six of their remaining nine games, including two against the Giants. Hurts, the third-year quarterback who passed for 154 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday, has blossomed into one of the league’s best young throwers. “I just want to see the team getting better, the execution getting better and not beating ourselves and being competitive in all the games. The Cinderella story of sorts ended Saturday night when the Giants lost to the top-seeded Eagles, 38-7, on a chilly evening in Philadelphia. By the time Eagles running back Boston Scott plunged into the end zone for a 3-yard touchdown, widening the gap to 21-0 with about seven minutes remaining in the half, the Giants’ sideline looked somber.

Eagles' unstoppable running game demolishes the Giants (NBC Sports)

The Eagles absolutely dominated the Giants in the run game on Saturday night in their divisional round win. By Reuben Frank.

The Eagles earned a trip to their seventh NFC Championship Game since 2001. Thanks in great part to the running attack, the Eagles had an 11 ½-minute time-of-possession edge. In the first 89 years of the Eagles-Giants rivalry, the Eagles ran for 250 yards five times against the Giants. In their 48-22 win in December, the Eagles ran for 253 yards and four TDs. … When we know we’re going to get a chance to run the ball, the (line) and running backs take it upon ourselves to just make a statement every time.” Just happy to get this ‘W.’ Still hungry, and we’re not done.” “Everybody knows I’m the 3rd-down back, but every opportunity I get to help the team out I’m grateful for,” Gainwell said. “It’s a win-or-go-home mentality,” Sanders said. The Eagles’ 268 rushing yards are second-most in Eagles postseason history. They kept doing it and the Giants couldn’t stop it. He ran nine times for 90 yards after halftime. “It was fun to be out there.”

A masterpiece of minimalist quarterbacking by Eagles' Jalen Hurts (NBC Sports Chicago)

Jalen Hurts' numbers won't blow you away but he did exactly what the Eagles needed him to against the Giants. By Reuben Frank.

He brings this calmness to the entire team. Knowing what that looks like and finding a way to do that.” “I think it was very important for us to come out and start fast,” Hurts said. There is a lot to be grateful for, but it was earned during the week. “I truly never put a limit on myself and I never put a limit on what this team can do, so there’s always more out there for us to get. Hurts was in complete command of the offense, in complete command of the team. But Hurts was brilliant when he had to be. “As a football team, we just came out and played with a lot of energy. The Eagles just transitioned from pass to run earlier than usual Saturday night against an overmatched Giants defense. “Seemed like the old Jalen to me,” Miles Sanders said. “I’m not going to lie. There's a certain elegance in not trying to do too much and only doing what you need to do.

Eagles news: Kelce hurts quad; ticket info for championship game ... (The Philadelphia Inquirer)

The Eagles are one win away from the Super Bowl, and will face either the Cowboys or 49ers in the NFC championship game.

The Eagles were the better team, in every facet of the game, by several orders of magnitude. He sustained an injury to his throwing shoulder a month ago and was sidelined for two games before Hurts returned in the regular-season finale against the Giants. Regardless, Hurts was a clear beneficiary from the bye week, and he answered lingering questions with his performance in his second career playoff game. Hall of Famer Peyton Manning brought his son, Marshall, to the game, who happened to be sporting a Jalen Hurts jersey. “Even if he is not carrying it or even if he is not having runs to him, he is still going to affect the game. After showing some fan favorites, the Eagles once again showed Manning, who was once again jeered by Birds fans. Before Hurts took the podium in the auditorium at the Linc, Lurie was at Hurts’ locker stall. But the Eagles again find themselves entering an offseason in which they must decide whether or not to extend a quarterback before his rookie contract has expired. You need that self-esteem to play that position at the highest level of football. You don’t have a “Breed of One” tattoo and wear a medallion with the phrase to your postgame news conference if you don’t think you’re special. You don’t wear a Jordan “I’m Back” t-shirt after returning on short notice following the injury if you don’t see yourself in that class. “To have him out there is like having – I’m not sure I should even go there – but he’s like having Michael Jordan out there,” the coach said after the Eagles’ 38-7 win over the Giants.

And it was capped with a jump pass to Marquez Valdes-Scantling for six yards and the touchdown when it seemed like that kind of play should be off the table. Henne got word at halftime that Mahomes was going to give it a go after the break, but the spark he gave the rest of the team was palpable, and that’d be important with the starter not physically whole. “And then it’s also good when a guy’s still playing the game and can talk to you and you can bounce things off of him. “And making the protection call, I feel like that was a big moment, getting it to Kels [Kelce], on that third-and-3, getting that play going and realizing that if they’re going to bring pressure, I can get the ball out and make the right decision. The young defense forced consecutive punts to start the half, Butker kicked another 50-yarder, and after the Jags scored at the start of the fourth quarter, K.C. The bigger picture, though, relates to the 2017 title team, and how the foundation of this year’s team and that year’s team—another “Who We Are” element—is very similar. And you guys have been around to know how that thing goes, but to have a quarterback that is that tough, that’s a special deal. Just like Eminem came after Papa Doc in that famous scene, the Eagles put the Giants in a locker early and held them there the rest of the night. The other four are linemen, two on offense (Lane Johnson, Jason Kelce), two on defense (Graham, Fletcher Cox), all of whom have at least a decade of experience in the league. The Eagles doubled up the Giants in first downs, 26–13 (It was 18–3 at the half), and 416–227 in yards from scrimmage (258–64 at the half). It was 28–0 at the half, and Philly was content from there to continue delivering body blows that, eventually, would lead to a couple finishing shots. And what they were, and are, was more than enough to get Philly to the NFC championship game with a 38–7 win over the Giants.
