Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady remained coy on his future following the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 31-14 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL's Wild ...

The Cowboys could have won by more but kicker Brett Maher missed four extra point attempts in the game, eventually converting on his fifth try. Prescott finished the game with 305 passing yards and five total touchdowns – four TD passes and one rushing TD. “I’m very thankful for the respect and I hope I gave the same back.” He left New England as a free agent after the 2020 season and signed with the Bucs where he led the team to a Super Bowl win in his first season there. Thank you, everybody, for welcoming me,” said Brady, who is out of contract with the Bucs once this season concludes. “So whenever that day comes, we’ll figure it out.”

Tom Brady is messing with the clock, and it's about to get awkward (The Washington Post)

For the first time, he endured a losing season. Regardless of his choice, his Hall of Fame bust will look the same. He hasn’t managed to do amazing things with the Bucs because he turned back the clock. Before ending his postgame media session, he thanked the media and expressed his love for the Buccaneers. He panicked and tossed the football toward the back of the end zone. He might have to get used to causing the audience to wince instead of dropping jaws, but there’s nothing wrong with riding the train to the end of the line. He finished with 351 yards and two touchdowns, but the offense did most of the damage after Dallas took a 24-0 lead. But Willie Mays didn’t ruin his reputation when he ended his career with the New York Mets. In that span, he had attempted 410 passes, thrown 86 touchdowns and used his old-man trot to run for seven scores. The Cowboys led 6-0, and Brady was responding the way Brady responds, directing a 14-play drive that put his team within five yards of the end zone. The feeble pass, which Tom Brady intended to throw out of bounds, landed softly in the hands of Dallas Cowboys safety Jayron Kearse. Brady slapped the side of his helmet, looked down and screamed.

Where could Tom Brady land next, and does anybody want him? (SB Nation)

It was far from the worst game of Brady's career, but it was punctuated by facing the NFL's most prominent team, on national TV, in the playoffs. There was ...

Asking him to take a small step back to the bench for a year, so he can jump forward and claim the job in 2024. The Patriots need to rebuild, which is what Belichick understood when Brady left before — and even if Mac Jones isn’t the guy long term, going back to Brady just delays that process. He’s a little too free with his arm sometimes, and has thrown a fair share of Hospital Balls to his receivers that are way too risky for the NFL. Coming back and getting beaten down by the Bills is appealing only to fans in Buffalo. The byproduct would be that a Brady-led Niners team not only offers than hometown familiarity, but a place he could contend for a title. All the Jets need is a QB who can make the throws. If Brady wants to win, and potentially contend for a Super Bowl — only New York can offer him that. Trey Lance had the utmost faith from the front office, but poor performance coupled with injury and rounded out by Purdy’s emergence has put him in a weird spot. As part of the restructured deal Brady signed with the Buccaneers in 2021 to help them with cap space, he also ensured a “no tag” clause was added to his deal. Finally, if you’re Brady then why would you want to walk into the buzzsaw which is the AFC West? Tampa Bay is in a weird spot moving forward, and it’s probably best for all parties to just go their separate ways. There was nowhere to hide, no place to shrink away from the limelight — and for as much Schadenfreude as Brady has earned, for all the jokes about TikTok Witches, seeing it actually play out was just so damn sad.

Tafur: The 6 reasons Tom Brady to the Raiders doesn't make sense (The Athletic)

Brady would be a "lightning in a bottle" move that GM Dave Ziegler has said he's opposed to. That doesn't mean it won't happen.

[Patrick Mahomes](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/patrick-mahomes-WWwiw0IQD5ozgrHf/), the best player in the league, and [Justin Herbert](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/justin-herbert-9NHrY7HxyKCR40Kh/), who even his critics would admit is also a top-eight quarterback? And while I didn’t buy the Broncos hype this season, they should be a lot better with a new coach who draws up plays that actually fit [Russell Wilson](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/russell-wilson-iJrFtUU6uxSN7miK/). (Hobbs and [Dylan Parham](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/dylan-parham-ZG0hf6SkLNVeH2jT/) should be, but are a step down.) [Maxx Crosby](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/maxx-crosby-OJpdI7yWMuUU3PfE/), Nate Hobbs and Jones. The Raiders, coming off a playoff season, trade for an All-Pro receiver in Adams and then have four of the most embarrassing losses in recent memory (to the Brady obviously would think that he can win big with that foursome, assuming the offensive line is addressed and the Raiders actually hit on some draft picks. The Raiders need a quarterback and Brady is not only still playing, but he just set a record for [NFL](https://theathletic.com/nfl/) pass attempts in a season with 733. He can talk more about building a winner the right way, and probably doesn’t even need to make the playoffs for a couple of years before Davis gets impatient. [Cowboys](https://theathletic.com/nfl/team/cowboys/) in Monday’s wild-card playoff game, is 45. It was a fumble, and while the Patriots’ reign under Brady started with that botched call against the Raiders, it’s ancient history and has no bearing on this franchise trying to have their its winning season in 21 years.) Not to mention that if you’re Raiders general manager Dave Ziegler and coach Josh McDaniels, the Super Bowl rings that you won with the The Buccaneers finished 8-9 on the season and won a pretty lame NFC South, and even Brady’s greatest supporters would have to agree he didn’t play very well the first half of the season.

Returning or Retiring? Patriots Tom Brady's Legendary Legacy Secure (Sports Illustrated)

Have we seen the last of Tom Brady on an NFL football field as an active player?

Despite being engulfed by a sea of envy in most of the country, as well as a puddle of resentment regarding his departure, Brady is still largely revered in New England. The veteran completed 35 of them for 351 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Brady has also dominated the postseason, where he has compiled a record of 35-13, as well as a quarterback rating of 89.8. For them, Brady’s retirement will be welcomed with open arms — even causing a select few who have especially suffered at the hands of Brady-led teams, to erupt into decadent delight. This desire has served him well; reaching a level of rarefied air in securing seven Super Bowl championships, an accomplishment which no other NFL quarterback has ever enjoyed. Though he may have temporarily taken his talents to Tampa Bay, Tom Brady will forever be a Patriot in the eyes of many. Brady has won seven of the ten Super Bowls in which he has played, earning the big game’s MVP five times. In fact, he might be the most admired sports figure in the history of a city that has been the home to such icons as Williams, Orr, Bird, and Russell. Should this be the end of his illustrious career, Brady would finish with regular season totals of 89,214 passing yards, 649 touchdowns and a cumulative 64.3 completion percentage. Prior to his taking the reins as the Patriots starting quarterback in 2001, New England knew little but defeat. After a brief 40-day flirtation with retirement last offseason, Brady decided to return for another season with the Buccaneers. Still, Brady finished his 8-9 regular season having respectably completed 66.8 percent of his passes for 4694 yards and 25 touchdowns with nine interceptions.

Coach Arthur Smith needs to hire a new defensive coordinator. There are 21 Super Bowl MVP winners currently in the Hall of Fame, with future locks (like Tom Brady, Ray Lewis and Aaron Rodgers) to follow. Not bad for a sixth-round draft pick. Brady showed he has plenty left in the regular season despite playing behind an injury-depleted offensive line and without star tight end Rob Gronkowski, who retired in the offseason. Brady hadn’t been shut out in the first half of playoff game since his first one in 2001, the Tuck Rule game on Jan. Brady is set to become a free agent, so he could choose to continue his unprecedented career with another team. He threw a career-most 66 passes, completing 35 of them for 351 yards, two TDs and one interception. Brady had 65 attempts for New England against San Francisco on Dec. The 45-year-old, five-time Super Bowl MVP already retired once after last season only to return 40 days later.

If he wanted to go back home to the Patriots, I’m sure those doors would be open. If he wanted to go back home to the San Francisco 49ers, I’m sure that would be open. While the GOAT makes up his mind on his playing future, the Bucs have big decisions to make on the coaching staff and the roster.

Greg Auman is FOX Sports’ NFC South reporter, covering the Buccaneers, Falcons, Panthers and Saints. The 2023 Bucs could have a very different identity if Brady is retired or playing elsewhere, but they'll have the expectation of competing for a division title, if not more, despite all the change that's likely ahead. [Russell Gage](https://www.foxsports.com/nfl/russell-gage-player), who was injured late in Monday's game and carted off the field while immobilized. Bowles took over as head coach at the end of March, so he was left to inherit Bruce Arians' coaching staff, and if there are changes to be made, it makes sense to do them soon, before top replacements are grabbed by other teams building their own new coaching staffs. We just weren’t good in the running game. "There is no one thing that you can point to, to say we weren’t good in the running game. The Bucs finished with the league's worst running attack, and Bowles said that shouldn't be attributed to just blocking or his running backs. "When you have an offseason and everyone has their own personal trainer and you come back, you're not really together at that point." "I appreciate all the texts, calls, thoughts and prayers you all have expressed towards my family and I," Gage wrote on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon. David is the longest-tenured Bucs player, having finished his 11th season, spanning five coaches and going from years without a playoff berth to the current three-year postseason streak. As Florio went on to point out, Tagovailoa is set to earn $4.738 million in 2023, the final year of his rookie deal. Brady has already achieved so much in his career but if there is any way to add to his legacy, winning a Super Bowl with the Jets is it. Then there is the question of who takes over as new offensive coordinator. Could Miami be in the market for a quarterback again? The 24-year-old was playing at an MVP-calibre level under coach Mike McDaniel, that was until multiple concussions would bring his best-ever season to an early close. If there is one thing that will make Brady’s life easier it’s playing for a top defensive unit and the Jets are just that. “It is a reality check on where the Patriots are as a franchise. That is despite the spotlight intensifying on Brandon Staley’s coaching credentials after the Chargers’ 27-point capitulation against the Jaguars. Would they be willing to part ways this soon, without having the best idea of just how good he could be? The Patriots would love Brady back but it’s unlikely the feeling is mutual. Zach Wilson clearly isn’t the answer and will be playing as back-up next season, regardless of who gets brought in. “The issue goes beyond Brady, as far as the Bucs are concerned, they have to deal with this salary cap thing head-on.

Buccaneers QB options if Tom Brady leaves in 2023 (ClutchPoints)

After three seasons and one Super Bowl victory, Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers may be headed their separate ways this offseason.

For the past two seasons, he has served as the QB3 on the roster, behind both Tom Brady and Blaine Gabbert. Over his six postseason starts, he has thrown for 962 passing yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions. If the Buccaneers wish to look internally for their future QB1, it could be worth taking a shot on Trask. He has thrown for 14,289 passing yards, 87 touchdowns, and 42 interceptions. The Buccaneers could be the perfect landing spot. Before going down with a broken foot, he threw for 2,437 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and just four interceptions. Brissett has proven that he can perform at a high level in the NFL. He has thrown for 10,350 passing yards, 48 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions. And he also has legitimate playoff experience. Over his nine NFL seasons, he has taken the field in 74 regular season games. Bradu has been the face of the NFL for the past two decades. Since being drafted by the Patriots in 2016, Brissett has had multiple starting jobs.
