New Arizona Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort Already off to Strong Start (Sports Illustrated)

The Arizona Cardinals have officially introduced new general manager Monti Ossenfort. Here's everything you need to know about their new leader.

He knows expectations come with a name being tied to the Patriots and their Super Bowl wins over the last twenty years, but he isn’t naïve to it coming to him easily in Arizona. 31 of the trades did come during the first three rounds of the draft, with lots of talent to grab early in the draft and accumulating picks in the process. At his introductory press conference on Tuesday, Ossenfort showed a stern but passionate speech on what he wants from the top to bottom of this organization. He spent 15 of his 21 seasons in the NFL with the New England Patriots. Keim had been with the team since he started as a regional scout in 1999. Ossenfort was previously with the Tennessee Titans since 2020 where he worked as the director of player personnel under former general manager Jon Robinson.

"I think it is related, (but) it was described in a different way," Bidwill said. Baker was among the veterans owner Michael Bidwill said he would talk to as he worked to fill the GM and head coach roles.

GM Monti Ossenfort focused on ego-less approach with Cardinals (Arizona Sports)

Fresh into his new role, Arizona Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort's checklist is lengthy and detailed.

We’re going to look for the right type of players. “The little things make all the difference,” Ossenfort said. He’s building for sustained success, not a quick fix that ultimately sends the organization backward in the long run. The first order of business is getting Murray back on the field healthy. “There’s one goal here: to win,” the GM added. “We’re going to turn over every stone to find the right players for this team,” Ossenfort said Tuesday.

“The benefit is we’re going to be ready to pick a premium player that’s going to be able to come in here and have an impact on our team,” he said. We’ll be ready to take a good player and we’ll be ready to listen to offers, too.” 3 overall pick in this year’s draft and other than saying, “I hope we don’t pick third overall again,” he gave an honest and detailed response to the question. “And we’re going to do everything in our power to help him get healthy,” he added. “We’re looking for a head coach that can develop all the players and Kyler being a big part of that. He’ll be working on that in the coming weeks and I’m sure we’ll talk about that more.” Ossenfort, who spent the past three seasons as the director of player personnel for the Titans, has already started the process of evaluating the Cardinals’ roster and he said there is more to do there. “After the end of that 20-minute interview, I think I was ready to run through a brick wall for Budda Baker. I knew that, but it was also good to hear and see that from our players and then to see that that’s what Monti Ossenfort is all about.” “It’s absolutely something our players are interested in and that was something I had in my mind when I was evaluating what a great talent evaluator Monti is, what a great leader he is and what his work ethic and passion is around – winning football. But I distinctly remember, I was with the Patriots at the time, and Budda came in and I interviewed Budda at the combine for our 20-minute interview. That is something that Monti and I have talked about and it’s clear that that’s going to be an emphasis here.
