He helped guide the Lions' program to a school-record 11 wins and its first conference title (Southern) since 1961 with a 7-0 league record. Alabama's defense finished the 2018 season ranked third nationally in scoring (18.1 ppg) and 16th in total defense (319.5 ypg). The rushing defense was 19th nationally (121.3 ypg) while the pass efficiency defense ranked 23rd. In his first season with the Roadrunners in 2016, Golding helped lead the program to six wins and its first bowl game – the 2016 Gildan New Mexico Bowl. The 2022 Alabama defense again proved to be one of the best in the nation, ranking ninth in scoring defense (18.2) and 13th in total defense (318.2 ypg). Prior to Alabama, Golding coached defensive backs and handled defensive coordinator duties at the University of Texas-San Antonio in 2016 and 2017. Golding's 2020 defense led the SEC in scoring (19.0 ppg) and got better as the season progressed, allowing just 15 points per game over the final nine contests en route to the national championship. Golding joined the UTSA staff after spending two years as an assistant at Southern Miss where he coached the safeties. Golding's 2017 defense at UTSA ranked seventh in the Football Bowl Subdivision, allowing just 287.8 yards per game. Middle linebacker Henry To'oTo'o led the team with 112 tackles, while Anderson set the NCAA record (since 2000) for tackles for loss in a season with 34.5. Anderson became the first Alabama player ever to earn unanimous All-America honors after leading the SEC and finishing No.

That's a slight uptick from 2021, when the Rebels allowed 24.7 points per contest. He spoke to Perkins on the field after Perkins won the 3A state title in Hattiesburg last month. Edge Rusher Peter Bario Commits to UCLA Football As Walk-On (Sports Illustrated)

Another class of 2023 recruit has announced his intentions to join the Bruins next fall, giving them more depth on the edge.

Bario is likely going to not play much in 2023 as he fills a similar role to other preferred walk-ons who have entered the program before him. The Bruins' defensive end group is going to be made up of Gabriel and Grayson Murphy, Laiatu Latu, Carl Jones and UPenn transfer Jake Heimlicher heading into 2023. The Los Angeles native won Defensive Line MVP at the You Are Athlete Regional Exposure Camp in his hometown last March. Class of 2023 edge/defensive end Peter Bario announced his commitment to UCLA football Friday night. In 11 games, Bario accumulated 60 tackles, 19.0 tackles for loss, 11.0 sacks, two pass deflections, one interception, one blocked field goal and 23 quarterback hurries. 4, taking less than two weeks to pledge to the Bruins.

Alabama football defensive coordinator search: Who will replace ... (Tuscaloosa Magazine)

Alabama football must hire a new defensive coordinator with Pete Golding leaving. Here are some candidates for Nick Saban to consider.

He played for Saban in college at Michigan State when Saban was defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. Since then, he has coached the corners at West Virginia before going to Houston where he has served as co-defensive coordinator, associate head coach and now defensive coordinator the past two seasons. He worked for Saban at Michigan State as a defensive line coach and assistant head coach. He joined the Wisconsin staff as defensive backs coach in 2016. He checks the box as someone who has been on Saban's staff at one point. He also spent time as a defensive backs coach and director of player development under Saban. It's just a question of whether Saban would want him back and if Steele would want to leave Miami. Pruitt and Lupoi also worked as defensive position coaches at one point for Alabama before returning to his staff to be a defensive coordinator. Does Saban go the route of hiring a young defensive coordinator again? but Smart had been a defensive assistant at LSU and with the Miami Dolphins under Saban as well as one season at Alabama. Golding joined Saban's staff as co-defensive coordinator in 2018 and has served as the defensive coordinator since 2019. “The hope is to maybe get another ELF offer for a full season, because I believe if I was to go over and play a full season as a No. When he returned home, living in Windham with his mother, Gloria LaGrange, Loureiro worked “a lot of random jobs.” But he still had the itch to play football. “There’s a reason why he got called up to the (ELF). If I can, I’d rather be traveling the world and playing football.” Bachelder, who was at UMaine, already had it in his mind to play for the semipro Southern Maine Raging Bulls, get some game film highlights, and then try to connect with teams in Europe. He also was a coach and player on the Budapest Titans, which played in Division I (the second-best level in Hungary). As a freshman at Husson, Loureiro played in two games backing up senior John Smith, the all-time leading college rusher in Maine, regardless of division. Loureiro also got a one-game call up with the Wroclaw Panthers, a Polish team in the European League of Football. Loureiro added, “I’ve only played at the (NCAA) Division III and semipro level. The level was more like semipro in Maine,” he said. “I had to come home to work,” said the 2017 graduate of Westbrook High. He also was the team’s strong-side linebacker, scored two defensive touchdowns, punted and returned kicks.

Why Jeremy Pruitt's NCAA trouble could keep him from Alabama ... (Tuscaloosa Magazine)

Jeremy Pruitt should be at the top of list for Alabama football's next defensive coordinator, but NCAA trouble could get in the way.

Alabama would be gambling the case would be over soon, and it would be gambling he wouldn’t get a show-cause order. Saban would have to determine if it’s worth the time, effort and gamble as he tries to get Alabama back on track after missing the College Football Playoff for only the second time this season since it began in 2014. If he did, Alabama would be gambling it could beat the order to get him eligible to coach. Among the violations the NCAA found, Tennessee players, recruits and families received almost $60,000 in cash and gifts. The question is whether he would be allowed to run a college defense right now. Pruitt could still get hit with a show-cause order, which means any penalties he receives from his UT tenure could follow him to Alabama or any other school that hires him. Follow him on Twitter: [Tennessee fired Pruitt from his job as head coach for cause.](https://www.knoxnews.com/story/sports/college/university-of-tennessee/football/2021/01/18/jeremy-pruitt-fired-tennessee-football-coaching-search-vols/6413502002/) The school alleged serious recruiting violations against him. Those are only two of the violations the investigation found. It could be successful, but that’s not guaranteed. Georgia football final thoughts: Bulldogs' season changes one ... (The Athletic)

Diving into doubters who don't exist, Stetson Bennett's legacy and the talented coaching staff.

He was the ultimate unselfish teammate, and I’ll always say he was just as important to this year’s offense as [Brock Bowers](https://theathletic.com/college-football/player/brock-bowers-gaI5cW5ZN1JalPRG/). And now the quest for a three-peat begins, a quest that many if not most experts are predicting Georgia to pull off. [Ohio State](https://theathletic.com/college-football/team/ohio-state-buckeyes-college-football/). Maybe Smart and the Bulldogs played loose with the facts when it came to doubters. [to be the defensive coordinator.](https://theathletic.com/4090506/2023/01/14/alabama-defensive-coordinator-candidates-pete-golding/) Maybe Smart cuts that off with a raise. Stroud](https://theathletic.com/college-football/player/cj-stroud-7mrNtrxhrUowDbsL/) get downfield for a game-winning field goal attempt. So ultimately it will come down to A) whether Nick Saban wants him, and then B) whether Schumann believes it’s better for his career. If he never plays a down in the NFL, it doesn’t take anything away from what he did in college. And this year, Georgia also did it via the air: 492 passing attempts, compared to 407 in the same number of games last year. That’s also why you may have to wait awhile for the books and movies to come out. Yes, plenty of odes to [Todd Monken have been written](https://theathletic.com/4040969/2022/12/28/todd-monken-uga/), but let’s also remember where Georgia was three years ago when Monken arrived and how doubts persisted even into this year. Smart was accused of being a dinosaur when it came to offense, a micromanager who only wanted to run the ball.
