Mike LaFleur parts ways with Jets, should draw interest from the Saints (Saints Wire)

Much like Kyle Shanahan once left the Browns, offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur has left the Jets -- and the Saints should give him a call.

With the New Orleans ranking near the bottom of the NFL (31) and the Jets in the top ten (9) in pre-snap motion rate. The former offensive rookie of the year could go from massively underutilized in 2022, to having an offense built around his skills set in 2023. He’ll need to learn how to adjust with his personnel when injuries do inevitably happen and the Saints would need to invest in their running back room around Kamara. [opposite sides of the spectrum when it came to pre-snap motion](https://twitter.com/SethWalder/status/1571907998750056448?s=20&t=5EhbVVX7SA0KHxe1n2ny3g). New Orlean is also uniquely positions to answer the running back issue LaFleur was presented with thanks to one of the league’s best in Alvin Kamara. Moving players post-snap on 31% of their run plays and on only %1 of their passing plays [per ESPN’s Seth Walder](https://twitter.com/SethWalder/status/1571897521131196417?s=20&t=5EhbVVX7SA0KHxe1n2ny3g). Just go watch one of the Jets’ early-season games and you see it. His scheme is one that fans would love to see in New Orleans and does a lot of what they asked to see from the Saints this year. While the New Orleans Saints don’t currently have a coaching staff position available, there is a chance they open up a search at offensive coordinator this offseason. 30 in EPA/play and No. 25 in total yardage, No. 29 in scoring, No.

5 candidates for Jets to replace Mike LaFleur as offensive cordinator ... (amNY)

The New York Jets have mutually parted ways with offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur. LaFleur had been garnering interest elsewhere around the league and ...

If the Jets want an experienced play-caller but not with as much head coaching baggage as others on this list, Hamilton could be a perfect choice. Caldwell, Reich, and Bevell all have experience calling plays and have experience getting the most out of players. It’s a long shot because multiple teams will be looking to hire Reich to be head coach, but if he gets passed along in this cycle, the Jets should absolutely take a swing here. Even with all that, Reich is still one of the brightest minds in football with experience in getting the best out of quarterbacks. While Bevell has struggled as an offensive coordinator for the Jaguars and Lions in recent years, poor quarterback play was a key part. An experienced play-caller will want to come to Florham Park only if the understanding of who he is calling plays for is settled.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- After a season marked by profound struggles on offense and the regression of quarterback Zach Wilson, the New York Jets and offensive ...

The players have to meet you in the middle with it, but you want all these guys to play at their absolute best and we all know that Zach hasn't played at his absolute best." "I seemed like [opponents] had an idea of what we were trying to do, and they did a good job of stopping us once they got the film together," Garrett Wilson said. All told, they went the final 31 possessions of the season without a touchdown, the league's longest streak in 2022. They went back to Wilson when White was injured, but Wilson played poorly and was benched again. Saleh indicated he "definitely" wants to hire a senior offensive assistant, essentially to fill the role that was created in 2021 for the late Greg Knapp. The Jets opened with Saleh's hope was that LaFleur, a first-time coordinator, would grow with Wilson, drafted second overall in 2021. The Jets will have at least two positions to fill on the offensive staff. "This is a production-based business; you're not going to run from that," LaFleur said last week. LaFleur is the younger brother of The search for a replacement begins Thursday. The Jets claimed that wasn't the case, with general manager Joe Douglas saying Monday that Saleh has the final say on coaching-staff decisions.

NFL teams are inquiring on Mike LaFleur, brother of Packers HC Matt (Acme Packing Company)

Mike was Matt LaFleur's first choice for offensive coordinator in 2019.

Don’t rule out any of those trio of coaches to fill in an analyst role, if an on-field coaching role doesn’t open up for the Packers. [As ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentioned](https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1084124921519894529), the 49ers also blocked the interview requests for Mike McDaniel (the current [Miami Dolphins](https://www.thephinsider.com/) head coach) and Rich Scangarello (most recently the [Kentucky Wildcats](https://www.aseaofblue.com)’ offensive coordinator) that offseason. Just because the team isn’t making a change in on-field coaches in 2023 doesn’t mean that Hackett, LaFleur and/or Outten couldn’t be added to Green Bay this season. At the time, [49ers](https://www.ninersnation.com/) head coach Mike Shanahan blocked an interview request from the Packers, [Cleveland Browns](https://www.dawgsbynature.com/) and [Minnesota Vikings](https://www.dailynorseman.com/) for their coordinator openings. While Matt LaFleur stated that he doesn’t anticipate much, if any, [change to Green Bay’s coaching staff next season](https://www.acmepackingcompany.com/2023/1/10/23548131/matt-lafleur-anticipates-packers-coaching-staff-to-return-for-2023-including-joe-barry), it’s hard to ignore how many available coaches have ties to his coaching tree. Beyond Hackett and the younger LaFleur, it’s expected that Justin Outten, the Packers’ tight end coach from 2019 to 2022, will be relieved of his duties as the Broncos’ offensive coordinator when they make a head coaching hire.

Jets Make More Coaching Changes After Parting With Mike LaFleur (Sports Illustrated)

The New York Jets are moving on from offensive line coach John Benton and wide receiver coach Miles Austin, in addition to offensive coordinator Mike ...

New York's offense struggled mightily down the stretch, with a clear weakness in the run game and on the offensive line (not to mention poor play at the quarterback position). "He's been coaching in this league for a very long time, I've been with him for a very long time. That led to the decision to part ways and look for a new offensive coordinator. "Just talking with Mike, just felt like it would be in everyone's best interest for him to pursue those opportunities," Saleh told reporters on Thursday. AP source: Mike LaFleur out as Jets' offensive coordinator (Raleigh News & Observer)

LaFleur's future with the team was uncertain after Zach Wilson struggled mightily in his second season and the offense was among the worst in the NFL for two ...

Saleh said Monday he “definitely” was planning to hire a senior offensive assistant to help improve the offense and to work with Wilson. That led to a revolving door at the quarterback position with Wilson, Mike White and Joe Flacco all starting games. “They want the instant gratification of these rookies, these second-year guys to be superstars and understandably so. The 36-year-old LaFleur, the younger brother of Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur, was a first-time coordinator when he joined Saleh and the Jets in 2021. Saleh brought in Matt Cavanaugh and John Beck, Wilson's personal quarterback coach, last season but then chose to not have a veteran offensive assistant this season. There was increasing speculation LaFleur could be on the way out after Robert Saleh's Jets finished 7-10 with a season-ending six-game losing streak.

Jets' Woody Johnson: Ousting Mike LaFleur was Robert Saleh's call (New York Post)

Robert Saleh continued to insist that offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur was allowed to pursue other opportunities rather than just saying the team fired ...

“We’re going to attack the heck out of our O-line with regards to getting healthy and adding to it,” Saleh said. I had private conversations with the coach and general manager and with Mike, too.” There is a belief around the NFL that Jets owner Woody Johnson told Saleh to fire LaFleur, whom Saleh brought with him from San Francisco two years ago.
