Bengals' Joe Mixon trolls NFL with coin flip TD celebration (ESPN)

Bengals running back Joe Mixon trolled the NFL by pulling a coin out and flipping it in the air after scoring a first-quarter touchdown against the Ravens.

The scenario was part of a proposal approved by the league to account for the canceled game between the "So we have the opportunity to play for a coin flip. After Mixon scored on a 1-yard touchdown run, he pulled a coin out of a glove and flipped it in the end zone, followed with an emphatic kick through the air after it landed. We don't have the opportunity to play for a coin flip that will positively impact us." And on Friday, Bengals coach Zac Taylor lashed out about the rule changes. He bought about five boxes of cigars that players enjoyed in the locker room. Bengals executive vice president Katie Blackburn sent a memo to all clubs to vote against the proposal that was eventually approved, according to ESPN's Seth Wickersham.

Coin tossed: Bengals clinch 1st-round home playoff game with a win ... (Cincinnati.com)

The Bengals had already clinched the AFC North, but they made one final statement with a win over the Ravens.

“There’s no easy path into the NFL, into the playoffs and to the Super Bowl,” Burrow said. Burrow is the quarterback who had to transfer to LSU to be a starter and then became one of the best quarterbacks in college football history. He still hasn't had a “normal” offseason in the NFL, and he had to recover from an appendectomy at the start of the year. “We’ve had that whole narrative the whole year,” Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson said. If the Bengals win, then they’ll likely have to travel to Buffalo to face the Bills. “Everyone thought last year was a fluke, that we don’t deserve to be in the playoffs. Burrow admitted that he missed some throws that he “always makes,” but he hit on a 26-yard touchdown down the left sideline to wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase as the Bengals held a three-score lead for most of the game. Taylor leaned into that idea by showing the team clips from the movie “Gladiator” on Saturday night. It shows how cool our locker room is, for someone to come out with that idea and have fun with it instead of (complain) about (the coin toss situation).” Mixon used a touchdown celebration to show how the Bengals were feeling. Over the last week, Burrow also made a point to check in one-on-one with his teammates and tell them that he loved them. The Bengals just beat the Baltimore Ravens, 27-16, at Paycor Stadium to clinch a first-round home playoff game and put a stamp on their AFC North championship season.

Bengals' Joe Mixon breaks out epic coin flip celebration vs. Ravens (NBC Sports Bay Area)

Bengals running back Joe Mixon flipped a coin and then kicked it away when he scored against the Ravens on Sunday.

With the Ravens starting rookie quarterback Anthony Brown and resting key players Mark Andrews and J.K. Dobbins, the Bengals aren’t having much trouble squashing the potential coin flip scenario. If the Bengals (11-4) lose to the Ravens (10-6) in Week 18 and they were to face in the wild card round, the league would flip a coin to decide home field.

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - The Cincinnati Bengals end the regular season on an eight-game win streak to lock up the No. 3 seed in the AFC playoffs.

Knee-Jerk Reactions: Bengals 27 Ravens 16 (russellstreetreport.com)

The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Baltimore Ravens 27-16 in Week 18. The Ravens rested many of their starters, however.

It’s obvious to say this game would be different with Lamar and the starters in, and we might see that, as the Ravens will play the Bengals next week. The Ravens are on to the playoffs. To say the offense was bad would be an understatement, but of course, we know why it was so bad. But to a man – Pro Bowlers, backups and practice-squaders alike – this team played with the effort and the confidence of a winning football team today. The defense played good enough to keep this game interesting. The effort of the team in a weird finale is something to praise. Shoutout to the Ravens defense today. Harbaugh’s decision to rest starters was a good one in my opinion because it’s hard to beat a team twice let alone back to back weeks. I’m proud that the Ravens kind of made it a game. This was basically a preseason game, with both teams running basic plays on both sides of the ball, not wanting to tip their hands for next week. That was the perfect continuation of the Bengals’ ridiculous bellyaching that they did all week following the decision from the NFL that a coin flip might determine the sight of the Wild Card game between the Bengals and Ravens. They actually outgained the Bengals by over 100 yards and held the Cinci offense to 33% on third down conversions.

Is it fair to expect another four turnovers when [Anthony Brown](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/anthony-brown-P7aQOH45O2lAuZbY/) is watching from the sideline? That’s the thing with Burrow and these Bengals. The Bengals offense couldn’t move the ball after halftime and looked sluggish for long stretches against one of the best defenses in football. Ravens vs. Bengals takeaways and everything to know from Week 18 (Bengals Wire)

The Cincinnati Bengals wrapped up home-field advantage for the opening round of the playoffs with Sunday's 27-16 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

That was put on full display before halftime as the ground game pushed the Bengals down the field for seven points despite no serious passing threat at QB. — Basic, checkdown-filled drive for the Bengals on their first effort. In Week 15 against the Bucs, the Bengals fell behind 17-0 before surging back to win. Right side of the line was already depleted with La’el Collins lost for the season. The Bengals couldn’t afford to lose another starter to that unit, so it’s a worst-case scenario if he has to miss a playoff game. Whether Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson returns for the playoff game or it’s Tyler Huntley, the Bengals are going to see a much tougher Ravens team in a week. Cincinnati’s defense remains elite and capable of handling any offense, but things don’t project to be nearly as simple when it matters the most. A brief check on Tyler Boyd for a concussion and check on Tee Higgins after a midsection shot weren’t bad. The idea, arguably, is keeping it simple Sunday will give them an advantage when they roll out more complex looks in a rematch with the Ravens a week later. Playing starters as much as they did on Sunday probably wasn’t what the Bengals wanted to do. It’s at least a little concerning given how great he looked on the seven-game tear and right before the Bills game ended in the first quarter. But he missed multiple surefire touchdown passes in the first half.

There’s already a rule in the rule book so I don’t know why you have to go to another rule,” DJ Reader said. It is well documented that the new coin flip rule which was voted on late last week was not well received by the Cincinnati Bengals organization. “It was great feeling,” Ted Karras said with a smile. The smell of celebratory cigars and sweat filled the air as Joe Burrow handed cigars out like candy to his teammates with one already lit in his mouth. Sunday Night Should be Fun! (russellstreetreport.com)

The Bengals capture the AFC North with a 27-16 win over the Ravens. The teams will do it again on Sunday and it promises to be chippy.

It will be interesting to see how the line moves if Lamar practices on Wednesday. Either this is a design flaw, poor positional coaching or bad execution by the pass catchers. But he isn’t alone when it comes to the pitfalls of the team’s offense. He did a celebratory summersault going off the field. I think we can win with this football team, the quarterbacks that we have on our roster. Or, he can choose to sit out again, and fan the flames of speculation. They didn’t look like a team that missed an opportunity to win the AFC North, priority No. That approach was further cemented after we learned that [Marcus Peters](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/P/PeteMa00.htm?utm_medium=linker&utm_source=russellstreetreport.com&utm_campaign=2023-01-09_pfr), [Brandon Stephens](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/StepBr01.htm?utm_medium=linker&utm_source=russellstreetreport.com&utm_campaign=2023-01-09_pfr), [J.K. Despite the Bengals pomp and circumstance – never mind all their pregame chatter to send a message about how the league stiffed them by not following the winning percentage rules (per head coach Zach Taylor), the Ravens were the far more physical team. The Ravens may have lost the battle, but they set the stage to win the war.
