ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Four Wolverines scored in double-digits as the Michigan men's basketball team beat Penn State, 79-69, on Wednesday night at the Crisler ...

[Joey Baker](//247sports.com/Player/Joey-Baker-94158) triples kept U-M in ahead through the middle portions of the first half, though a 1-for-7 stretch meant the lead was cut to six at the under-eight timeout. The Wolverines travel to East Lansing for their first rivalry game of the season against Michigan State. Bufkin missed an awkward-looking pull-up, and Evan Mahaffey’s half-court heave went off the backboard and in to make it 42-34 at the break. made two impressive plays, first executing a smooth spin move for a finish at the rim before an emphatic alley-oop finish on a lob from [Kebba Njie](//247sports.com/Player/Kebba-Njie-46099539), drawing the crowd to its feet, and they erupted moments later when Terrance Williams II buried a triple. That was enough to overcome a 26-point, eight-rebound night from Penn State guard [Jalen Pickett](//247sports.com/Player/Jalen-Pickett-46115809). Williams II made two free throws, then Dickinson grabbed a rebound on the other end to send a happy crowd to the exits. A McDaniel free throw and steal meant the Wolverines were up five with 3:41 to play. Thought Penn State hit half of its eight 3-pointers across the first nine minutes, the Wolverines maintained their advantage by doing much of their damage inside. Williams II grabbed a key defensive rebound following a missed free throw from Pickett with 53 seconds left to help secure the result. From there, Michigan could seal the game from the line. Two free throws from Lundy made it a six-point game with 5:30 to play.

Michigan wins turnover battle against Penn State (The Michigan Daily)

Michigan men's basketball and Penn State both commit amongst the fewest turnovers in NCAA, but the Wolverines committed fewer on Wednesday.

Keeping Penn State away from extra possessions helped Michigan win a game that came down to just three points in the second half. That inspired play was evident on the other end of the floor as well, where Michigan held to form and limited offensive turnovers. With the crowd on its feet as the run ballooned to 11-0, sophomore guard Kobe Bufkin poked the ball out of a Nittany Lion’s hands near half court, leading to a scrum for the ball that left Dickinson bloodied. On the ensuing possession, after the court was cleaned of Dickinson’s blood, the Wolverines’ sound defense forced a shot clock violation — another timely turnover against a team that rarely commits them. Forcing eight turnovers and scoring 15 points off of them — while committing just three of its own — gave Michigan an edge in a game that became tight in the last two minutes. By halftime, the Nittany Lions had committed four turnovers to the Wolverines’ zero.

Michigan enjoyed a blowout win over Maryland on New Year’s Day and is back on the court on Wednesday night, facing a Penn State team in red-hot form. They have already suffered three losses to teams ranked outside the top 25 in Virginia Tech, Clemson and Michigan State, so this is shaping up to be a competitive game. He scored 32 points on 13-for-16 shooting in his last game and should be in line to post something along those lines again in this game. Points should also be scored at the other end of the court though, as Dickinson could be in for a big night against the small Nittany Lions’ frontcourt. The Wolverines blew out Maryland 81-46 on New Year’s Day, so confidence should be high heading into this tough matchup.

Michigan Basketball: 3 takeaways from a purposeful win over Penn ... (GBMWolverine)

A hot Penn State club came into Crisler on Wednesday night and left with their first blemish in six games thanks to the victorious Wolverines.

Minnesota is clearly the worst school in the league and they caught Maryland napping for their first win of 2023. They built off their win over Maryland on new year’s day by winning by double digits over a Big Ten foe for the third time in as many tries. It was an equal effort for pretty much everyone involved to scratch and claw their way past a streaking Nittany Lions squad.
