The Best N.B.A. Rebounding Training: Battling 14 Siblings (The New York Times)

Memphis Grizzlies center Steven Adams is great at snagging his team's missed shots. His childhood may be the secret to his muscle.

So being a part of one — and even helping to create one — was something he prioritized when he joined the Thunder as the No. With the Grizzlies, Adams has been on a tear. Here, again, he cites being a part of a big family growing up. He theorized that a lot of them were only children. If he was a good teammate, Adams also irritated opponents. He also writes about feeling isolated at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Fitchburg, Mass., where he spent a postgraduate season before enrolling at the University of Pittsburgh. In the middle of a late timeout, We play games every other day, so you need to get at the root of the problem.” A former sidekick to the likes of Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant in Oklahoma City, Adams is now a one-man team-building operation in Memphis, where Ja Morant, So much of Adams’s approach as a basketball player is rooted in his childhood. Memphis Grizzlies scouting reports (Hoops Hype)

HoopsHype presents scouting reports for the Memphis Grizzlies 2022-23 players, including Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr.

High-energy player on offense and on the glass… Not much of an athlete but more than makes up for that with great feel for the game… Has lost a step on defense… Could be a streaky shooter on occasion… Plenty of experience on the big stage… One of the worst free-throw shooters in the league…

Quick Recap: Memphis Grizzlies roll past Charlotte Hornets (Grizzly Bear Blues)

The Memphis Grizzlies look to extend their winning streak to four games on the road, matching against the Charlotte Hornets for the final time this season.

The Grizzlies score over a hundred in the 3rd, ending the quarter 102-73. The Grizzlies achieved the win 131-107. The Grizzlies still were on fire coming out of the half to an 11-7 run. The Grizzlies close the half with a fantastic block from Jaren Jackson and put up a season-high 76 points in the first half to the Hornets’ 47 points. The Grizzlies continued to expand their lead to start the second quarter. The Grizzlies ended the quarter scoring 40 points and having nine assists.

What we learned in the Charlotte Hornets' blowout home loss to ... (Charlotte Observer)

Cody Martin finally returned after missing 37 games, but it did little to spark the Hornets in a 131-107 home loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Ball ranks as the Hornets’ leading scorer, and he added to that mark with another double-double, tossing in 23 points and distributing 12 assists. That’s part of the process and my teammates are doing a good job on instilling confidence as well as our staff, and I’m just going to continue to play and get better.” There’s not much to get excited about with the Hornets. That was the plan and now it’ll be a little bit different.” I’m just trying to get back in the flow and find my rhythm. “Our plan was obviously that Gordon (Hayward) and Kelly (Oubre) would be here, too, but we need to be more balanced, and those two guys are two of our better perimeter defenders to guard primary scorers. It’s going to come back, it’s going to come around. “The thing about the NBA is — and I totally agree with this – it’s never about what you say to your team,” Clifford said. “It’s frustrating, especially because in a perfect situation everybody would like to come back exactly where you left off,” Martin said. Cody Martin was a step slow and definitely not up to game speed just yet. Charlotte allowed 76 points in the first half, which is two shy of the most it has yielded this season. It seems like every time we start to play better (like) on the West Coast trip or (against) Oklahoma City, we lose someone.

Injury Report Grizzlies: OUT Kennedy Chandler + Vince Williams + Jake LaRavia + Kenneth Lofton Jr (G-League), Brandon Clarke (LT Hip), Danny Green (Lt Knee.

I expect Rozier to get the job of guarding Morant, but at this point in the year where wins are worthless I would prefer the team to stop hiding LaMelo and give him some reps guarding the other team's primary ball handler. Both sides are missing key players, but as long as Jaren Jackson can stay out of foul trouble I expect Memphis to come out with the win. Memphis are the Grade A example of how to balance competing for the playoffs while developing young players.

ORLANDO: Markelle Fultz, Cole Anthony, Terrence Ross, Paolo Banchero, Wendell Carter Jr. The Memphis Grizzlies travel to Orlando tonight for their second ...

The Grizzlies are on a four-game win streak and they seem locked in after dropping four of five. In the Grizzlies’ wins against Toronto, New Orleans and Sacramento, the team played in sync and everyone contributed. If the Grizzlies are able to get Franz Wagner into a switch, Morant will thrive as Wagner has a defensive rating of 117.2, the 16th-lowest defensive rating in the NBA. The Grizzlies are 9-10 away from the FedEx Forum this season, and tonight is the second game of a back-to-back. While Memphis has plenty of good defenders like Desmond Bane and Steven Adams, the Grizzlies’ true defensive stars are Dillon Brooks and Jaren Jackson Jr., both of whom are contenders for Defensive Player of the Year. Markelle Fultz has a defensive rating of 112.9 and Cole Anthony has a defensive rating of 114.1. The Grizzlies are currently second in defensive net rating, only 0.2 points behind the With so many superstars having career performances in the last few weeks, I believe Morant is up next and it could come tonight. In order to avoid a trap loss, how can the Grizzlies come away with their tenth road victory? Orlando, only three games away from a play-in spot, is loaded with young talent, and while they could try to add another top pick to their young core, the Magic might prefer to get their studs some good reps and pick up some wins. While these squads faced off twice in the preseason, Memphis and Orlando have not met yet in the regular season. However, he is shooting 82.6% from the line, up from 64.9% in the five games prior.

The Orlando Magic will look to keep their New Year's momentum rolling when they host the Memphis Grizzlies at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday.

He’s mature physically for a rookie and a (20) year old, and he’s really mature in terms of his game. However, Brandon Clarke (left hip soreness), Danny Green (left knee surgery recovery), Jake LaRavia (G League – On Assignment) and Kenneth Lofton Jr. “(Defense has to be) our calling card as a team,” said Magic forward Paolo Banchero, who was recently named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for December 2022. (G League – Two-Way) did not play last night against the Charlotte Hornets. Jalen Suggs (right ankle soreness) is available and will make his return. They’re also elite in transition, putting up the third-most fast break points per contest (17.9). “Defensively, protecting the paint, you know you hold them to thirty points in the paint. The Magic maximized that time by squeezing in two rest days, a pair of practices and a shootaround between those affairs. Attack the paint, spray out, find the open man, and find the open man with confidence.” On offense, the Grizzlies score the most points in the paint in the association, pouring in 58.9 of them per game. Part of Orlando’s success can be attributed to four non-game days in between its last game of 2022 – a Dec. Obviously, we’ll need to take care of the basketball better, but our ability to share it and protect the paint is one thing that we are continuing to work on and continuing to improve.”

Memphis Grizzlies News: December stats, takeaways, and outlook (Beale Street Bears)

Although they had some bumps, the Memphis Grizzlies had quite a successful December as they worked toward another playoff appearance.

Memphis is putting on a defensive display, and taking those stops, or turnovers quickly to the other end on the fastbreak and with a quicker style of play, almost as if they desire to get back to the defensive end of the ball. This time, the Grizzlies were the fourth-fastest team in terms of possession (or PACE). Memphis was first in blocks in the month of December with 101 total blocks, and sixth in total steals with 143. Memphis had the highest defensive rating at 104, allowing the second-least amount of points on the fastbreak and the fewest in the paint. Memphis was also the second-best team in December (behind the Brooklyn Nets, who went 12-1 in December). Beyond the Arc: Memphis ranked 29th in the month of December for three-point percentage, shooting an abysmal 31.2%.

Orlando Magic vs. Memphis Grizzlies (Jan. 5, 2023): 3 Things To ... (Orlando Magic Daily)

The Orlando Magic look to build off a solid return to the win column on Wednesday as they take on the Memphis Grizzlies in a big test for the young team.

In the last 10 games, this potential star duo has played 201 minutes at a -0.3 net rating (111.1/111.4). They are not a strong 3-point shooting team and lean on offensive rebounding and putting pressure on the rim to create offense. That has included a lot of the poor lineups from earlier as the season when they had to man the point guard duties. But in the last 10 games, the Magic are 17th in opponent free throw rate at 28.6 percent. But the thing they are most likely excited to see is extended time with Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner on the floor together again after Wagner comes off his one-game suspension from Wednesday. [That proved to be time well spent](https://orlandomagicdaily.com/2022/12/28/orlando-magic-believe-brand-basketball-play/) as the Magic played much more effectively on both ends to [defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder](https://orlandomagicdaily.com/2023/01/04/orlando-magic-grades-paolo-banchero-makes-statement-finish-oklahoma-city-thunder/) on Wednesday. The team though is only 13th in opponent free throw attempts per game at 23.6 per game and 13th in opponent at free throw rate (27.0 percent). But what they did to hurt their own defense is how the lead dropped down to seven. Orlando has played some strong defense, but it can often get derailed with bad fouls and a parade to the foul line. Oklahoma City has a slightly better record than Orlando but could be fairly considered a peer for the Magic in the standings. That is how they built a 22-point lead against the Oklahoma City Thunder. [to get themselves right](https://orlandomagicdaily.com/2023/01/04/orlando-magic-hope-practice-reset-gets-right/) and work on their foundations.

Brandon Clarke is also out for the third consecutive game due to left hip soreness. It's the second consecutive back-to-back that he's sat out the second game. However, the Magic play much better on their home floor. Don't be tricked by Orlando (14-24) having one of the worst records in the Eastern Conference. Memphis has won its last two road games. Shooting and free-throw struggles remain, but the defensive intensity has overcome any offensive shortcomings.
