NBA Odds: Pacers-76ers prediction, pick and How to Watch (ClutchPoints)

The Indiana Pacers visit the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night. We continue our NBA odds series with a Pacers-76ers prediction and pick.

While Harden’s scoring has dipped from their previous matchup, he continues to be one of the best passers in the league. The guy on the receiving end of a lot of those assists is center Joel Embiid. The star center averages 33.5 PPG and 9.8 RPG while shooting 53.2% from the floor. They rank second in the NBA in points allowed (108.3 PPG) and have held opponents to the lowest three-point percentage in the league (33.4%). While Harden has missed a number of games, he figures to be competing with opposing point guard Tyrese Haliburton for the assists crown all season long. The Pacers covered 61% of their games while 51% of their games went under. While the Pacers will likely be able to keep up with the 76ers on offense, they’ll need to slow down opposing center Joel Embiid and control the glass if they want to cover. Turner’s ability to slow down Embiid will likely be a huge factor in the spread tonight and is something to consider before making a Pacers-76ers prediction. The 76ers covered 60% of their games while 56% of their games went over. The talented playmaker will likely play a huge role in a potential Indiana cover tonight as the team’s floor general. Haliburton finds himself in the midst of a breakout year. The Pacers find themselves as one of the league’s hottest teams at the moment as they’ve won four straight games.

James Harden, 76ers Defeat Pacers in Overtime Thriller (Sports Illustrated)

The 76ers put the Pacers away with an overtime victory on Wednesday.

Harden took a foul with 28 seconds left, allowing the Sixers another opportunity to get the game out of reach, but two misses by Harden gave the Pacers one final shot to gain a late lead. Down two points, the Sixers got out in front for the first time during the free period with a De’Anthony Melton three-ball. However, a missed tip-in by Harrell gave the Pacers an opportunity to climb back within one point with a little under a minute left. Then down four points during a Philadelphia timeout, the Pacers came back into the game with smooth ball movement, which led to a three to get the deficit down to one point with a little over four minutes to go. Indiana started to pull away a bit in the fourth quarter, teasing a possible completed comeback, but the Sixers wouldn’t allow it happen. With a double-digit lead going into the fourth quarter, the Pacers and the Sixers traded shots, but Indiana’s deficit made it difficult for them to leave Philadelphia with a victory unless they started getting stops on the defensive end. Coming out for the second half, the Sixers continued to get a strong outing from Harden. Not only did the Sixers take care of the ball coming out of the half, turning it over just one time in the third quarter, but they continued to knock down shots at a high percentage. [Montrezl Harrell](https://www.si.com/search?query=montrezl+harrell) gave the Sixers a notable boost in the first half. Back in October, when the Sixers and the Pacers battled it out, both teams entered the matchup 0-3. The Sixers had an injury scare late in the first quarter, as the veteran forward PJ Tucker was grabbing at his leg and slow to get up. On Wednesday, the Sixers returned to the court for their second-straight home game.

We’ve got to learn from some of the things that happened and we’ve got to build on some of the good things, especially down the stretch.” Without Embiid, the Sixers needed more production off the bench — and got it, notably from backup center Harrell. Improved to 15-1 after leading at halftime. He was named Eastern Conference player of the month for December. “We never should have been in overtime. He’ll be back very soon.” Embiid hurt his foot in Monday’s win against New Orleans and was ruled out hours before tipoff against Indiana. “You can see it. Indiana Pacers fall in overtime to Philadelphia 76ers — three ... (Sports Illustrated)

The Indiana Pacers played in their first overtime game of the season on Wednesday night and ultimately lost to the Philadelphia 76ers.

While other position groups had off nights, the Pacers centers were good in Philadelphia. The Pacers just needed to take care of the ball late to win, but they failed that task. Haliburton, Bennedict Mathurin, and Buddy Hield were trying to push into the paint but to no avail. They'll be better in the future. Myles Turner and Jalen Smith would both have more chances to be effective. Indiana had the ball and a four-point lead with under 40 seconds to go. They are 12th in the league in turnover rate during clutch games, so normally this hasn't been an issue for the Pacers. The Pacers' clutch brilliance finally came to an end. They got neither, and the 76ers ended up evening up the score. There were a couple of errors that we made that we'll learn from," Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said after the game. The Indiana Pacers have been great in the clutch in recent games. Indiana was down 13 early in the fourth quarter, but they picked up their defensive intensity and found an offensive rhythm behind Bennedict Mathurin and Buddy Hield.
